South Park Season 24's premier episode is, of course, about COVID-19

Okay, sometimes I’m put off by how it’s just a parody of last week, or recent times, but this is absolutely perfect.
South Park has always been that way.

Like the first episode right after 9/11 was everyone being scared of terrorists.

Is South Park still good? I haven't seen it in years... and Simpsons and Family Guy have definitely declined in quality.

You definitely felt the decline the last few years. And as several have mentioned the focus on recent events doesn’t hold up as well as their older stand alone episodes. But I’d say the decline isn’t as bad as FG/Simpsons.

Can't even remember the last time I watched SP. Got tired of all the current events shit.
The quality has gone to shit, would not recommend it. The last good episode was when Butters was a mexican. Which was like what, 9 seasons ago?

I haven't watched South Park for the last 4 or 5 seasons. Still not sure if it's worth going back to.

Edit: Just realized they're on season 24. It's been more like 7 missed seasons.
I stopped watching after the episode where Cartman fed a boy his own parents in an elaborate chilli contest prank.

I considered it so perfectly horrific, yet hilarious, that either it would never be able to top that moment, or in doing so it would have to go too far and not be able to also land the humour.

That is the best episode of South Park imo but they have had plenty of gems since then.

About time!, Can't wait.

If there's one recent year where I don't mind the whole season using the "last week in America" style of episodes, it's this one.

I do think there's been some stumbles the last few seasons, the 2016 election season might be the worst season they've ever had (with some real highs still!) but I think they've been recovering from that pretty well.

South Park puts themselves in a unique position to be able to create an episode in a week, so the topical humor it has is immediately relatable to current events. This was evident in the Obama wins episode, because when Obama won, literally the next day the episode was about Obama winning. This was a combination of predicting he was going to win, combined with the episode being created in under a week. Matt and Trey thoroughly expected Trump to lose, so when they wrote Garrison in as this racist psychopath, they thought it would just end there and that story would fade out, but when Trump won, they had to completely re-write the entire season and, while they did an OK job, it was easily one of their worst seasons. They recovered well though, and that one season was a blemish on an otherwise stellar series.

Yeah, exactly, whole sub-plots get completely dropped as a result, too.

Been watching season 1 recently. When you see the sheer quality of those episodes it becomes clear that South Park has become a mere shadow of what it once was.

No... it got so much better than Season 1... peaked somewhere around 10 but is still better than it was in the start.

Nothing will ever beat Mr Hankey The Christmas Poo and An Elephant Makes Love To A Pig. Death was awesome too. Mr Hankey is the best of those - genuinely laughed my arse off.
