[Official Playstation blog] We invite PC players to join us when Horizon Frobidden West comes for Playstation 5

BUT... BUT SONY IS RELEASING ALL THEIR GAMES ON PC... THEY'VE SEEN MS IS DOING GOOD... LMAO, IMAGINE BUYING A PS5.

At least the port is selling good, so it won't be the last.

Yea that’s not going to happen. Sony need to learn that PC players are not remotely interested in console games and giving them a good game that they can’t brag about destroying its console counterpart is not helping their cause.
Uhhhh maybe some of them that are fanboys but I think most PC gamers probably are open to gaming anywhere if it's appealing to them.

If PC players really wanted to dive into Horizon, they wouldn't have waited years for it to come out on PC. I wouldn't mind waiting patiently for the sequel either. Consoles should have died with the current gen. Just delaying the inevitable.

It's a nice idea but I think Sony will learn that it doesn't really happen. PC gamers generally don't buy consoles for one or a handful of games, this is why MCC is the first introduction to games like Halo 3 and Reach for a lot of people. Rather I think Sony will learn the lesson that MS did, which is that PC gaming is a huge audience with a huge potential revenue stream and will work to maximize that more quickly than they planned.

I have no clue of programming but wouldn't porting be a lot more difficult on next-gen? What if Guerilla fully utilizes all the custom hardware that is not on PC? How would they port it over? By downgrading? :p
Mm nah, I think if they optimize something at that level, they do it creating a module for that. Then, for PC you just use another module.

It's the first thing that comes to my mind, I'm sure there're better approaches.

lol these people dont even want to use the Epic store to buy video games, and Sony thinks they will buy a $500 console to play their exclusives. how delusional are they?

the hardcore PC gamer is never going to buy consoles. Console players will buy PCs sure, but these are the players Sony should be focused on keeping. And these ports will encourage those console players to invest in PC instead of the PS5.

What a weird thing to say. I consider myself a hardcore PC gamer, yet have a PS4 Pro and will buy the PS5. I also own a Switch for that matter.

The joke on top is hardcore PC gamers who love to shit on consoles believing that Sony was aiming for them.

You are talking about a market that consists of what? 10 million people tops?

Those don’t matter. It’s the other 90 million that do.

Having a third party do the port is genius. It means PlayStation is still the best place to play the game and Sony get free advertising for the sequel

Though, I've never been able to understand why people who will pay thousands for one component in a PC, become skint as fuck when it comes to shelling out a few hundred quid to buy a console🤔🤷‍♂️

What time is it?
Why would I buy a ps5 to play that new horizon when this old horizon already looks better on PC?

They aren't skint mate, they just aren't interested in consoles. If those games come to PC then of course..considering the port is of decent quality ;)

Lol at your first sentence tho

results of experiment can lead to lot of changes.
but this is not what they seem to plan for now.

Sony will most probably bring many of their games to PC, after the vow factor has died down. Horizon looks mediocre in 2020, and that includes the PC version. I expect ps5 games to start dropping on PC about 4 years down the line.

Sony making huge sales with DS and Horizon on PC has to indicate to them that there is a huge money maker there but seems their strategy is to give people a "taste" to make them buy a PS5, when they realise PC players just wont do that they will release on PC.

It's genius from a business POV. The Ps5 will run OG horizon as good as, or nearly as good as, a PC, graphics wise. Making the Ps5 the proper place to play Horizon. Even better than PC.

It makes sense because MS are saying "buy an XSX or pc we don't care" Sony are saying "buy a PS4/5 for the best place to play the game, second best place is PC". Sony aren't competing with PC then, it's a nice addition.

Like tother gen when people were wii60 or PSwii owners.

People really think Sony cares for the $35 per sale to really invest that much on a port?....when not even Valve releases blockbuster exclusives for PC gamers anymore.... please.

What Sony wants is for PC players to ditch Steam.... or at the very least buy the PS5. They certainly don't want to fatten Gabe's pocket and solidify his hold on users of that ecosystem. It's business.

It was an appetizer and bait... which imo should've never happened. It has the opposite effect. People create expectations and wait.... and wait. They've been waiting for Bloodborne for 6 years ever since Dark Souls went to PC. Make them wait 6 more until they get an emulator going or create your own delivery platform on PC that includes 3rd party software. No other way to break Steam.

Bold strategy. Toss them a lukewarm port and tell them better things are available on their next console

That's a silly line of reasoning. Sony owns the ecosystem of Playstation, for each playstation that they sell, they sell an average of 9 games, plus DLC and microtransactions, that's a shitload of money. They aren't interested in getting a few dollars from PC gamers, they want them on PS5.

That's where you lost me. No one is upgrading to PC after finding out their console of choice "lost "an exclusive. MCC taught us that

Truly clueless approach. Hardcore pc gamers value the flexibility of the platform as much as the games if not more.
We would have gotten an used ps4 with some dirt cheap games if not used (giving no money to Sony) if this was only about the games.

I always though this strategy could be so that Sony pushes the Rockstar double dipping approach. Do you want to play the game now? Get a console. Do you want to re play the game with better graphics in a year or more? Get it on PC down the line at full price.

While Sony games aren't as big as rockstar's they have an interesting portfolio of games where they could use this approach. Besides remember that the upcoming generation has BC so prior ps4 owners won't rebuy the games again. Which is the only audience that could buy games like last guardian, gravity rush, bloodborne and more? The pc only audience.

Again, bad port for whom? Folks with 1.5k/2k rigs at home? Worthless, those people barely send any money on games.

Most people on PC will play this on a 1060 and let the game run at 1080p in default settings with barely a care in the world on whether it’s 60 fps or not.

Yeah it was pretty clear to me that the plan is to bait PC players into buying PS5 for the exclusive sequels. Anyone thinking that this port is a sign that Sony will be like microsoft and release PC ports at the same time as the console versions will be very dissapointed in the future.

Are you saying they purposely botched the port? I actually thought you were joking haha

Again, Sony doesn't care about getting a few dollars off of PC gamers. They want to expand the PS ecosystem, where they get a cut out of every single sale, plus every mtx and dlc sold. It'd be incredibly silly of them to actually bring all of their IP to PC, the only reason they did this is because it's tough to expand the console player base and they want even more growth, so they tried this.

I'm going to say this slowly and clearly: Sony will be able to count on one hand the number of PC players that will play this port, and as a direct result, purchase a PS5.

They need to knock Microsoft out cold first before worrying about Steam and Nintendo. They've been pre-occupied with MS since the failure of the PS3 and they're still hanging around after the beating of this gen. Once Microsoft is down and out... only then should they focus on PC, seriously - not this stupid ploy. And the only way to truly compete on that space is to open a store to rival Steam like Epic. Death by a thousand cuts. No two ways about it.

Lol MS is already down and out. When have they released a game that competes with what Sony has released even in the past 5 months....and then we will talk about the rest of the generation.

? Who are most people to you? That example sounds extremely anecdotal. I'm one of the few in my gang that does prefer consoles. PC gamers are like car enthusiast, some may only have a 5700, most of my buddies have a 2080i, all of them...all of them want to squeeze every bell and whistles out of their games. You don't drop 2k on a gaming rig to show off on forums, then run games at medium setting when no one is around to impress

I don't think they are targetting the e-peen, vroom vroom PC master race "I game on a racing chair, look at my RGB!" demographic. They probably want the more open minded PC gamers who'd like to get Sony's amazing first party games.

Who knows if it is a mistake, but that was their intention.

i can tell you that if launching this game on pc was my first impression about a sony software ....(already crashed 5 time at long shader compilation) the effect would not be the one sony is hoping for.

It would be quite risky for Sony to open a store on PC, as the user base is married to Steam at this point and extremely resistant to any other icon on their desktops, and they'd devalue by a lot their console business in the process (Oh, hi Microsoft).

But that’s what I’m saying, you just described a small part of the pc market. The ones who are like car enthusiasts. There’s no impressing these people with a console, there’s no convincing them. And again they are a small part of the PC market.

There’s almost no money to be made from them. But the majority of the PC market who is ridding 1060s and the likes? Maybe they upgrade to a PS5.

Pretty nasty port. Microstutters and wierd visual artifacts. Though benchmark shows 102 average framerate on my machine. Sony is yet to learn how to go beyond 30 fps it seems.

I'm gonna wait for patches before jumping in.

That always seemed to be the plan, it became even clearer when they announced that Horizon 2 would be one of the earlier Ps5 games.

Doesn't mean 2 will never come to PC. But I imagine they are betting on some people wanting to play 2 sooner instead of waiting for it possibly come to PC several years down the line.

Why would I buy a ps5 to play that new horizon when this old horizon already looks better on PC?

Because crazy as it sounds there's more to games than visuals.
Not to mention that aside from it running at 30fps I seriously doubt horizon 1 on PC will look better than 2 on Ps5
