Why are women portrayed as an angry, hysterical, mentally ill creatures in AAA games this gen?

In old games we had female characters fighting zombies, monsters and armed men, and they were cool, strong and confident. they also showed emotions like fear, anger and sadness but they wasn't hysterical or made weird ugly faces to show that they are mentally unstable, is this a new trend i'm unaware of?

Pretty sure that lady from state of decay 3 was not mentally ill but imitating the sound of the new apex predators. The deer that killed the wolf later does the same scream.

Senua went through hell because she was not able to accept the loss of her man while suffering from her father's abuse. It was literally a game about mental illness. She was not sick because she was a woman; she was the sick protagonist.

Same for Ellie, she's a broken human; that's what that game is about.

No Idea about the gears of war chick, gears sucks :<

Western developers portrayal of women are entirely different from Japanese developers. I guess Western developers see a crazy, angry, mentally ill female as more realistic or relatable? It could also be Western developers want their females to appear as unattractive as possible so they make them mentally deranged or aggressive to go with the more grounded aesthetics? Who would most gamers fall in love with more? Tifa with her girl-next-door attitude or Senua with her insanity?

Also, maybe to reflect realism and accuracy in today’s crazy society?

Hmm interesting point.

Kinda reminds me of how blacks are portrayed in films and I noticed it on my own, way before any SJW shit even became trendy.

Notice how "passionate", angry, and screamy they like to portray blacks in movies sometimes?

I know what they're doing, and I don't like it.

I liked Kassandra from AC Odyssey and Aloy from H:ZD (although she was too wooden at times).

To me it's all parts forcibly shoehorning as well as the video game industry not writing women characters very well in general (probably because the writers aren't great to begin with).

I don't think anyone minds diversity done well and integrated logically but I'm a little tired of having my expectations subverted for the sake of it.

Because being feminine is "cisnormative and binary" but also a girl that's basically a dude is a Ms. Pac-Man trope and that's bad. But also you can't have them suffer hardships because it's violence towards women but you can't portray them as pure and perfect because it's appealing to the "male gaze".

I don't know man. Pick your poison. Just typing that down made my head explode.

New realistic trend with more powerful consoles, i guess, so the developers like their characters to show more emotion.

Yeah

These ones where they are screaming like maniacs are just odd. I cannot ever remember a male character doing it and its just odd. MS seem particularly fond of this

Im guessing its because women don't have personalities besides hot or crazy
