[Push Square] Sony's lack of communication is becoming an issue

It is NOT an issue. PS5 will sell like hotcakes, doesn’t matter how “the media” Spins Sony’s silence. They just do what they think is right. Can’t say blame em, they seem to know what they’re doing, consider the RAGING success of the PS4 and PlayStation in general (!)

Sony only shows thinks if the competition had already shown it's cards. Price was only revealed after MS announced the pricing. Tech was only shown after MS showed something. Games were only shown after the disappointing MS show. And they only show the good things they can show, not the ones that could result into bad news. They only react to competition. And as the No.1 they can do this and it is pure PR.
Every announcement from them can always be everything or nothing.
E.g. "We believe in generations" => pure marketing speech. There is no promise in it just a thought but the fans interpret much more into this. They didn't lie, but they absolutely knew what their fans would think if they say something like that.

They are the market leader, people know they will deliver and they have nothing to prove.
Their consoles are the best to game on since like PS1.
Nintendo managed to be really successful at times but using a different target group.

Everything is fine, the console will be great, and the games even greater.

Sony have their schedule and they are sticking to it.

Just like pre-orders date right? Yeah very tight schedule. lol

I mean Sony marketing has been on point since the first PS5 news it’s been good news after good news so why would you tight their fantastic marketing strategy right? lol

/Sarcasm

They don’t have a schedule and they are running like headless chickens. Not the first or last articles talking about Sony lack of communication so I would take their word over you random NeoGAF dude defending Sony because your favorite plastic box.

Are you by any chance an Xbox fan? Just asking.

What was wrong with their pre-order date? They gave the date and retailers chose to do their own thing and ignore it. Has nothing to do with Sony.

Let this whole Microsoft/Bethesda deal blow over...why announce or show stuff when all the attention is curently on MS. There's still time left, just chill the fuck out

in this case internet lack of patience is more the problem
or is it this need for click, click, click ?

Lack of patience indeed. How dare they ask for more information less than 45 days to launch for the console they are paying premium for?

Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!
They got early adopters that will buy anything for the next few months anyway (myself included), by then any info will be available to the public as they come out.

That said they sure dropped the ball this gen, last gen they pushed the narrative before launch. This gen it’s a confusing g mess of no info trailer drops and info hidden away on Twitter. People still think Spider man MM is a ps5 only game. Miss leading at best.

They really aren't. Here where I live (Eastern Europe) Xbox is still available in large quantities from every retatiler. PS5 is sold out and sold far more units.
Well in western Europe you can only find an Xbox at Polish Microsoft website at the moment. It's also sold out in the States, Japan, Korea, Australia, etc. So maybe in some countries it's not sold out, that doesn't change my point that these systems sold themselves, and there is no need for Sony to really push for more momentum.

Wow. Some of you Sony "fans" are really drinking the Koolaid if you find this lack of communication acceptable. I have my PS5 on pre-order as their first-party output is a must for me. But the lack of information coming from them compared to Microsoft is appalling. As many of you mentioned, they're sold out of pre-orders already. What's the point of withholding information?

It makes it easier to avoid mistakes. This is not the Andrew house's playstation that was open and transparent who was not afraid of a mistake because they believed in themselves and product. This is secret squirrel Sony who waits for Microsoft to go first to capitalize even if it means bold faced lies. They were for generations before they were against them. Sad thing is they could be open honest and transparent still get 65-70% market share. They did not need to go secret squirrel dishonest route. That is what Andrew house understood they have the best studios in the world. They were going to win big so being open and honest was the best course.

Well I think they did a way better job with PS5 and its communication and how they reveal their console.
It pretty much working without any backslash.

Every time Sony does a event/show about PS5 you know it will be a good thing.

I was pissed at first. But it doesn't matter. If we had a date, the exact time, etc. It would just benefit the botters even more. It's the stores' fault, plain and simple. No Captchas, no limits to stock purchase, etc.

