Was any additional information released from the MS presentation itself? Or just what was covered on the slides?
there was this blog post covering the event, a little extra info on top of slides plus some q&a at the end

Sony rarely is reactionary to fanboy nonsense. They gave an internal date when and where they will do their breakdown. It would be diff if we didn't know how Sony operates. When 9.0 TF was storming the internet, fsje yield issues Sony said nothing for months until they were reasy to divulge info. RDNA 2 has already been confirmed months ago but ppl want to hear and see what thy want based on bias.
one could say that their adoption of amd's variable clocks thingy was indeed a reaction to what ms did.
I mean, over the years we've seen how sony is able to have an answer in the most loud way and even in the next day, IF that is to their benefit. remember "how to share games" video?

About the technology already functional, I hope eye tracking and foveated rendering are included. Having them as base features in psvr2 would allow a great step in vr.

What hump?

Quick question. Does anyone remember Sony doing a hot chips like event with the PS4 or the PS4 Pro?

It could be that it's just something that they don't do not that they are hiding anything from us.

Why would Sony be hiding? Tht false narrative has been said every month for diff things on this forum and then Sony pulls out their dick and smacks naysayers in the face (excuse my language) tht narrative is old and played out, you been here long enough to know its just Sony waiting to do their Cerny breakdown on their terms.

wait what? are people really thinking sony is hiding something from us? WTF are people smoking now to say this shit?

You do know that it doesn't take much work to make a video like this?

Something like this could be easily created within a day.

Now going from fixed to variable clocks and incorporating a new controller and Smartshift is something that takes alot more time to do. Not to mention all the testing that needs to be done to make sure everything works correctly.

A good safe bet that they will get millions of views on whatever they show, however they show it. No question they are doing just fine. LOL

In the bigger scheme of things apparently that's not too bad for the content. Considering you can land at just about any airport anyway and it will be serviceable. Putting the only hand crafted big UK airport (Heathrow) behind the top end package is a bit shitty though.

Isnt it April to June? Surely they would refer to a calendar year with their Qs?
Usually in the gaming industry when you talk of quarters it's referring to fiscal quarters, and the fiscal year starts April 1st.

Of course I can't be sure of what they meant here, but it sounds strange to me to use a technical definition and give it another meaning? I think if they meant April-June they would have simply said "first half of 2021", while there is really no simpler way of saying "around or after the end of the summer, but before the holidays window".

At this point I seriously think they are mostly throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks. Think about it, they are leaving all doors open:
  1. Series X - top gamma, expensive home console
  2. Series S - mid-range, cheaper home console
  3. Game Pass - subscription-based access to a gaming library
  4. Project xCloud - cloud gaming for mobile devices
If one or more just fail, Microsoft can drop them in a couple years' time. If they do OK, they will just keep existing and indirectly benefit from the existence of the other ones. If they are a big moneymaker, they can be incentivized.

The fact Microsoft is pushing Game Pass so much in comparison to Series X makes me assume that they did their calculations and decided on what horse it's worth betting the most and which one can just exist and drag along. After all, Series X has direct and serious competition (PS5), Game Pass doesn't, so if people are actually buying it and they see good customer retain projections, why not go all-in and get the untapped market while it is such.

So, for Microsoft right now it's much more important to announce that a game is coming to Game Pass and that you can access it anywhere, rather than how good it will be on Series X. Hence current-gen and PC support, and why the last big event was literally the Game Pass showcase, while not a single second of footage was captured and promoted as coming from an XSX.
MS marketing must desperately need a shrink, just imagine to send both messages at the same time:

- we don't care on which hardware you play our games

- here is the most powerful console ever

it is quite safe to suppose that this work has already been done, right? I am talking about a hardware stripdown here and some hands-on testing.
and to be clear, for me its very important not so much to calculate the exact % of power difference.
for this I dont really care, I already know that xbox will be my everything-but-ps5-exclusives console.
its other things, like temperatures and noise, things that got me angry this gen and made me go through 4 sony consoles.

Any lists of current gen games that are confirmed to be getting patches?

I'm hoping for fallout 4 and Skyrim but I'm honestly not expecting them.

Would it be possible for a mod to do it though?

I believe that's one of the reasons why they went with variable clocks. So when your looking at a map screen the clocks can reduce and so will the fan speed. With the PS4 and PS4 Pro the fans were at maximum speed even in those situations. Not to mention the PS5 is supposed to have a different cooling system in it

As for the teardown Cerny said it's coming. You just have to be patient. It's not like they are just going to upload to YouTube the instant that Microsoft does their hot chips event.

