Sounds like doom and gloom nonsense to me.
It said on their official site that it needed to be archived a few days ago, but they apparently changed it, I checked their site now and it's changed to "you can re-download it even after you delete it", so they must have heard people talking about it and fixed the wording.

I think it’s taken me a few years to realize I don’t like Splatoon 2. Or I’m edging towards it, and hope it’s not the case.

Don’t get me wrong, in the perfect world, where you’re a teenager and have three friends willing to play with you every day, it is maybe the best multiplayer shooter ever made. Balance, tactics, strategic map/ink control.

In this one, where most of us will only ever have the option of playing with random brainlets, and Nintendo’s matchmaking even gets a whiff of you being good, and decides you need to carry the worst of the worst... it’s like it completely falls apart. All those good things become bad things, really, really quickly. If other games can recover from terrible teammates, Splatoon is specifically built to make them far more frustrating.

The only time I ever actually like this game, is when it’s been a while, the aggressive matchmaking has actually fucked off for a second, and consequent games are really fun, well-balanced contests between both teams. That usually lasts about a single play session.

It’s just not fun to constantly play against 2-4 people by yourself, to have all the ink lines being rolled back at startling speed, and fundamentally not be able to do a single thing, because your teammates are doing who knows even what. Alternatively, it’s not fun to have to pick the best CQC gun, and play the game like CoD, in a cracked-out, combat-only, 1 on 4 mind state where you spend 3 minutes not even blinking to win, utterly stressed beyond all ridiculousness for what’s supposed to be an enjoyable game.

As someone who adored this series at the beginning, I... honestly don’t think I’d waste my money on a third one, unless Nintendo actually has some meaningful solutions to all this.

Actually completely agree with this. I stopped playing after a while because the matchmaking got waaaaay over the top for someone of my fairly mediocre skill level.

Did you play the single-player mode? I have actually played Splatoon 2 almost exclusively offline. The Octo Expansion in particular is really good imo.

I liked it enough. I love that you fans love it (not the first time I’ve heard that). For me, it was kind of a side-attraction, albeit a really fun one.

As the only person that plays Daemon X Machina, I'm happy they're still adding more content.

WRONG. I played the shit out of that game, really addictive gameplay in that. Noooot a super fan of the mech designs themselves but it's not too bad either. They even had a nice role for Shūichi Ikeda as the Crimson Lord, he also voiced Char Aznable in the OG Gundam series and incidentally, Aegeon in Xenoblade 2.

First dark chocolate, now Splatoon hate...

Jokes aside, I understand. It is hard to queue Splatoon. I was fortunate to have a buddy who played it regularly. Still never got enough time with the game. Certainly the title where real voice chat is most needed.

We should get a 4 person GAF team together sometime.

Everybody should know... peanut butter chocolate is the absolute best. Jeez.
These

...are heaven.

I never did like the other kinds (that I’ve tried) too much, tho. It always seemed like way too much peanut butter.
Big fan of Reese's. Also not peanut butter but I love these:

So, there are 2 new consoles coming out later this year (PS5, XSX/XSS). Apart from Minecraft with raytracing I haven't really seen much to get me to move on a new box this year, and now we're seeing a lot of smoke pointing to new Nintendo hardware some time next year. My question for Nintengaf is: is anyone else feeling more swayed to hold off on PS5/XSX so they can get the new Nintendo next year (provided it's worth it)?

Well I have zero interest in the other consoles so I’m probably not the target for the question - my gaming PCs ought to be fine for a good while yet so no upgrade there. I only just got my Switch so I’d be pissed if a new machine came out that wasn’t backward compatible, but if it’s a big enough step I’d get it.

Depends if Nintendo makes a good case for upgrading. For me, I honestly see zero reason to jump aboard the PS5/SEX this soon. There are no games coming out any time soon for those consoles that interest me. I'll probably wait a year and see how things shake out, like which console performs better and runs games better or maybe an announcement that really gets me going. As things stand, there's absolutely nothing there for me. And I'm an easy sell, like I bought the PS4 for Infamous and the Xbone for Sunset Overdrive.

Well... agree with what you said. I have 2500 in Splatoon 2 and aboit the same in the first one too. Got X rank in S2 in all the modes and used to have fun occassionally but I got too many times annoyed by the game (matchmaking mostly but also the weapon balance which was all over the place: when they finally got it about right, the next patch threw it down the toilet again).

Game mechanics and controls are truly excellent. The idea is great and when it is fun, it is really fun. But far too often the game throws something at you like trying to stop you from having fun. You are playing casually with friends and then the game decides to put you against some 2400 team three or four times in row. And so on.

Shame about it, I really appreciate what it tries to be but for me some aspects of the design turned me off and I haven't played since December. That said, got 2500 hours out of it so...

Unless its a proper next gen Switch i don't care, i know it will be heaven for the sub HD games but hardware is quite expensive i rather wait more.

RE7 and FFXV sold me on PS4 in 2017 and i can't wait to see more of RE8, but if its going to be the only game i want by then, i need to see how things turn out im saving anyways 🤭

We may see FFXVI on wednesday, maybe Elden Ring? 🤔

I'm not really expecting a whole new system. It could certainly be something 3x to 4x more powerful while still acting as an expansion to the current Switch market.

Who knows with Nintendo 🤭 im expecting a new! Switch next year to upgrade the current library and then later Switch 2 but they might come up with XSS but better realized (focus on cross gen games for awhile, at least that was the idea)

There’s nothing compelling enough for me go out and buy a PS5/XsX day one, maybe after a year or two....maybe
A new improved Switch with slightly bigger and better screen with a performance boost ...i’ll be first in line.

Anyone have both a regular Switch and Lite? Worth considering?

I do. A completely stupid purchase, but I like it. My dockable Switch is a launch unit so the battery life is ass. And I just enjoy the form factor of the Lite for portable. It feels so much better, I’m not a fan of the standard one in portable mode.
They make transferring saves easy enough, just make sure you upload your save prior to powering down the one on your TV and you can pull it down easy on the Lite I believe.

Will add that the save upload happens automatically on closing a game, one unit is capable of going anywhere and the other always has to be connected to wi-fi to start a game, and to do the cloud stuff, you're pretty much locked into a Nintendo Switch Online sub.

You can do save transfers manually, from system to system, but it's quite a bit of work, clicking the options on both systems, when the cloud stuff handles it so nicely.

I'll second that it's a bit wasteful, but if you're a big Nintendo fan, or you just love the feel/idea of a smaller, dedicated portable, it's pretty awesome.

I'm wanting to buy both, and even I am feeling swayed to hold off in favor of that, or a new iPad. The game line-up is looking really, really bad for enthusiast gamers. It's looking really, really bad for anyone who wants to see their new hardware even in action, outside of Miles Morales.

Got attached to the PSlim/Nintendo systems relative quietness and size its gonna be hard to adjust to a heavy noisy power hungry monster again 😅 not looking forward to it and new Slim revisions might not even have the disc drives on them.

Supposedly, they're both much, much quieter, with it being a priority. We'll see how that goes. Kind of tempted to believe it though, because Series X is basically a literal mini wind tunnel, and PS5 looks like it has more than enough space for cooling.

I love how I legitimately get hyped for new footage of these games, like I haven't played them a thousand times, lol.

I'm so excited, though. Two weeks has never felt this slow.

Absolutely can't wait. Thoroughly looking forward to getting a proper go at Mario 64 that isn't gimped by dodgy emulation (for whatever reason it just doesn't feel right and yet my machine emulates more powerful systems easily - go figure) and I've wanted to play Galaxy for ages. Sunshine I don't really know what to expect but it seems a bit of an odd one out but it'll be interesting to try it out properly - there's a tendency with stuff you get free (ie pirated or emulated) to not fully invest in understanding the systems of a game.

For me, the normal Switch is great in handheld mode - it feels like I'm the only person who thinks that. My hands are a normal size, ie much bigger than my wife's, so no idea why I'm so special.

See, this is what I'm thinking in the back of my head in those 'just emulate it!' threads, but without a gaming PC, I can't really chime in.

I'm always hearing about bugs, weirdness, and stuff that's off in these emulators, and that isn't something I want to mess with. I want an official release that, pardon the Apple propaganda, just works.

I think you'll really like Sunshine. It's the roughest 3D Mario in some places, but it is an awesome sequel to Mario 64, that takes all the exploration and fun of that game to the next level.

To chime in, btw, the original Switch is a bit... big. But it's never something I've felt negatively or awkward about. It just... is. Like a larger iPad.

If they reduced the weight in a future model, though, that would be nice.

The Lite is definitely delightful to pick up, though. The weight cut and size are absolutely perfect for a dedicated portable.

I find it a little light tbh, its not a bulky thing by any means quite sleek.

I even got used to have a battery pack inserted so when i remove it the normal Switch feels too light :p

Today I figured out a game can give you PTSD, lol.

Might as well contribute, hahaha. Corona Mountain with the boat. Trying to jump up the Boo platforms in the hotel while the camera is doing, I don't even know.

Damn, it's almost like the game antagonizes the player. "Do you want to beat me fucker? Go for all the Sprites if you're so good"

And we haven’t even gotten into the blue coins yet, hahaha.

Which, if you even do get all 120 Shines, the only reward is a static alternate ending screen.

The fact that SMS can occasionally fill in for a circle of hell, and still have people love it, is a testament to how much the rest of the game is fantastic.

The gameplay is absolutely phenomenal, Mario controls like a dream. Those FLUDD-less subareas are GOD tier platforming. Even how it's thematically consistent is pretty neat. It's weird that I can see why someone would love it and why someone would hate it.

It's the lesser game in the collection IMO. If I had to rank them, I'd go Galaxy > 64 > Sunshine. Nintendo is in a league of its own goddamn.
