Because the appeal / competition can only come from there for now imo

Either everything is coming in hot, or they want MS to go first. No matter what I'm tired of this Mexican Standoff. The consoles are approx. 3 months away.

Prices sound in line with what a lot of us were thinking they'd be. A $50 differential between the two models would've done no favors for the Digital Edition and likely drove down demand for it, leading to a scenario where there's too little of the disc version to go around.

I'm curious where MS prices the Series systems. Still thinking $250/$450 or $250/$500 will be where they settle. The former if they want to be more aggressive with Sony, the latter if they don't want to take too big a loss on Series Xs sold.

They could do 350.... with digital sales it will balance out over the first year and then the price of components will come down.

They know it's time to put the boot on the neck of Xbox.

Just two games sold on the DE and Sony is good. Especially their singleplayer games are resold quickly many times. Not with the DE.

They might be able to on the DE but I don't think they will on the disk version.... that would still be 450 to 500.
I think they will limit DE production to be 33% of total production at first to limit any losses and knowing most early adopters will pay whatever....

i would have disagreed before last numbers and the ~75% of sales being digital.
(i am cry though because the path toward full digital is strengtening too quickly for my tastes and i will never buy digital on a close platform)

With the American and European courts looking into Apple store and Amazon monopoly etc.... PlayStation and Nintendo would be smart to continue to offer physical options and support stores because they will be brought to court otherwise and be forced to let other sellers on their platform. Which would not be good.

The disc version is going to sale way more regardless of price.

How certain are we about that these consoles even release this year?
Panic doom and gloom msm is in full throttle covid mode pedling for the second shut down and with elections just around the corner......there is just too much negativity and chaos.

I highly doubt there will be a release this year.

With next gen and Jim Ryan downplaying having the lowest price and Phil saying they won't be the most expensive, MS will probably take a loss a $399 because they want people in the ecosystem and GamePass subs are more important to them than any sort of console loss at launch; especially since in the digital age when game attach ratios at retail are worthless.

Meaning we'll probably see:

PS5 Disc: $499
XSX: $399
PS5 DE: $399
Lockhart: $299

Did xbox give profits or just revenue? Also MS include a lot more under their xbox financials then playstation and they always have to try sugar coat the numbers. They are in survival mode and don't want transparent xbox financial reports that would lead to more bad pr.

I won't be surprised by a 100 difference if it happens. They will probably factor in drive cost and increased revenue from digital only IMO.

There is no value in going digital only, like zero, especially if you're from a poor country.

It was revenue, and no they are not in "survival mode".... Honestly, calm yourself down and think logically. They probably don't show numbers anymore because people like you go full on conspiracy mode. "Xbox is dead", meanwhile they are literally building new consoles and preparing for a 4th generation :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Xbox is doing fine as reported millions of times and 4 consoles later. It has the full backing of the MS ceo, they just bought 7 fucking game studios and said they are willing to buy MORE. I think you're the one in survival mode trying your hardest to take shots at a plastic box and a company you literally have ZERO stake in.

It's just weird man.

They only give revenue and not profits because profits are not good and haven't been the entire gen. Stop citing revenue numbers like it means they are doing awesome. If their hardware sales lose even more ground to Sony and Ninty this gen they've a major major uphill battle on their hands.

With the rumored BOMs I don't see 399$ happening for either disk based console.

Honestly its a bit of a piss take asking $100 more for a disc drive.. unless it has ps 1-3 disc BC.

I'm all digital and ive got a stand alone 4k player so if its that much difference I'd rather put it towards more memory.

Sony wants you to get the digital version so you can't buy used discs and shit.

But I don't care because I'm already balls deep digitally. I don't own a single PS4 disc.

I'm exactly the same i just hoped for disc based legacy BC originally and also to retire the dedicated player.

All that extra money towards more memory is very tempting especially as ideally I'd want 2tb extra.

Actually it's the other way around - subtracting 100$ for a 20-25$ worth disc drive, but that's exactly the point, to make you look at the disc-based model like an unattractive value and opt for the discless version instead, which will be sooo much profitable for them and all the 3rd party publishers. But if you are already fully into digital distribution, then yeah, you can save yourself 100$ or get an extra game or two along with the console. It's just yet another proof that the more options the better.

See I'm not sure of that long term. The ps6 might be digitial only if digital sku adoption is high and once that happens say goodbye to reasonable prices.

I mean there will still be some things keeping the prices reasonable like X box competition and general disposable income but the consumer will have lost power make no mistake about it 😊.
