Yea lots of games look better on a high-end PC. If you've never had the pleasure, that's too bad.

Ouch, if this poll transforms into actual sales...

It won't. It is probably representative of how GAF feels at the moment, but GAF members aren't the same as your average consumer, and even GAF's opinion can shift pretty radically within the space of a few months. We're a fickle bunch.

Wow what happened to all the X-box fans? Wasnt the last poll closer to 50/50? Surely Halo couldn't of changed things that much.
I guess the pendulum could swing a lot from here to launch again.

The pattern I've noticed is for PS5 to fill up quickly, but Xbox votes to come in later. I'm not sure why that is. But I expect that, over the next week or so, the Xbox votes will increase. I don't think we'll have a solid read on the poll until we're closer to around 600 votes.

Previous ratios usually hovered around 2 to 1 (PS>Xbox). Current ratio is 4.3 to 1, which is way out of whack. I assume it's because of people feeling underwhelmed over the recent Xbox reveal.

I am floored with how lopsided these poll results are. I’m a ps5 guy but I would have expected more support for Xbox.

The obvious thing is that this poll is being taken two days after the MS reveal, and a lot of people are expressing disappointment. A poll taken right after the Cerny reveal had a lot of people fleeing from PS5, too, because of disappointment. But then, a month later, things were back to baseline (2 to 1 ratio in favor of PS). Granted, the swing wasn't as large as you see here.

But I think this could just be a temporary effect.

Still just PS5 for me.I tuned in to the Xbox show but nothing got me excited.
To be fair it would be almost impossible for Xbox to change my gaming habits at this point,I've been PlayStation only for the last two gens,I love PlayStation exclusives and they have all the big third party games I enjoy.

PS4 outsold Xbox One more than two to one. TLOU2 sold four million copies in three days, Ghost Of Tsushima sold 2.4 million in three days.

No reason to be floored.

Hold onto your panties
I stopped buying new consoles after the 7th gen (for myself). My wife has always been more of a gamer and bought her Switch and PS4. If she wants one...I'll buy.

I don't know now. I was excited, then deflated, then excited to preorder because I like new consoles, then deflated again. I'll wait for the prices.

How many times are we seing thread like this?

This is the 4th or 5th?

Too many similar thread
We'll see another one after the prices are revealed.

2 PS5's.... one disc and one digital for the boy.

If Xbox had a kick ass perfect dark reboot and Banjo, I might have considered but their show was terrible IMO.
I'd be afraid to buy into their hardware cause they could just stop supporting console gaming at any time and their first party stuff has been so bad.... all they showed after Halo's poor showing was CGI stuff years out..... and that is off the back of a poor 7 years of 1st party output.

I'll sort a rig out for myself next year with a 3000 series card for anything I can't get on PS5 / Switch.

Definitely PS5

I'll upgrade my PC mid gen when PC performance wins start considerably outstripping console in order to play Xbox "exclusives"

I'll be buying a PS5 but probably not in the next few years. I'll wait for a slim version + 3 free games at $250 or less.
I still have a ton of ps4 games to go through once I'm done with my exams.

The PS4 Pro has been out for 3 years now. Can you get it + 3 games for $250 or less right now? How about just the base PS4 + 3 games? I don't think so.

I have a powerful PC if I needed anything not available on PS5. It's a tradition since I bought PS1 to go to the next one, total dominance.

So PS5, then PS6.

Bo. Will you be picking up the PS5 at launch? I don't remember whether you had said you would or wait a few months to see if there aren't any major hardware issues before picking one up.

XSX for everything + gamepass

PS5 for exclusives.

Yep.

And dang at the poll. Figures with all the hate MS gets on here. It's no different than sports fans I guess. Card fans shit on Cubs fans and vice versa. It's nice to be in the middle know that both consoles will have great games and I will need both as a gamer first. The best way to be.

XSX easily. Sony hasn’t given me a reason to buy a PS5. Here’s what I mean:

- Less powerful on paper than XSX so multiplat games (the majority of what I play) won’t perform as well on PS5.

