My kid just finished Mega Man 11 (and I haven't done that yet)

It all started when my 6 years old kid and I were playing 20XX in local co-op. Heck maybe even earlier than that but anyways. We died a couple of times then we git gud and then we managed to beat the game. I told him that I was very proud of him to became that good in that game.

Then he went looking for more games like 20XX. The boy knew that I am a Mega Man fan and I had plenty of Mega Man games so he picked up my Switch and saw that I had a Mega Man 11 game I've purchased since its release date. I've told him that Mega Man games were difficult games to play but he wanted to play that anyways.

He started playing Mega Man 11 sitting side by side with me while I was working from home. He fell in love with the game. The bosses, the level designs. At first he was playing using a saved game which let him at Dr. Willy's stage door. I still haven't beat all those Willy stages back then and I got frustrated a bit and then started playing other games.

At first he was having a hard time getting past that Willy stage so he asked my help. I told him I couldn't because I was working at the moment so "git gud".

Then sometime later I've noticed that he had already got past that willy stage and now he was facing the 8 bosses before the last boss I guess. He asked me to help him out. I've told him that I couldn't because of the work but I've taught him about some bosses weakness (I don't know all of them because I'm more like a Mega Buster main when facing bosses). But yet he was on his own so basically "git gud".

Then in the next day I've realized that he was already battling against Dr. Willy and he asked me for help again. I said "Ok, Dr. Willy is the final boss so I will help you out". I've battled against Willy a couple of times but I lost all of them. My boy saw what went well and what went wrong with that boss battle. And then he went back playing Mega Man 11 again on his own. So "git gud".

Then in the next day he started over playing Mega Man 11 from the beginning because he said he wanted to defeat all the bosses in their respective stages. It was an uphill battle to him but I've told him he was on his own because I was working at the time. So "git gud" again. Except for maybe Bounce Man and Torch Man which I've taught him the ropes for each stage.

And finally in the next day he was already knocking at the Dr. Willy's door again. After 1 hour I guess he just told me "Dad, I've beaten the final boss". I went to check what was going on in the Switch's screen and I saw a Dr. Willy kind of begging for his life so I was like "wait what? Did he really finish the game? Attaboy."

I've shouted "Congrats son, you've made it. Dad was not even able to finish the game but you did. Congrats. That was one of hell of a game". He was all smiles as I was congratulating him. The first classic Mega Man game I've ever beaten was Mega Man VII and it took like years to accomplish that.

So that's a piece of my story I wanted to share with you guys which just happened last week. Every day at night after he's done with his chores my boy and I still play 20XX together but now he's both a 20XX fan and also a Mega Man fan.

The kid's got more patience than me, I must have watched too many speed runs because I can't play the game slowly like you're supposed to when you're learning it. Never been good at them because of that.

never finished the game. but i'm still the king of fighting games at home.

until the kid starts liking that kind of games too. :messenger_sad_relieved:
Sure, makes you feel like a big man huh? Throwing out 50/50's, oki's, doing strings on those helpless children! All the while calling them flowchart scrubs. You make me sick.

I can cruise through the first 6 Mega Man games—especially the first and second—but I’ve always found 7-11 fairly impenetrable. I did beat 11 on easy mode, but I’ve never managed much in any higher difficulties, I think I’ve just lost patience.

Mega Man games were pretty tough, though I did beat mega man X as a kid (I LOVE that game). As an adult I went back to the older ones, even 11, and man the respawning enemies is not forgiving at all, but I love that you learn the patterns of the boss fights to beat them.

Cute story man; I'm sure my Dad felt that way about me some times with the games he passed down
He wasn't much into the Nintendo era, that was my time, but boy did I learn to hate the fucking bat in Adventure

You mentioned fighting games; SSB is a good introductory fighter. I've jumped into lobbies with kids that wreck my shit and will just juggle combo me to death

This place is really turning into Reddit with these threads
Ah I see you're looking for news and not a social web site like a forum

Here's a website for that I think you'd enjoy

Cool story! Gives me some hope for the next generation of gamers. I've already pretty much given up on my nephews all they do is play fortnite/minecraft/shooters and show no interest in other types of games.

He likes SSBU but only playing offline matches for now. Still can't figure out why he likes the 8-players smash if I can't even keep up with all the the things which are happening in the same screen. It's such a visual pollution there.:messenger_confused:

The online is horrible unless you get into lobbies; the voice chat is only available with a cell phone/tablet, so no worries about toxic shit heads screaming "FUCK!" every 2 seconds *Cough*Me*Cough*
The net code fucking blows, especially for the match making queues

Being a man child myself with no current offspring, the only hide-it-in-cheese method I can think of is to widdle him down slowly to 1 on 1s
I still am was also a cry baby about losing in fighting games as a kid, so going down to 1 on 1s may be something you do a little later

That or pull him into training matches for neutral or something
