Will the PS5 have the best launch year exclusive lineup in history?

I’m not trying to start a fanboy war or anything. I’m just curious, and would like to know if anyone recalls a stronger launch year from any console? I mean, even though some of the revealed titles don’t have confirmed release windows I think it’s safe to say they’re all targeted to be released in 2021, and it’s looking quite impressive to say the least.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Demon’s Souls
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
God of War: Ragnarök
Horizon: Forbidden West
Gran Turismo 7
Returnal
Sackboy: A Big Adventure
Final Fantasy XVI (Probably 2022 or later, but who knows?)

PS2 comes to mind as also having a strong first year, but what else?

You should include the multi-platform games unless your point is exclusives I do think if you try to judge launch lineup subjectively you need to remove from it your personal opinion because what really matters is diversity of the lineup. when someone buys a new console there needs to be a diverse selection of games so that there's something for everyone right at launch the good thing about that with PS5 is that if you're a PS plus subscriber you get 18 of the best games of last gen right off the bat. Obviously this is even bigger for game pass though you could argue people should do PS now I'm not even sure why PS now isn't considered a relevant competitor especially since you can download PS4 games with it I'm pretty sure you can also download PS2 and PS1 games I'm trying to remember exactly the memory I have is that it's only PS3 games you can't do that with because of the way they were designed around that cell processor.

anyways it's not the most exciting for me because I'm usually excited by one big killer app and to be fair demon souls could end up being my favorite launch game ever but it's not as exciting as Mario 64 or Halo were in their time. Even if I absolutely love demon souls better than both games that doesn't remove the fact that it's another souls game and it's a remake of a previous souls game on top of that. As much as I love the souls games it's not much of an evolution of the formula it's more and more of the same which is great when I look at the best launch games they were not more of the same they were something brand new and exciting and innovative. I would not call demon souls any of these things but it certainly gorgeous and it certainly going to be amazing.

Hahaha what??? Not even close. Also, we have to wait until the games come out, we don’t even know WHEN or if there will be a delay.
also, we can’t say if any of those games are good, we have to have a look at them first.
so, let’s wait and don’t jinx it please. Thanks.

The game title sounded like a dildo, it was a win in my book.

I remember rboth DC and Xbox having solid launches.

What was the Xbox game where you were like an avatar (from the film avatar) and you collected elements or something? I think it began with A
O god, I remember wanting Blue Stinger to be so much better than it was.
yeah I was one of those people who bought a Dreamcast at lunch and got blue stinger with it man what a very mediocre game

Aren't these all also on PS4? I mean your title says exclusives and yet

And if you think FF16 is coming within the first year then prepare yourself for disappointment

I feel like that's just going to be the reality as we move forward whenever next generation happens they're probably all going to be cross-gen games. PlayStation and Nintendo being the only people even expecting you to buy a platform.

God, it was awful too. I still fondly look back though.

Half of those games won’t release within a year.

And no, Mario 64 smokes any launch exclusive lineup.
you see I'm a big Mario 64 fan but I don't like this argument what if someone doesn't care for platformers what if someone doesn't even care about the entire Mario franchise? if some new console launches with the best sports game ever made or the best racing game to ever exist I'm not going to agree with anyone who thinks that was the best launch lineup because that game is the best of that genre I don't care about. I mean unless it was like a burnout type racing game then you got me.

1) Look up Gen 6
2) Look up Sony's (or any major publisher) history of delaying games
3) Where are the reviews for these games?
4) Sackboy?

Don't get me wrong. If these all release within a year of launch and they live up to their promise then it should be a good showing for sure. Things just seem to rarely go as advertised and "2021 is going to be loaded" slowly becomes "2022 is going to be loaded" and so on and so forth.

It has a full blown remake of one of my favorite games ready at launch. That look absolutely stunning, a truly next gen leap that melts the competition by a wide margin. So, in my opinion, yes, PS5 has the best launch I've seen. It's the sole reason I buy a console at launch for the first time since Dreamcast.

You really think GT7 is 2021?
Pretty sure most everyone does. Game looked very far along when they showed in in June. I personally expect an echo of the PS2 launch with GT coming in Q4 (Jan-March).

Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Demon’s Souls
&.... CyberPunk (via BC)

Thats an amazing launch line up for me!

The answer is No. Demons Souls is the only immediately available game I want. I would have bought Miles Morales, but upon learning that I wouldn't upgrade my Spiderman for PS4 copy means I can't out of principle. If MS can do Smart Delivery there is no justification that Sony can't and is one of the few decisions Sony has made in the last few years that has legit pissed me off. That and the fact that I didn't get an invite to pre-order a PS5 eventhough I have been on PS+ since the beginning and bought every major exclusive off of the PSN, but apparently that doesn't qualify as "activity." Yes I am bitter.

The main games I want to play are Assassins Creed Valhalla, Cyberpunk, Demons Souls and Watch Dogs Legion. 3 of the 4 will be available on XSX.

Demon's Souls is amazeballs! That said I would not be shocked if GT gets pushed back and if thats a case it goes from awesome sauce to brag about it to your friends in middle school as far as launch years go.

lol? PS2 didn't have half the lineup Dreamcast had - which was 11 Triple AAA titles at launch all receiving from 8-10 ratings. PS2 beat Dreamcast on hype alone and somehow the narrative has changed to PS2 had a launch lineup?! lol.

No, since most of those games won't come out in the next 365, especially the biggest ones. In fact, its lineup of real launch titles is very weak.

I think its fine to tentatively peg GT and FFXVI as 2021. They have both been in development a long time and look pretty far along in their showing

I think if they do release all those By 2022 you cant deny that.
DC and PS2 had a strong first year too. Snes Too
and dont pay attention to half the anwsers clearly people cant tell the difference between launch and 1st year of titles.....

I just looked at Dreamcast, PS2, and GCN and they all had better launch year exclusives as well.

I could keep looking, but I can confidently say that the PS5 launch year isn’t even close to the best.

Post it up and we can compare :)
DC Had probably the best launch month ever, well UK and USA. Dreamcast Japan was awful. Same as PS2, but I can remember the USA year I believe had MGS2, FFX, Onimusha etc. But I woudn’t say God of War Ragnarok, Demon Souls, Horizon and FF16 are any less

If the majority of the those actually hit their dates then yeah its hard to top it

From a first party stand point at the very least