- Unknown backwards compatibility. We know that PS4 games will be playable but at launch we have no idea of which games, how they’ll perform or how quickly they’ll increase the compatibility lists. And with no legacy game support like on Xbox (although PS4 plays more PS2 games than X1 plays Xbox, but more games will be added)

- Unknowns on expandable storage. When will I be able to buy an M.2 drive that will work? Will I just have to hope that a given driver will work? Will Sony have a list online? Will they update that list? Will different SSD performance speeds affect game performance to a notable degree?

- What is Sony’s policy on cross generation games/current gen games getting next gen ports? Will everything be as seamless as Xbox’s smart delivery? Will the eventual PS5 ports of TLOU2 and GoT be free if I own the PS4 versions?

- Will Sony have any sort of answer to Xbox game pass in terms of overall value and quality? PSNow exists sure, but always seems like an afterthought that Sony doesn’t want to invest into

- As more of Sony’s first party games come to PC (Death Stranding and HZD undoubtedly being the start of a trend), will there be any specific policy on games coming to PC? If their games do come to PC say a year or two later, will there be any sort of cross save or cross buy like on Xbox? Will there be any reason to own a PS5 if all their games come natively to PC?

Both. If gamepass really has alot of games day and date next-gen, I'll use the Series X for 3rd party games via gamepass (assuming they run better than PS5), and the PS5 for the exclusive content and what not.

PS5 only

Like majority of people on earth, Reasons:

Better games.
Better controller.
Better UI.
VR.

I can understand getting Switch + PS5 combos but XSX and PS5 is overlapping too much I see no need for Xbox at all, if there is an Xbox game that I'm dying to get I will get it on PC. Also Microsoft 1st party output is sub-par and judging by their recent Halo reveal (their flagship and AAAA title) this trend is likely to continue.

Day one, indeed. Never had any issues except with PS1 due to piracy first. PS1 wasn't at launch because here they were sold at $2600 USD (1000 OMR) in 1995, then got lower to 600 OMR by 1996 ($1560) then bought it in 1997 for like 350 OMR as I remember ($910). Most people here are used to those previous ludacris pricing of the gray market, and they're laughing at anyone suggesting that PS5 will be sold at around 200 OMR ($520).

Official launch PS4 was $470 and disappeared in few hours, many were shocked as few days or weeks before many were waiting in waiting list and paid in advance 450 OMR ($1170) which are US market versions from the gray market. I barely waited for the official release nearly jumped with others for that insane price.

I just hope that more games support Arabic subtitles (some have full Arabic translation like Uncharted 4, Tomb Raider, The Division 2) as many around here can't understand shit so they tend to play FIFA, BF, COD mostly or GTA5 online and such things that are straight forward. Ubisoft has a branch in Abu Dhabi, UAE that helps with translations/subtitles. It's hard for me to convince my friends about a game that they don't understand what's happening in it. :lollipop_tears_of_joy:

Both. XSX first (as I don't have any Xbox currently) and PS5 when a title of my interest appears.

XSX - multi-platform games, and select BC games
PS5 - select 1st party games and niche Japanese games that are only available for PS5.

As of now, PS5 doesn't have much, so I will be holding onto my PS4 Pro. XSX - I'm getting it for BC games at this point, as I want Ninja Gaiden Black and Ninja Gaiden 2 running full 4k 60fps, as well as I want to revisit Panzer Dragoon Orta, Metal Gear Solid HD collecdtion, etc.

Xbox fans tend to vote later than PS fans in these polls. It's a pattern. I think it's because Xbox fans aren't as active on the forum -- maybe now especially. I expect they'll filter in late and swing the poll back to a more reasonable ratio (in the 2 to 1 ballpark). We'll see.

I think I'm at the point of going with a PS5 if TLoU2 multiplayer drops soon after launch.

Otherwise, I'll go with the Series X.

Microsoft has come a looooong way for me.

I have an OG PS4 and an Xbox One X. According to MS, I don't actually need to buy an Xbox Series X for now. I absolutely want an upgrade for my PS4, though, and I'm obviously not buying a Pro mere months before the PS5 launches. So, I'll go PS5 for now (so I voted that way) and pick up the XSX a year later or so. Depends on if they start coming out with games that are only on XSX or not, and if they're as appealing as the PS lineup has been. Considering MS is pushing this whole cross-generational business, it's on them that I'm not that interested in an XSX. If I still didn't have a One of any flavor, I'd maybe consider getting one sooner, but for now? It's at least a year out.