Just relax it's coming.

Xbox boss on the physics of the PlayStation 5’s design

🤔

I think what he said is pretty decent, but why is he always talking about PS5? At the same time, Sony officials don't even mention xbox or competition in general most/all of the time and keep focus on their own. That's just free advertisement if they did talk about xbox, and they don't wanna do it as some markets and casuals don't even know what xbox is.

Again ppls bias and paradigm view dictates how they view things. What we do know is alot of fud about ps5 has been propogated and turned out false even though Sony was quiet. Tht is factual.

Some people still struggling with the fact that BOTH GPUs are Custom RDNA 2... That means that sometimes they will add more things and sometimes they will remove unnecessary things. How's that difficult to grasp? ffs

master cornholio, its not like microsoft opened their hand yesterday at hot chips. we have been shown how xbox is inside almost six months ago
we have been assured that its noise levels are at xbox x level since then too.
even recently phil spencer re-confirmed this, when he said that he got the final release console complete in final packaging etc, got it installed and indeed it is whisper-quiet like its predecessor.

and to be frank, I dont agree with you that the reason sony went to pushing the clockspeed is so as to be quiter when you watch a map.
imo they did so to counter microsoft's announced power levels.
and the fact that what must be a much smaller die is enclosed in what probably is the biggest case ever a console had, does not fill me with comfort either.
though I dont feel anxious like you think I am. not at all.
worst case scenario is that if sony does not provide what I want before launch, then I wont be pre-ordering, instead I'll wait until all the info I want is available.

Probably a lot to do with what questions are being asked. Xbox officials seem to get asked to contrast against PS quite a bit, which I guess is fair considering PS's position in the market. Might have been trying to squash some of the negativity towards PS from some of the loudest Xbots, those lousy fud spreaders. :messenger_winking_tongue:

And we are yet to see ray tracing on XSX. Oh wait, we haven't seen any gameplay on XSX to begin with, maybe the XSX software is too good to make games for? And yet we hear about 4K difficulties by devs on PS5.

That's called the "mirror" effect, reflecting your own problems on others. 🤷‍♂️
But but but, Minecraft RT demo at 1080p30 and GoW5...:messenger_crying:

And don't forget that SoD2 loading demonstration!!

minecraft was running at 60 though, not 30. DF said they noticed some slowdowns from that framerate. and that was six months ago
oh, and fully pathtraced. there is paramount difference between full pathtracing and raytracing of shadows or reflections on water.

I don't think we will see such a scenario, I mean, even MS knows how terrible offer the Series S would be next to PS5 DE at the same price point. But if Sony is indeed willing to take a 100$ hit for a 20$ BD, then so is MS, so subtracting 100$ from 299-349$ instead of 499-549$ would create unprecedented value in the eyes of an average consumer.
It's not just $20, there are other costs associated with the drive and bigger income from PS store exclusivity alleviating the blow.

Use your eyes, watch Austin's video. It drops below 30-20fps with the slightest movement with raytracing on. 60fps is probably with raytracing off.

Anybody loving the mind bending logic going around?

XSX vs PS5?

4K60 RT vs FAKE 4K(1440p) 30 FPS with lame RT

XSX vs XSS?

4k60 RT vs 1440p 60 fps RT.

I know, if you watch some of PS officials doing interviews, and they're extremely few (as it should be), when asked about xbox, they avoid mentioning it in the context:

Then don't buy a PS5 if you think the console is going to be broken.

I know I'm going to see the teardown and I payed attention to Cernys talks so I know noise and heat was a concern for them.

Do you really think such a big console is going to have an anemic cooling system like the PS4 and PS4 Pro?

I doubt it's going to be a RROD situation for Sony.

I think that's the FY for Sony (FY starting in April), I think in this case it would be April-June.
It's not just Sony, it's all gaming companies I'm aware of (go look at any yearly report).

I don't know what they meant here though. Somebody on Twitter should comment and ask for clarification on that part, if it hasn't already happened.

I said it weren't a game rather a sim earlier and the Xbox fanboys were up in arms. It's hilarious to see FS as part of the console war armoury when it aint even on console. It's a title for 60 yr old grandads and aeroplane nerds essentially (no offence) :messenger_beaming:
