Take Two CEO on VR: "Thankfully, we didn't waste any money on it. "

The real headline is the cloud gaming stuff.

Where exactly is the demand for this?
There is not demand. Its dreamt up and projected by big companies who want you to stream games to your console, not your phone.

Why own a digital game, when they can lease you the game, bit by bit.

The excuse and push for streaming will come in the form of 'saving space'. Don't download that 200gb 4k game, just stream it... For a fee of course. Oh and you don't own the game. But it's OK. Your Fifa sub will carry over to play fifa 2023, you'll have to buy all your players again though

You are the one consistantly making up anti VR bullshit though without any actual knowledge on the subject you are talking about. You have been doing it for the past couple of years. Check any Anti VR post and there you are.

Now you try to make a caricature out of me because I don´t agree with your point of view. :lollipop_sleeping:

I can't stand that sleeze ball cunt of a CEO but I do agree with him...don't waste yo money on it. Needs another 10-20 years and maybe it will be worth it. Just a gimmick still atm

If you didnt spread crap about things you have no idea about, then I wouldn't call you out on them. Simple as.

I take the argument that it won't replace traditional but be a sidekick. To me it's like top tier PC, vastly superior to everything else. But VR takes that even further than PC gaming ever has.

I just don't associate hardcore VR flight and racing sims with "gimmick." In actual practice, it doesn't make sense because it literally transforms the game to the point there is no going back.

I compare that things like kinect, eye toy? Really? I'm literally blown away that I feel like I'm inside these hyper powerful machines, but somehow that's in the same field as, kinect?

Maybe I used the word "gimmick" wrong, English isn't my native language.

I really enjoy 3d on my monitor. It felt very nice with the depth I saw in Tomb Raider and it really felt immersive.

But I still saw it as a gimmick, because yes its cool and all, but its not the traditional gaming. Keyboard, mouse and controller are traditional, while something like 3d glasses and vr are cool gimmicks or gadgets or whatever you wanna call it.

... Are you argumenting with me, saying the reason I don't like vr is because some random dude on a forum that doesn't know me in real life and are pro vr, says I hate it simply because I can't afford it? Yet doesn't know shit about if I even had a headset and just didn't enjoy it?

That's a new low on discussion boards Holy shit. Let me just say the majority of Neogaf can't afford an Xbox Series X apparently with that logic.
You said it, I am just remembering it.

AH okay, my bad.
I take the blame for not noticing your blatend trolling.
I always fall back into the same scheme of thinking people are actually interested in a argument and not just sitting in a echo chamber, shouting their chants while keeping their ears covered as to not hear anything that might contradict their belief :messenger_tears_of_joy:

The irony is absolutely astounding.

Thankfully you are not in charge of decisions like this. Don't you dare to destroy my hobby.
I can't understand alt leftist way of thinking that everyone should be forced to like what they like.
I know a lot better about what you want from your hobby than you do, at least from the innovation forward-looking side.

I'm open-minded. You're close-minded. I'm a developer and designer. You're either not a developer/designer or clearly not a good designer.

Developers often know a lot better than you, and I'm not even talking about myself here - moreso about the bigwigs that influence change.

Gadgets probably.

I tried 3d gaming too, but let me tell you it's not even remotely close to the 3d on VR. Nowhere near. Not to mention VR portrays life scale images. So a fighter jet is actually the size of a fighter jet. The cockpit literally surrounds you and the scale of the world is accurate. 3dtv, kinect, all that is pure garbage by comparison.

You are remembering wrong. I never said I couldn't afford VR. I got a 2000 dollar pc and a 720 dollar monitor, yet to poor to get a VR headset?
Sucks being poor I know.

Ok maybe you said you were anti VR because someone laughed at someone else who couldn't afford. My point still stands, you said you are anti VR because of some troll which is a strange stance to take due to some asshole.

Most people on here who are pro VR are not trolls, namekuseijin namekuseijin is sure, but mostly people just want to enjoy VR and try to correct the lies that a lot of people like to spout for no other reason apart from "I don't like VR"

Those are some harsh ass, down and dirty, fuck-your-feelings money discussions right there. The kind of talk some people who are fans of this hobby can't really handle. And I applaud them for being so direct. It's similar to that Bloomberg article a week or so back where the guy goes "Playstation makes exciting games and Xbox does not, PERIOD", which is more subjective but still probably rings true and cuts through the polite political bullshit most gamers try to pass off as "balanced viewpoints".

Instead of derailing this further, let me say this. I've tried vr. It wasn't for me.

It's for you, and congrats my friend. You do you, you should really do what you enjoy. My problem is when someone who enjoys something wants to force it down on everyone else.

I don't understand this logic. I would literally hate to put on a VR headset each time I had to play. I enjoy being able to have communication with my gf while we play computer games.

I just feel so isolated when using vr and it just isn't for me. It's a subjective thing.

Edit: added your edit in. I never said you shouldn't be able to enjoy VR. Read all my posts in here. I respect people's preferred choices. The only thing I said, which seems to piss people off, is I personally think it will never become mainstream. At least I hope not, because I wouldn't get cut away from the environment.

Who is forcing it down your throat? Most people here are defending it rather than saying you have to do it. On this forum all it is are people trying to defend something they enjoy against anti VR mob for no good reason. Just as Xbox players have to defend from Sony trolls or Sony players defend from Xbox trolls.

There are some big ass trolls here but most people are just out to enjoy the shit they want to.

Some of the previous posts I quoted on said it had to be forced like 3d gaming etc to make progress. Progress isn't about forcing something.

As I've made clear in my posts. I have nothing against vr. Personally it's just not for me. Then I get attacked by people for not being progressive.

If it sounded like I wanted to burn all vr headsets and their owners, then I am sorry. If I did please quote me and show me and I will apologise.

lol like that fucking matter with all the crap your posting :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy:

lmao dude you are such a fuckin douche bag.

welp , the shit birds and trolls have settled in. time to ignore topic... jfc gettin tired of this shit. fuck gaming side

That was unnecessary hostile. Would be good if you took a break with that hostile attitude.

Actually, I'm in a "Head of billion dollar development/publishing company says VR is dead" thread saying "the same old arguments will be used to defend VR as it fails to take off for the nth year in a row".

I'll see everyone in 2021's version of this thread, where we'll rehash the same argument. I'm sure things will be different then, right?

Right.
I think that's exactly the point though. Why should we expect the debate to be settled in 2021, or 2022, or 2023? How about in 2035 when you can get a pair of sunglasses that can wirelessly stream content from any game world?

The idea of VR is to trick the human brain into thinking that it is really in another place. The appeal of that idea doesn't depend on any specific technologies, and even if all of the current technologies fail, the idea can still come back later in another form.

Fair enough, I agree you are not like some anti VR trolls on here. I apologise for going hard on you. I am just trying to be as straight as I can and wanting to correct some lies that some people like to spread.

I personally have never said VR will overtake traditional gaming, I love traditional gaming.

VR is an enthusiast device, due to the number of barriers for some people (Like my eyesight and motion sickness).

It will never be mainstream, but can survive as a niche.

Funny since that's what they said about homecomputers and early consoles...

Heck, it has been said about a lot of things which turned out to be false like the Internet, cell phones and smart phones, etc.

VR is going to be the mainstream way of gaming one day. Won't happen quickly, several decades, but it will once it's really easy to use, cheap and works in such a way that no one will get motion sick. Without current VR tho we won't get there

No hard feelings. Things can get misunderstood easily when on a forum instead being in front of a person face to face. Glad we got along :)

Because they have been experimenting a lot with haptics through their patents submitted by their PSVR R&D team.

I´m sure they have developed this and more stuff, but I´m more inclined to the idea that sony just happen to want some new feature on their controllers, so they used what they had on hand.

