I think the probability for a price point of AT LEAST 600 is VERY HIGH.
I am expecting it to be between 599 and 699 now.

Going for more then 599$ would be a suicide for both companies. So for me, 599$ is just maximum amount of money Microsoft can ask from customers, same for Sony.

But i still think they will match price of competitor.

I don't believe it would be suicidal.

wtf are you trying to say. my head hurts trying to read that.
Dude I thought maybe my reading comprehension needs work haha.

I think there is some merit to people talking about Sony and M$ waiting for the other to reveal price then undercut. For that reason, i don't think it will be $599. $499 is probable i think.

yup i think they waiting to see who goes first then the other will undercut... as i said above (see below)

i think they'd hope to sell it at $599 but could cut it down to $499-549 depending on how much the PS5 costs.

If 599$, it's DOA, unless Sony prices itself at 599 / 499 for DE.

$599 has been my guess for a while, hence the need for the XSS, which I expect them to price very aggressively low.

Prediction:

XSS: $299-$399
PS5 Digital: $399
PS5 Disc: $499
XSX: $599

This would be the death of the Xbox brand.

and that's why it won't happen.

XSX will be cheaper than PS5. that's my gut feeling.

XSS: $300-350
XSX Digital (if we get one) - $400-450
XSX: $500-550
PS5 Digital: $450
PS5 Disc: $550

can't see PS5 being $600 but XSX could. MS won't want Xbox to cost more than PS5 so will probably match PS5 or beat it by $50.

We shall see. I find it hard to believe they'd go 600, but MS usually commits Seppuku during their launch period.

I mean it's been circling the drain for a while.

It's also why I think they and sony are playing chicken with the price announcements, as well as keeping XSS under their hats.

If Sony comes out with a $599/$699 price tag for the PS5's, I think the XSS will never see the light of day and MS will instead eat the cost of undercutting Sony with a $549 XSX, or even just stick a year of Gamepass in at $599.

If the PS5's are as aggressively priced as I think they will be though, then the XSS is getting priced ridiculously low, just to have the news headlines.

I'm predicting
PS5/XSX $499
PS5 Digital $399
Series S $299

Nobody really knows what these things cost to make, people throw estimates around without knowing what kind of deals the companies have in place etc.

If the XSS exist, those consoles would be being assembled as we speak.

You can't throw away all that hardware simply because Sony has an X price tag.

If the XSS exists, then it's absolutely happening no matter what.

It won't be 599, 549 max.

They literally sell nothing if it's 599.

Edit: Sorry bad statement, they'll sell nothing either way.

there is a reason both consoles are launching with cheaper alternatives

also why neither want to come out with the price, cause the first one will get all the backlash lol

I'm predicting Microsoft and Sony have a terrible head-on crash in this game of chicken and we all get consoles for free. #2020.

We knew the die size since early this year, Hot Chips info gives you nothing new as far as pricing goes. These things don't cost based on their performance, but on the wafer price.

I just can't fathom the Xbox team 4/5 years ago having a meeting and saying: Yep so that is the target then, 12TF and $599. It would also surely mean a $399 Series S I would think which is arguably even more questionable.

And we know the story on the Sony side....

If either Sony or Microsoft touch $599 then they deserve the wrath coming their way or the public do if they accept it!

I think the $599 Xbox Series X talk is just more fear mongering from some people who are irrationally afraid of MS having the most powerful console and possibly a lower price than the competition.
or just people being realistic with the market prices on hardware and paying attention of past consoles price, microsoft its not a ong

xbox x was 500,they have a controller who cost almost 200,they aren well know for cheap hardware, and people are expecting top hardware for 300? good luck with that, anyone with common sense know why they are waiting to unveil the price, these things wont be cheap

“I would say a learning from the Xbox One generation is we will not be out of position on power or price,” says Phil Spencer, Microsoft’s Xbox and gaming chief, in an interview with The Verge. “If you remember the beginning of this generation we were a hundred dollars more expensive and yes, we were less powerful. And we started Project Scarlett with this leadership team in place with a goal of having market success.”

Phil has said publicly that he has MS's blessing to be aggressive on price. "Aggressive" in the context of being competitive. $599 USD doesn't seem ultra competitive to me - tho certainly an argument can be made you are getting a lot of performance for even that price.

I think they'll do $499 and value add in some game pass. $549 I think at most. Still, they need to be cheaper than Sony if they want to have any hope at making up ground on Sony -- I know I know, blah blah MS says they don't care about how many consoles they sell (the do, tho).

Everything they've said points to them being super aggressive on the price. $599 isn't aggressive. It's a fantasy by people who are terrified of this console for some bizarre reason as if their life worth is tied to the perception of a plastic box under their TV.

Compared to a pc with comparable specs, the Xbox Series X is still cheap. 2080 performance, good cpu, ssd, that would cost easily over 1000 dollars/euros. Best machine to multiplayer games.
