"The Invincible" only claims to run on Series X. Some people are saying if it runs on X it runs on S by default, like they're that analogous. But... I've also seen people argue the S won't hold next-gen back because third party devs won't be forced to make games for it. But... I see people saying Microsoft won't certify a game for X unless it can run on the S... man my head hurts... is it just the naming conventions being too confusing, was the announcement for what the game plays on planned before the S reveal? Does Series X just look sexier than saying XBOX Family? But the real question, if you were buying an S... wouldn't you want to know FOR SURE games were supporting it?

I’m sure the Series X will be dragged down by it’s retarded little brother for the whole generation. Meaning, every game available on the X will also be available on the S.

Have MS given up on promoting XSX? The way they're meant to be played on the weakest next gen console?

To me it feels more and more like the last generation from MS where the XSS is the Xbox one S and XSX the Xbox one X - or in other words the base console is the XSS. That is not bad at all but aligns poorly with the 'most powerful console' message (and personally I do not believe it to be true outside of TFLOPS paper specifications - but we'll see).

This has grown even stronger in me as it seems that there is close to zero meaningful customisations on the two GPUs in the S and X.

These two consoles are the best value PC platforms money can buy - and that is a great thing! But that means that the messaging this year has been a mess from MS. PS5 is going with a highly customised platform and exclusive titles. MS is coming with best value offer and gamespass. Very different strategies and great for gamers.

If the event tomorrow really shows some nice new games, and "exclusive", I don't understand how the Xbox Team can cope.
Seriously, that cheap service to access games is nice, but "what games"? Microsoft is still failing to convince why these new consoles exist, games that justify their existence. What's the point of having the most powerful hardware if it's not gonna be used by the games? And worse, you don't even need the hardware to play the games with that service, it's accessible even from your phone, so again, whats the point of buying a new Xbox? This is what I mean when I say that the best combination is PS5 + Next Switch, because you'll now need a new Xbox to play "Xbox games". A PS5 will not be cheap, but it's a price asked for exclusivity. Seems like Sony is really putting it's chips on a lot of exclusive games. If this proves to be true tomorrow than, again, why would anyone "waste" money on a Xbox, even if it's cheaper, instead of saving the money for the Sony and Nintendo pair?

I wouldn't be surprised if years from now Microsoft ends up just paying devs to make a version for the Sbox or just do it themselves somehow.

Sorta like their backwards compatibility effort; they just do it in house.

The Series S plays ALL Series X games at a lower resolution. The confusion seems deliberate and self-serving. In other words it's plain ol' FUD.

For the record...

"The Xbox Series S will play every game that can be played on Xbox Series X, just at a lower resolution with lower quality textures."

Is it even the best value offer though? A huge factor in value for me is games. I'd pay at least $100 more for a console just be able to play Sony exclusives.

I am in the same boat. However, I believe a lot of people - especially families - are having a console in the living room to play games such as the standard EA sports library et cetera. For them XSS with a basic library through game pass makes a lot of sense.

For hardcore gamers? Not so much. I agree with that.

Everyone has different tastes and can enjoy both it is sad that people don't understand that. I loved ghosts of tsushima, I am jacked for the 3 RPG studios of Microsoft it is possible to see value in both it is not 1 or the other.

Issue is for kids who want to play Fortnite for free? No option on Xbox.

And PS4/5 has Spider-Man, which can also pull some kids in too.

You are acting like all of those Xbox studios are never coming out with games or that third party doesn't exist. Game Pass is great, but I don't have a lot of interest playing on my phone or tablet.

Right now, nothing yet announced has me interested in either console at launch, but maybe that will change tomorrow. We shall see.

With games going to 69.99 gamepass is going to be even more appealing. For the price of 2 games you can get a year of normal gamepass and almost a year of ultimate that includes online play.

This is the strangest beef on gaf

I have no beef with kyliethicc kyliethicc . He just frustrated with all the FUD and BS. I’m just happen to be the Person he lashed out at. It’s all good. I wish him well and I hope he gets His PS5 Pre order in. I don’t take forum shots personal. I’m just joking with him. Though he could be taking it serious. But I don’t mean nothing by it.

Okay, let’s talk about game pass because I saw a lot of Xbox fans are marketing it the wrong way. Bro, your first priority is to convince all Xbox owners to subscribe to game pass. then you can try convincing ps fans to get an Xbox AND subscribe to game pass.

I have game pass pc. I’m cool with it. But MS is hiking the price so I have to pick and choose the ecosystem again. Most likely I will stay with ps and only renew game pass when a big game hits. I’m pretty sure a lot of people will do the same because ps plus builds up a backlog very quickly. The caveat is that game pass will not be profitable in this way, leading to less quality games and less subscriptions. It’s a downward spiral.

For a subscription model to work, it needs sufficient subscribers to keep funding quality titles. Microsoft is not stupid. they have been using all the tools to drive the subscriptions. But 10m subscribers with heavy promotions is not yet enough. If gamepass gets 40m subscribers, it can get some huge hits on game pass consistently, people will embrace the Xbox ecosystem. Let the games do the talk. The value game won’t work on Ps fans, who are spoiled by extremely high quality titles.

anyway it’s late for me. Hope it makes sense

They recommend 16 GB of RAM + 8 GB of VRAM for the 1080 with RT... but Series S only has 7.5 GB of RAM total. I have no idea how they'll get that to work.

Consoles always limp along with a lot less RAM usage by the CPU. I would assume that system RAM requirements on PC are being exaggerated a bit here also (typical for PC recommendations).

I disagree Rust in Peace is just incredible, Mustaine's riffs are just on another level in my opinion. But I would love to see another reality where Mustaine never leaves and Cliff lives.

100% on the musicianship and technical side: if you play and love guitar then you can probably do a good job of covering anything off of Master of Puppets or Justice after 6 beers with just a few years of training; by contrast, doing anything from Rust “correctly” requires 6 meth tablets and a good night of sleep... and it’ll still sound wrong.

So I asked MLiD about God of War sequel potentially being shown tomorrow and here was his reply.

Btw I’ve always been very skeptical about this dudes sources/information.

Just trying to play devil's advocate here, has Moore's Law got things right in the past? How spot on was he with the June 11th event reveals?