I don't disagree, but doesn't that strike you has a very safe and convenient position to take? You can't be proven wrong since you're committing to very nebulous goalposts that keep moving as long as you need it to. All VR enthusiasts have to do is recycle the same defense every year: it's not there yet. When it will be there? Next year. Or the year after that. Or...you get the idea. It's like a man who can turn invisible, but only when no-one is looking. Good luck proving him wrong.

Now maybe VR succeeds, maybe it doesn't. I'm not convinced either way even though I'd like it to succeed, but what I am convinced of is that anyone who claims to know the future is peddling bullshit.

Or maybe I'm bitter that I won't get a holodeck in my lifetime.

After that I tried Skyrim VR again, this time with MOVE controllers (the only way to truly play the game): I was hooked. Platinum'd it couple of weeks ago = one of the best gaming-experiences ever.

really? I picked it up at a toys R us going out of business sale... didn't want to deal with Skyrim load times again, so i haven't tried it.
Sounds like a first game on the PS5 if it works?

Sometimes things are just too obvious, too logical, and too connected for such a future to not turn out.

VR going mainstream would be completely natural given how it's core to human values at their core. The idea of sharing spaces and experiences with people. We are social creatures afterall - something that VR captures better than any other medium, and even better than real life in a number of ways.

The pandemic has also caused a new normal with areas like remote work, remote education, and remote events. VR would of course be at the heart of this in the future because everyone would prefer those in VR, even VR skeptics.

I feel too old for VR and Neuralink, hell I have also stopped gaming regularly now.
I think the amount of setup and attention VR requires will make it less mainstream than gaming on a PC or TV console.

If one day, Neuralink can totally replicate my consciousness, allowing me to live forever then perhaps I will try it though. lol

How can something become mainstream when so many people can't use it? 🤷‍♂️

And no, you don't just "Get used to it". Motion sickness is something you have for life. I've been getting sick in cars since I was born.

NOW they can't use it. It is improving every year and it will continue to do so. It will be mainstream.

When you actually own it and play games like Alix, the ones that are always attacking it sound like a group of 7 year old kids trolling. The CEO's statement tells you why the gaming industry is at such a terrible and uncreative state right now.

Was a gimmick in the 90s, still a gimmick today. Until they got the form factor down to a normal pair of glasses with a reasonable price, it will continue to be niche and I have no interest personally

Thankfully, CEO's can be wrong, and he is.

VR is crazy good and will continue to get better. And it IS in its infancy...consumer infancy. Know the difference.

Edit: oh, and I would bet money the OP never tried HL: Alyx. Calling VR a gimmick after that just doesn't happen.

I just found out about this. It absolutely shows what I mean. (which is why I'm quoting myself)

Literally being the star role in a movie/alternate universe where everyone else is a live person; it's truly the ultimate form of roleplaying.

Once you get past the graphics of today, it's easy to see how monumental this will be in the future.

VR is still a niche product, the form factor is too bulky and experiences on current hardware (outside of being tethered to a pc) is still limited. Give it 10 years, it will progress a lot in the next decade.
That being said it is the future, not only for gaming but for all forms of computing and entertainment.
Anyone who has tried a half decent hardware solution with some of the higher end titles already know this.
Sitting in an NPC house at their dinner table in Skyrim, as the fire crackle, smoke drifts up from the brazier, being able to pick up things from the table is an experience that totally murders pancake gaming, and this is early days.

Initial setup is the only hassle for me. After that, it's less than a minute and I'm in VR.

This guy is a dickhead. VR is the future.
VR isn’t the future. It’s a small part of the future, but the large majority of games do not benefit at all form VR, and would probably be worse in VR.

Just like 3D gaming, it’s a niche that is being pushed way too early.

AR has a much bigger future than VR, because it’s much more useful outside of gaming.

Why don't the majority of games benefit from VR? What genres exactly? Because when I play VR, just the added depth perception makes me more precise with aiming, melee, and jumping. Flying and racing is vastly superior in VR.

Flying and racing sure, but fighting, FPS, 3D action adventure, side scrollers, sports, etc don’t really benefit at all.
