It all started when my 6 years old kid and I were playing 20XX in local co-op. Heck maybe even earlier than that but anyways. We died a couple of times then we git gud and then we managed to beat the game. I told him that I was very proud of him to became that good in that game.
Then he went looking for more games like 20XX. The boy knew that I am a Mega Man fan and I had plenty of Mega Man games so he picked up my Switch and saw that I had a Mega Man 11 game I've purchased since its release date. I've told him that Mega Man games were difficult games to play but he wanted to play that anyways.
He started playing Mega Man 11 sitting side by side with me while I was working from home. He fell in love with the game. The bosses, the level designs. At first he was playing using a saved game which let him at Dr. Willy's stage door. I still haven't beat all those Willy stages back then and I got frustrated a bit and then started playing other games.
At first he was having a hard time getting past that Willy stage so he asked my help. I told him I couldn't because I was working at the moment so "git gud".
Then sometime later I've noticed that he had already got past that willy stage and now he was facing the 8 bosses before the last boss I guess. He asked me to help him out. I've told him that I couldn't because of the work but I've taught him about some bosses weakness (I don't know all of them because I'm more like a Mega Buster main when facing bosses). But yet he was on his own so basically "git gud".
Then in the next day I've realized that he was already battling against Dr. Willy and he asked me for help again. I said "Ok, Dr. Willy is the final boss so I will help you out". I've battled against Willy a couple of times but I lost all of them. My boy saw what went well and what went wrong with that boss battle. And then he went back playing Mega Man 11 again on his own. So "git gud".
Then in the next day he started over playing Mega Man 11 from the beginning because he said he wanted to defeat all the bosses in their respective stages. It was an uphill battle to him but I've told him he was on his own because I was working at the time. So "git gud" again. Except for maybe Bounce Man and Torch Man which I've taught him the ropes for each stage.
And finally in the next day he was already knocking at the Dr. Willy's door again. After 1 hour I guess he just told me "Dad, I've beaten the final boss". I went to check what was going on in the Switch's screen and I saw a Dr. Willy kind of begging for his life so I was like "wait what? Did he really finish the game? Attaboy."
I've shouted "Congrats son, you've made it. Dad was not even able to finish the game but you did. Congrats. That was one of hell of a game". He was all smiles as I was congratulating him. The first classic Mega Man game I've ever beaten was Mega Man VII and it took like years to accomplish that.
