We know there is some form of performance gain. How much is the Question. But RDNA 2 is doing Ray Tracing built in to the pipeline. RDNA 1 didn’t. Then we know at least 50% performance gain per watt. So we know the IPC has been change and customized. Or this would still be RDNA 1 and not RDNA 2.

With said the question is how much more performance does RDNA 2 have? We don’t have an answer yet. But if you think 20-25% performance over Polaris from Just RDNA 1, then I feel it’s safe to say RDNA 2 can hit 40% performance over Polaris.

Now in a few weeks we will get more details and a better understanding of RDNA 2. Which will help answer a lot of Questions.
Actually, i just remembered that at the hotchips event MS themselves said that the CUs have 25% more performance compared to last gen so the IPC gains are only 25%.

09:21PM EDT - CUs have 25% better perf/clock compared to last gen

This slide was posted immediately after to show they were indeed talking about GCN, and not RDNA 1.0.

So there you have it, the IPC gains for the XSX over polaris are 25% just like the rdna 1.0 gains over polaris. this means that the 4 tflops xsx gpu is only equivalent to a 5 tflops polaris gpu. so less powerful than the x1x. thats why you wont be seeing the xsx run rdr2 at native 4k.

Hard to say did they mean last gen Xbox or last gen RDNA 1? What I read was somewhat ambiguous?

Also Xbox Series S memory doesn’t have enough bandwidth for 4K gaming.

I mean they have this thing taking up precious die space.

And this is what the XSX APU looks like.

There's some I/O stuff in the XSX APU but nowhere near as much as the PS5s. Sony is taking a pretty big risk choosing to focus on the I/O instead of the GPU.

It's not a risk if that's what developers asked for. GPU naturally progresses forward every generation. There's nothing special about it. You know you're always going to get more powerful CPU/GPU. Factor in diminishing returns too.

Now when it comes to I/O? We've been stuck with a ancient storage speed for decades. It was time it got a change to move game development forward. This is where Sony chose to focused on more because that's what important now, streaming high quality detailed assets in seconds, and better memory management and allocation. Not teraflops and more pixels. Don't fall for the MS brute force power marketing.

Imagine going from working with Nolan on movies that make your jaw drop to working with Marvel and making films that look flat and like they were filmed in parking lots, or at their worst (Black Panther climax) like PS2 cutscenes.

The studio she worked for who worked on Interstellar shut down about 4 months after the movie released

The final fight scene was only finished filming 3 weeks before the cinema release so that vfx was rushed because of that factor

Great box design, I'm curious what Playstation might do. I expect a white box, with blue sides, with some 3d rendered abstracted PS symbols similar to the animations in the future of gaming show.

This make sense given the price the previous X was but wooahh looks like Canada might end up being the country with the best price : this is 456$ US. Major win for us my friend !
Yup. MS Canada giving us a break last few consoles.

But man, did you see the UK price? It should be 384 pounds.... ok round up to 399. Instead it's 450.

Looks like our Commonwealth friends got X-boned.

The top green in the vents should have been a LED light. Once I found out its just green plastic it got kinda ruined for me.

Cool box, but the console should have glowed green out the top in the dark.

The only thing I don't like is that the console isn't white. I don't care about the LED.
