So its clear the series isn't the same value proposition at $299 vs a digital $399 ps4, will ms lower the price to compete?
To $249? $199?

And the X, does that need to drop as well. For someone who doesn't care about the disk drive, its now $100 more. Should it drop to $449? $399?

They can't wait too long, people will start making decisions and prebooks soon.....

Playstation 5's strategy is a winning one i think...

They have a $100 difference for digital only console which will attract more people to it, however those people will be forced to buy from PS Store at $70+ a game.

The digital only version of the Ps5 looks way sexier than the disc version of the PS5, its ugly and not symmetrical.

Applaud Playstation for their clever tactics

They are not aiming at core gamers and hardcore gamers who know about the power difference and the value. They are aiming at casuals with FHD Tvs and 100 bucks are 100 bucks + Game Pass and All Access. I don't think They cut the price.

I was 100% buying an X for me and my wife but their show a few weeks back was literally woeful as fuck.

Tonights Sony presentation nailed it, and Demons Souls being a launch title? Fuck I'm not so sure now......

MS need to do something, as their game showing was just shit. Everything I was buying for the X (AC, Watch Dogs, Cyberpunk) is available on both, I'm seeing very little reason to go with MS at the minute.

Not really, most of those getting the Series S are prioritizing price over everything else. TFs, resolution, etc. wont matter that much.
I *guess* of course.

Series S looks like a waste of time now. $100 you get a much more powerful machine that is actually next-gen, much bigger SSD, and realistically better first-party games.

Posts/people like this is the reason why they should consider it. If Freeman76 and people like him who are on the fence and don't care about physical games, suddenly the series X is $100 more......

It's priced where it should be.

Xbox Series X: most powerful console $500
PS4 Digital: weaker console, but with exclusives at $400

Series S still makes sense for those on a budget, PS4 Disc version seems like a bad option to me because it's $100 for a disc drive... last generation a $100 difference from Sony got you a 2x better GPU.

I wouldn't get the Xbox SERIES X even if it's $1 lol

Microsoft is likely to release a Xbox Series X digital (or the rumored Series V) for 400€.
They are losing a ton of money on the Series S, so they won't be lowering the price anytime soon.

Your move? There's no reason for them to do anything to compete. I think they'll be just fine.

If anything what I learned from both Playstation and Xbox is that it's a great time to be a PC player.

Amen brother. We’re in the same boat. Hard to see how Microsoft will bounce back.

at 499, XSX is abetter console than PS5. Also most people at Neogaf already made up their mind of which console to buy based their fanboyism regardless of pricing anyway. No reason to adjust price.

From what I read they did have a digital version Of the X. I’m guessing they would have trouble manufacturing all 3 at once. Big mistake!

LMAO. The X isn't even out yet and you want a price cut!?!?1 The Xss will definitely find it's own niche among parents who have no clue and on Xmas day will find out their error when their child doesn't understand why they can't play the new Spidey game.

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
You have GamePass on Xbox, I don't think I saw anything similar on PS5. Except for what seemed like a paid backward compatibility subscription, with a limited number of games available.

And it will probably have more subscribers than Xbox game pass.

Why does Microsoft need to drop X price seeing its clearly the more powerful machine

The one thing I am still unsure about is the backwards compatibility though, as the thought of a RDR2 replay (for example) with boosted graphics/framerate is more likely on Xbox isnt it?

So many people in this thread ain't looking at the bigger picture, this has no effect on series S and will sell well for the casual audience. Take off the Sony fan-boy glasses and look.

Better how? Just on flops because you do realise that the Xss is going to drag the XsX down to its level. You realise that right? The Xss is 1/3 the power...do you realise how hard it will be to scale shit. I mean you already have absolute proof of the consequences of this....take a long hard look at HI. then take a long hard look at the reveal and wonder what COULD have been.

PC remains the best choise for xbox games thanks to MS strategy and they just gave me absolutely no reason to ever buy XsX as their are no exclusives. The new Nvidia cards just obseleted all Xbox machines because every game they release will ALWAYS be better on PC. This is why HI should have been an XsX exclusive. But MS doesn't believe in that strategy anymore so I have no reason to buy X.

MS will be focusing on pc right now, they will announce age of mythology 2, rise of nations 2. I prefer the current MS a lot. Both wasteland 3 and flight are super awesome games that will beat the ps5 launch titles for me easily. Also much prefer age of empires 4, avowed than any ps Console exclusives so far. MS is hitting their stride now after 2 decades for me and I sure hope they won’t go back to only doing console games.

No idea. Sony isn’t exactly sharing stuff with us right now. I assume that’s a bad thing. Definetly holding on to my X1X for a while for multiplats current gen.

I think the pricing for both is fine. The XB Series X is the more powerful system and has a really awesome feature set (Upgrades to frame rates and HDR on old games and Game pass/Cloud gaming etc)
If they lower the price on anything they should lower the Series S 30 or 40 bucks. Given my limited number of posts as a member here on GAF I'm sure I'll get crucified for saying this as there is a notable Sony bias here but, Sony did not show anything at this last conference that wowed me. Numerous cross gen titles or remakes, that is what we got. For a company that says they believe in generations, you wouldn't know it after watching that show. Since I'm well into the Xbox ecosystem this show actually cemented my decision pick up a series X day one over the ps5.

I don't know if MS is holding anything back but right now both are a bit underwhelming from a launch software perspective. I expect these systems to mature over the next few years. Until then, it makes sense for an Xbox guy like me to stay in the ecosystem he has invested in for longer than a decade. I also have some investment into the Sony ecosystem so at some point in the future I'll pick one of those up when the games are there.

I can't believe people still are believing the SSD secret source dream. There have been so many threads on this topic. We will let real next gen game analysis on performance speak for itself.

Please explain why it’s better at the same Price? I’ve seen trailers for both systems and PlayStation games actually look better!

I think XSX is better at 499 because of the spec, most likely, third party games will run better on XSX. And 99% of the games are going to be third party games.

Just buy the one you like better.
