Believable. Sony has a better grasp on global sales compared to MS. I would like to know the North America sales comparison since it “should” be more equal fighting grounds.

I would also ask if both pre-orders sold out...did MS grossly underestimate the desire for people to buy their systems if Sony still had a 3x lead on them?

I don't think so, especially for Xbox. The big retailers from what I have seen have not sold out. Maybe at actual launch day it might be different.

The next-gen expectations tend to be based on the previous success sans the PS3. Nobody should be thinking that every generation gets their hype reset to 0 every time a new generation rolls out. Suffice to say the Xbox totally lost to the PS4 this gen is an understatement, and to suddenly catch up to that goodwill because of the Bethesda purchase/most powerful console of all time is just not that realistic.

We've got 2 months to find out. I'm still expecting the PS5 with a good solid lead.

MS should have (if they didn't) stacked the US with consoles to have more inventory than Sony so they can tweet out (leak) that they outsold PS5 preorders in the US. Most news sites would grab that headline and run with it.

For all we know they may still do this either by backloading a ton of inventory to launch day and/or having more trickle out until then or perhaps picking a second big day to unload a lot of units.

Sony’s initial pre-order day was a clown show. I’d guess they want to rectify that. I’m hoping they blow it open with a ton of units at various retailers soon and do it properly.

it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out n compare their approaches in various markets. MS has an uphill battle outside the US, but that’s part of the fun of watching these two companies compete. Each is interchangeably David & Goliath in their own respective ways.

Sony’s launch was a cluster fuck, which contributed a great deal to them being sold out so quickly in the states. The Xbox launch was handled much better from a timing and managerial standpoint. Those are the only facts we know as of yet.

We don’t know the number of units each company made available in each region. So at this time it’s really impossible to say what any of this means. What we do know is that in the states, Xbox had a more organized pre-order process and still sold out. It was extremely difficult to get one, but not impossible. Sony’s pre-order process was pure chaos as they allowed retailers to jump the gun and almost all units were gone the night before most people thought they’d be available.

The fact that Xboxes are still available where you live could mean that demand isn’t as high as it is for PS5...or it could mean MS allocated far more units to your region than Sony did. Or some combination of both. We simply don’t know yet.

Demon's Souls alone is worth it since I've never played the PS3 version. SSD alone is worth it.

We cool. I’m just tired of fanboy nonsense. A certain amount of gamesmanship between rivals is to be expected. In the right spirit it’s even fun. But some of the fanboy BS in here has me wondering if some people are seriously off their meds at times.

Edit: I’m super excited to play the Demons Souls remake too. I still need to play the OG! Have had it for like 7 years n barely played it. Maybe I can knock it out before the PS5 launch.

2 reasons why this isn't surprising.

First, Sony already outsold MS Last Gen so it makes sense that this trend would continue somewhat.

What's the point of discussing unlimited stock when the fallacy is the notion that more pre-orders were placed for PS5? Anywho, as I said I’m looking forward to the Demons Souls remake. I feel pretty fortunate I was able to secure a PS5 given how badly that process went. Was considering not keeping it due to the lackluster launch titles (same for Xbox), my preference for a black console, preferring to wait for a slim refresh, etc... but I think Demons Souls is the one thing that’ll tip me towards keeping it.

In defences of xbox, it has a superior attach rate vs playstation. Despite xbox one losing market share in US.

According to Ubisoft, for every $1 that the average PlayStation 4 owner spent on Ubisoft games in the French publisher’s fiscal third quarter, the average Xbox One gamer spent $1.25 on the same products.

And also, NA accounts for half of console market share. So NA performance should give glimpse of xbox trajectory.
