Saturn Bomberman; the best party game ever. But what are your recommendations?

I still don’t think I’ve found a more satisfying multiplayer party experience than getting ten people in a room with two multi taps, a literal plastic tub I store in my closet filled with Saturn controllers and a bunch of drinks and playing some ten person Saturn Bomberman. Especially now that giant TVs are a thing and the massive play field and small Bomberman (and women lol) can now be seen more easily!

it’s just that good. Granted it’s rare I can find 8 other people that want to play some Bomberman with my wife and I but when it happens everyone has an absolute blast. Plus I get ten original Saturn controllers to pick from when they aren’t in use so...win win!

If you haven’t seen / heard the story of the Hudson Hi-Ten Bomberman prototype game...it’s basically the pre-cursor to Saturn Bomberman. Had HD resolution and ten person gaming in 1993 on a custom NEC board which was the basis for the PC-FX. Guess the game has been found by collectors but no release as of yet (maybe never? Who knows...)

but if you ever want to have a giant gaming party (after the pandemic. Be safe out there) and need an awesome game...this is it! Def not cheap to assemble the plethora of controllers and multi taps you need but you can never really have enough Saturn controllers can you?

curious what everyone else’s fav party games are?

It's worth it if you have a large enough group and if you love Bomberman.

However, Super Bomberman R also has 8-player and more maps / characters, so for most people that might be the way to go. I'm glad I have it on Saturn + the multitaps.

R was a ton of fun but I still prefer the 2D overhead style vs the isometric like 3D of R. I mean for the single player at least.

but yes R is infinitely easier to manage vs Saturn Bomberman controller and connection wise. Ten Saturn controllers all plugged in at once is a rats nest mess of cables

I had the chance to play it once with 5 more people at a classic gaming expo and it was a blast. I have a Saturn but I only have two controllers and I don't have this game unfortunately.

So awesome.

I had a blast with bomberman, pun intended. I'm not sure if this is considered a "party game" but my friends and I had a blast with the Gauntlet series, especially Legends for the N64

I played this, but I prefer Bomberman 64. Also, the single-player and the OST is sweet as hell

Gauntlet and Diablo!

Wii definitely had some great party games, Mario Party in particular.

I know there aren’t a ton of sports gamers out here, but NBA Jam kept my friends and I busy for hours when that came to Genesis and SNES.

Powerstone was also one we played a lot! Obligatory nod to old school Halo and Goldeneye 4 player

OG Smash Bros and Rush 2049 were my crew's jam back in the day. Oh yes and of course Goldeneye.

The best bomberman ever!
Solid story mode and the best multiplayer game I’ve ever played to.
I remember drunk parties when played this gem with friends.
Sometimes big drama happened, it was war...

Never found something this good and easy to access.

playing SF Rush 2 on the N64 and trying to collect all the damn Mtn Dew cans was all I did with my best friend one summer. I don’t think we ever did get them all