It is annoying by both companies. I will never wish for E3 to go away again since it forces them both to reveal information. We can praise MS for finally allowing their youtubers to show a little bit of something but so far we have mostly seen quick resume videos (something we saw months ago). DF seems to be the only one that has shown some performance on older titles. Yay? Even if MS has no first party titles ready where is some Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay on the Series X? Sony's youtubers better show a little more than... watch me power on the PS5 and two days later, look how fast it loads. I can't wait to see what Xbox youtubers get to show next? The Xbox store?

IMO these details are things enthusiasts like to know about before launch, and it's important, but the mass market doesn't put as much emphasis on these things.

It's a new playstation; the only information people need to know is when the new, more powerful PlayStation, will be released. I know people who preordered and THEN went to see what games were available at launch. No care about OS, launch games, etc before preordering.

Their preorder date in my part of the world was "in 12 hours". Retailers handled it poorly, but Sony didn't even give a day's notice to most of us. That's after promising they wouldn't do specifucally that.

There's no way in hell that wasn't to beat Xbox to opening preorders.

To say there's a 'Lack of communication' is lies and FUD.

Preorders are sold out everywhere, some retailer from UK even said won't be able to send some preordered consoles until next year. And this is producing gaming history record units for a console launch months, PS5 seems to be on track to break the all time gaming history record at least of units sold at launch weekend and launch month.

So if people is buying it at record levels means that Sony made a better job than any other console in gaming history selling it comunicating what was important to make people buy it.

Does someone force people to order PS5 ?

For me personally there's enough information to pre-order.
I don't need to see the UI and complete disassembly video to make a decision.

If there's not enough info for you personally - don't pre-order.

People are getting more whiny and more touchy with every hour now.
Nobody is forced to buy anything.

Think its still fair for people to attempt to be objective about what is and isn't a good console launch.

Each individual has thier own preferences/bias/financial situation. Seems pretty fair to say more information is objectively better than less information.

They are expensive devices with trash launch line ups. To me spending 600+ on a console and game where you haven't even seen it in action yet is absolutely nuts. Then again both consoles are sold out so clearly people are fine with it.

Is asking a waiter questions about the meal they advertise and you wish to purchas, whiny?

Just common sense to know exactly what you are getting before you pay for it.

I guess what bothers me most is that whole cross-gen issue and the lack of communication around the spiderman and horizon games being cross-gen. They always were and Sony always knew so for them to leave that detail out until the last minutes, makes me weary of what else are they obfuscating and why?

That decision hurt them more than it helped. In the end it probably won't matter though. But they're creating their own fud about their own console for no reason.

I’d like some more info on Dolby vision support and audio options. But that’s the best launch lineup in 3 console generations. That means a lot...it’s a video game console

Sure. But when you see zillion of topics "Sony, just let me preorder already" and after preorder started zillion more "Sony is not telling/showng us anything !!!", it's a bit too much.

I think Sony showed quite a lot. Video of Xbox SX assemlby by DF was done with Microsoft blessing because this internal design looks cool. If Sony's internal design is not that sleek, why should they show it ? They have great games, so they focused on games.
Both companies showed their strong points (apart from Halo Infinite) - this is called Marketing.

P.S. Also you don't usually preorder meals.

I still need Sony to tell me if it really does play games. I'll have you know TC, that I only pre-ordered two consoles to show them that they haven't called me directly yet, and it's affecting me emotionally.

Its unlikely those 2 crowds are the same people and if they are they are idiots and kinda irrelevant when it comes to the conversation about being objective.

They have showed very little actually, but have talked a lot about new features. Xbox SX previews are going up all over showing the live console in performance, Sony is not doing the same.
"this is called Marketing." Yes it is. Not all marketing was created equal.

P.s. paying full price for a device/game before you know everything about it is pretty unique to the game industry. A very accurate analogy though with regards to knowing what you are paying for, the usual when it comes to products and services(again game industry is pretty unique in that sense).

Yeah, Sony is the one running around like headless chickens. Not MS without a launch lineup so they're throwing backwards compatibility in everyones face everyday since its the only thing they can actually advertise...

