Sony: "We have not changed the production number for PlayStation 5"

Thread title should include "does not deny poor yields"
"We have not changed the production number for PlayStation 5 since the start of mass production."

The writer of the FUD article based his theory of yield issues due the production volume having dropped in 4 million but in reality the production volume never changed since it entered in mass production.

A drop in 4 million less units equates to a lot of revenue being wiped out.

Right, but those are short term investors selling based on fear. The real numbers will correct the market in the end, nothing they say now will change the facts, only delay the inevitable if there are in fact shortages, or let the number speak for themselves later with the real revenue projections if demand is met.

No kidding! Bloomberg isn't Kotaku, It's supposed to be a reliable news & business source not a gaming rag that runs with rumors posted on GAF, ReeAsylum and Twatter.

We should be able to rely on information they report, but apparently NOT. This is disgusting and I don't trust their info on the estimated BoM for consoles either, in fact I don't trust their information on ANYTHING now.

About time....

You cant ahve news sources claiming multi billion dollar losses on gossip, which not only affect Sony but other customers of TSMC such as apple etc.

The companies had to give a market statement that is legally correct.

And it was easy to detect it was bullshit anyway. But got to get those news site clicks and revenue.

Take a moment to read what you just wrote.
Yeah changed their outlook before production started. Whereas previously they had higher numbers. At some point Sony had an estimate for production numbers , lowered it then production started. Since production started, they haven't lowered their estimate AGAIN. It's really not that hard to understand.

Look at their total market cap then work out the numbers based on the percentages.

This isn't pocket change we are talking about, this is people's money, and a lot of it.

You don't fuck around with this stuff, not even short term. If there's a direct correlation between bullshit out there and your share price taking a nosedive then you have a responsibility to correct it ASAP.

The longer you let bullshit like this fester and cause a drop in value, the less confidence your investors will have in you.

My question is: Who holds Bloomberg accountable for lies and fabrication? Do they just fire the journalist for making it up? Or is he sticking by his source.. or how does that all work

I think this one was nasty because it came from Bloomberg. I thought they had high standards.

NO Sony said it was totally false all Bloomberg report.

Reading.....hard....again.
You believe all PR over investigative journalism? Got it. It's not like Sony has motive to protect their stock and financials or anything after the Bloomberg report and their stock fell. It's called discernment failure. I'd bet money that Sony is being dishonest or at the very least, misleading.

You will have to come up with some new FUD by tomorrow, getting desperate, nothing to look forward to....?

A legal statement to the markets, if its misleading maybe you can take Sony to court....

Take the L like a man and stop whinging....it was clear to anyone with half a brain it was stupid.

Agree to disagree. There's always wiggle room with statements like maybe Bloomberg's numbers were close but a little off though still damaging...now Sony can say it was wrong even though there's a lot of substance to it.

I would wager there's a a lot of substance to the report despite any inaccuracies if true. You believe the journalist.....made it up?

Not to get too cynical, but this is a nice lesson in how the world really works in microcosm and what the role of the media really is. Much easier to see the bigger picture with tidy examples like this.

"We have not changed the production number for PlayStation 5 since the start of mass production."
So Sony really is only targeting 6 million consoles since bloombergs reported increase in production was after mass production began.

The writer of the FUD article based his theory of yield issues due the production volume having dropped in 4 million but in reality the production volume never changed since it entered in mass production.

You have that backwards bub. Yields were the reason for the speculated drop in production

You can't cut production if you never publicly announced your production numbers.

Sony could ship 10 PS5's and still make the same claim.

Outstanding logic, as usual: What if the initial target was 10 millions, Oh wise one? Where did you get that figure from again? Oh, yes, from the same source that happens NOT to be Sony.

I hope for the sake of myself and my fellow Gaffers that Sony is in fact able to provide a decent amount of PS5s from when the preorders go live and throughout the holidays. I’ve been able to acquire every console on launch day since the PS1 days and I’d hate for that streak to end but I understand there’s other factors at play this time around. Still, I’ll be spamming the shit out of that preorder link as soon as they go live!!!

It’s honestly kinda crazy how much FUD surrounds this console, man

The American video games media and youtubers are working around the clock. Ex-Sega fans still vindictive and resentful because of the fall of their Ancient God; Many of those converted to worshipping the Xbox, and some of them ended up writing for magazines, websites and blogs. Die Hard fans from the OG Xbox and 360 era that have gravitated towards Western styles: W-RPG, FPS, multiplayer centred titles, and who have never given the PS a fair chance. Bizarre individuals supporting the local team, Sony being seen still as the Japanese -LOL- entity. Shills that get free toys, exclusive insights and interviews, and to whom MS likes to leak stuff...
The army of the 12 million monkeys... :messenger_sunglasses:

This statement is pure damage control bullshit and the tell tale sign is the unnecessary emphasis and qualification of "the start of mass production". They would have known yields were terrible from pre-production runs. It's entirely possible they had planned/intended to increase production to 15 million but determined they couldn't before any tangible action was taken. They're being forced to stick with their original target, and thus technically and literally are not cutting production by 4 million. The end result however is still a net loss of 4 million units. The ways we reached this same outcome are seemingly contradictory polar opposites, Corporate Double Speak 101. A real denial of this story would have explicitly refuted any plans of a 15 million target or yield issues. This made investors nervous, tanked their stock price, and made potential customers panicked and angry, they had every reason to squash it by any means necessary.

Happened exactly as you said. No doubt. Thank you for your time, Mr. Poirot. Now, if you could take your anti-hallucinations medication before going to bed?

I can't wait to put my hands on the 8 Teraflops, RDNA 1.5, overheating and almost surely defective PS5.

Playstation's been manufacturing consoles for 25 years. I bought all of them and to this day not a single one has been a faulty product. But somehow, according to FUD Express, Sony forgot how to make them in 2020.

Any time a corporation puts suspect qualifiers in an official statement and fails to address key/pertinent details specifically, it's an immediate red flag to proceed with caution and consider very carefully what they actually said in a legal sense.