PS5. Was going to get both but after the Xbox showcase I'll just keep my One X and in the future just upgrade my PC for Fable and every other MS first party title. If it's good enough for Cavill, good enuff for me.

If this is one of your key points, why are you buying an XSX when all games Microsoft releases are on PC?

Well I pretty much spelled out all the reasons why I am buying an XSX over a PS5 in that post. While my main platform is PC, I still have an Xbox One, an Xbox 360, a PS3 and a PS2 from before I switched over (used to have a PS4, but it was a really shitty system and sounded like a damn jet engine no matter how many times I cleaned it, but I still have the games for it) to PC, and I enjoy playing games on those systems relatively often (and would even buy new games for them pretty often before everything closed) and I also have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. When I play Halo MCC, I am happy that my progress picks up between my systems seamlessly, same with Gears 5, FF9, FH4 and a few other games, and as XSX exclusives begin rolling out more (especially with RPGs) with cross save/cross buy between PC and Xbox, it will be even better for me to be able to easily play on my PC at my desk or on my Xbox on my couch. The Xbox Series X is set to be a great extension of my PC setup, and with GPU it almost feels like a steal to not have some extra console games as well (because some games feel better on controller). I wouldn't get any of that with a PS5 unless they had cross save, cross buy or a competitor to Game Pass in terms of content.

Additionally, I find it pretty damn radical that I can play all of my Xbox One games with the added bonus of HDR, various games with 4k (either through 1X enhancements or through Xbox back compat teams enhancing them) as well as many of my 360 games also in HDR and some with 4k (although my favorite 360 game that isn't on PC, Nier, isn't even backwards compatible yet, but I have hopes) and with the PS5 there is no guarantee that I will be able to play all of my PS4 games and certainly not with any enhancements like 4k or HDR unless the developers specifically patch that support in which is unlikely if they never patched for the PS4 Pro.

The reality is that for me playing 8-12 exclusive games (plus another 9 I think, counting the PS4 exclusives assuming they are all playable within a year of launch) on PS5 with a controller that doesn't look as comfortable as the Xbox controller is not worth it to me over the advantages I would get by just buying a Series X instead

You know what? That's a good point. There are games coming to PC that I would like to play in ultra ridiculous quality, so I may just skip the XSX entirely and finally--FINALLY--get a real-deal gaming PC going. I haven't built a PC since ... shit, 2001? And even that thing was pure budget, with an AMD K-something, and a mid-range video card. Could barely handle Halo when it launched on PC (not that that was by any stretch a good port).

Bring on the raytracing and give me a VR/HOTAS setup for Star Citizen 🤣

Both eventually.. but I like what Xbox has more at the start so I'll probably start off with XSX then PS5 sometime the next year with a nice bundle.

Xbox for me.
Upgrade pc for ssj ssd, new psu and gpu is bonkers.

I'm sure ps5 will be good but games like resident evil 8 run sub 30fps.
I'd much rather it be higher.

I still need to see prices before really thinking about how to proceed. MS has the financial capacity to completely fuck Sony on pricing, because I know Sony doesn't want to launch for any less than $599 and are likely more confident after the latest MS shitshow. I'm also waiting to see how the next gen Nivida cards shape up and what the PC market looks like at the end of the year. Regardless. it'll likely be a PS5 initially since MS support in the SEA region is pretty bad.

I was going to buy a series X at launch, but Microsoft in all their brilliance convinced me I dont need one.

So I won't.

I voted neither of them as we still don't know the price and every day that goes by means it higher then anyone wants.

The good version of either of these consoles is gonna be 600$ and unless gamestop gives me 400 for my one X, I am standing pat. I am convinced the real PS5 is also going to be 600$ and that's a no go from me.

Try 400, and with a 250$ series x trade in.

In the meantime I'll keep playing my switch wherever I want, and blackout on my one x as warzone is a chunk of garbage.