Sony's marketing in fact has been pretty great for the average consumer considering the hype surrounding it. Nobody will care that Sony didnt do a hands on video at the same time as MS once the consoles are out and people are enjoying their time running Demon's Souls, Miles Morales, Sackboy, AC; Valhalla with haptic feedback, 3d audio and instant load times...

I'm convinced that 80% of the people on GAF aren't even clamoring for news because they wanna know what they pre-ordered. They want news for the consoles wars.

Get a fucking grip. Some of you idiots bleed blue or green... there's no reciprocity. Almost like Stockholm syndrome. Jesus.

You guys say it's about the games, and you're 100% right. Sony already discussed their launch line up, so according to that logic, everyone should be satisfied until the thing drops. Unless that "games" spiel is something you tell yourselves so you can sleep better at night.

News will come when it comes.

Owned by Gamer Network, who also own Digital Foundry, VG247, Outside Xbox, Outside Xtra, US Gamer, Eurogamer and others.

All of them have been heavily pro Xbox, at least lately. Some forever.
The conspiracy theories on NeoGAF have been off the charts for the past month. The journalist stated valid concerns and you guys question his integrity. Its really getting pathetic around here.

Yeah but reviews are biased when Xbox games get slammed....

It goes both ways.

It's only an issue for hardcore enthusiasts like us who crave all the details and information for our passion. Even so, most of us probably had our minds made up even before any information was given. Particularly PS fans. I just choose which one I buy first, because I usually end up getting all the systems because I like what they all usually offer. I love many different types of game experiences.. but most casual and even a lot of serious gameplayers I know just go with PlayStation just because. It's the brand. They don't know how much RAM is in the box, they sometimes don't even know about exclusives, but they play Madden, Soul Calibur, GTA and the like and spend 1000s of hours doing so.Those gamers may have bought a 360 last gen simply because the PS3 was really expensive at first, giving MS a major push.

What hes missing in that article is that people dont care. They are buying a PS5 no matter what. Thats what fans do.

Like the next COD, their fans wont wait for reviews or be swayed in their opinion to buy every cod. Its just how it works.

it’s not only about the lack of communication. It’s also about spreading lies.
Anyone remember this:

If MS pulled something like they would be hammered, but since it’s Sony it’s easily forgotten. Hypocrisy.

Honestly, what are you talking about? Why would PS5 games be playable on PS4? Why would MS or anybody else be hammered for saying that? Should Gamecube games be playable on N64?

"We believe in generations, and that's all we've got to say about that."

Four months go by in complete silence...

"Yes our games are cross-gen. Yes, we announced it five minutes after our digital showcase in a blog post. But we haven't once said they WON'T be cross-gen. Where's the lie?!"

Come on. It's a lie by omission. They don't need to flat out say "our games aren't going to be on PS4 any longer" for it to be obvious what they were doing. At any point, while Microsoft were getting flak for doing the same thing, they could've announced it. But they didn't.

And why did it matter so much that people are now ignoring that incredibly obvious move to say "they didn't lie"?

Even if they didn't, and that's a hypothetical if because they absolutely did, how they handled this was shady as hell.
Its one on those "technically, i didnt lie" type things. They just said "generations", let the internet buzz about it for months without correcting themselves, then was like "you guys said that, not us", when forced. Typical corporate pr move.

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
You sound triggered to me.

I don't remember you from any of these threads, but then again I struggle to remember how many people I own in these threads.

According to who? Your imaginary friends?

You sound just as arrogant as the company you worship.

Sony has won the race, and will probably win next. And its only for the hardcore players the exclusives matter for. The majority of gamers, which are not fanboys, buy a PS5 because they want to play gta fifa and cod. Most of them don't give a shit about god of war or the last of us 2.

Multi plays always sells more. And Sony doesn't really care about your shining Knight defensive stance, they only care about your money.

Like Microsoft and Nintendo wants. Neither is your friend but fanboys acts like its your first crush and are obsessed with sticking to them.

How much patience do you want us to have when the entire marketing process for this thing has been a clusterfuck and spaced out too far from each other? And this is Push Square we’re talking about it so don’t even try the whole “Xbot hating muh Sony!” Thing
