I wonder if it's time to upgrade from my 1060 especially since I recently got a 34" Ultrawide 1440p monitor. Depends on the price obviously but we'll see soon enough I guess.

This card will absolutely have great performance. Unfortunately it's on Samsung's 8nm node. Power hungry bastard it will probably be. You just know they already have the Super series in their back pocket once TSMC has capacity open on 7nm EUV. If I were gunning for the 3000 series, I would wait for Super. I'm waiting to see what they'll do in the 4000 series of cards based on current speculation.
Do that's what, another year away? So frustrating if that is the plan.

Is that really the size of it, wow, it's a mammoth

Nvidea really needs to get their costs under control. This is exactly the path that AMD has taken to gain so much on Intel in the CPU market. If AMD can compete or exceed NVidea’s performance on the low end it’s going to eventually catch up to the mid and upper tiers as well.

Are they really that worried about AMD?

What is this phantomatic amd gpu who is gonna battle with the 3000 series??

The 80CU version of Big Navi - obviously, everything is still rumor at this point, but the general feeling is that it's going to be pretty comparable to the 3080; slightly better in some aspects, slightly worse in others.

Given that the nVidia brand is heavily invested in having the fastest cards this is not a good position to be in - so having a halo product that clearly outperforms the competition is something they would want to do - even if the only way to do so is by cherry picking the very best of the highest-binned chips and clocking the fuck out of them - which is exactly what that cooler makes me think is happening.

I basically see this as nVidia's "Pentium 4 Extreme Edition" - an SKU that Intel pushed out at a crack-smoking price point using the top 0.001% of silicon just so they could still claim they have "the fastest product" when it was obvious that AMD was getting way too close for comfort.

can you even play current gen games on 1440p at 144hz with a non ti ?
All comes down to settings really - but maxed out at 1440p, 144 is a stretch.
Off the top of my head though
Gears 5 Ultra/insane @1440p was around 90fps and at 4K on the res scaler it dropped down to like 63fps average, something like that.

I nearly got the 2080ti but there was more than a $700 difference in price (Here in New Zealand) and that didn’t justify the FPS difference.

Just give it to baby i can handle her! my 3900x awaits.
Look at this socialist 🤔😂🤣

So the unemployment $600 bonus “that you deserve” has been treating you well? You must really be “sacrificing in these times” to own a 3900x and to be eyeing an RTX 3090.

Why can’t leftist socialists just help but love the fruits of capitalism?

Yes, im doing well for myself enough to treat myself to something nice every now and then so no need for the salt.

Unfortunately, we have no choice but to live in a capitalist society at the moment. I guess i should live miserable every waking day or else im a hypocrite.

It must suck having “no choice.” I know that reality must be hard when everything else is done for you. Viva la revolucion!

Nvidia is going through hoops to get the power advantage....Just cue how everybody including reviewers who always spoke about powerdraw when it came to AMD will be silent on the subject now......Nvidia is in it for the money, their cards on virtue of the expensive cooling will be expensive and you will see many teething issues as a result. This time around, AMD is coming with a 505 mm2 card on an improved node with higher efficiency and much higher IPC and a total conversion to RDNA from any GCN legacy....People are underestimating what this improved 7nm++ node and new efficiencies/architecture will bring, even over a 750+ mm2 NV card at a worse node and head scratching design to cool it.......Nvidia went with faster memory bandwidth for a reason, they knew what Navi2x is bringing to the table, trying to beat Navi 2x on power though, their cards are going to be volatile at the seams......This is AMD's chance to shine with something affordable, powerful and stable......
