I was gonna defend them but it has been several days and they shot out a video in seconds when MS tweeted a picture the Series X's APU
Even the PS5 reveal reaction from DF was a bit slow to come out.
The Teardown Video does show a lot of stuff people like DF would be really interested in so it is a bit odd for them to be literally the only outlet to not even mention it
I wouldn't say they was biased, D dark10x isn't
But they have been a bit slow on the Playstation side of stuff, I'm sure it'll come eventually
I can understand that people want to hear their opinions.
But there are a few others out there that has already done it so is it worth it?

True bias would have been shown if DF got invited to Sony to review and teardown the PS5 and they refused to report it. Does anyone really think that would have happened?

I think it's worth it. I figure they can easily get 300-500k views in a week or so.
The longer they don't make one the stranger it looks, as these digital media outlets live on clicks and views.

What could DF really offer anyway? we all saw what was done and read the closed captions explaining it so I don't think there is much to cover.

What I am saying, without being specific purposefully is that they create issue by not doing the same consistent approach to statements and also analysis on both sides of the console fence.
By failing to do this, it creates an appearance of bias one way or the other. Picking and choosing when to be in depth on something for one and not nearly as in depth on the other is bad form. They can avoid the issue by taking the same exact approach to analysis every time like RTINGS.com does with what they do would lead to a much more balanced and respected Site overall.

well, someone pointed out the DRAM in the PS5s SSD which improves I/O performance even further. Also, an added expense over DRAM-less drives. Then, after comparing, it turns out series x SSD doesn’t have it. Just an example of how it is news that is relevant to the industry all came from the images from the video.

I'm one of those that see this as a positive development. If DF doesn't want to make a video due to whatever reason or takes a long time...... the less the traffic from unsuspecting PlayStation consumers feeding their pockets? Common sense that's what will happen. Plus you get threads like this... bad press with a large chunk of your market that's already wary of motives and bias (whether you believe that to be true or not is of no consequence - it's reality).
Moreover it's not like Sony needs the exposure of a single isolated channel. That teardown is the most viewed, talked and shared teardown of all time to date. It should be DF's prerogative to be incentivized to do a video soon and on-time to catch the news cycle? As for the suggestion that Sony should have sent them freebies, flown them all expenses paid to the PlayStation Campus etc.... lmao... since when are access bribes encouraged? Is this what we're pushing for in the age of influencers? Looks to me like DF will get access to the PS5 when Sony sends a review console to Eurogamer, just like any other outlet. Till then, they'll have to do with what everyone else gets.
People do have options these days...and like I've said before, having more venues for analysis is good, like NxGamer and others. Other channels found a lot of interesting areas to talk about - and it's not like there is a creative glut when it comes to speculation and embellishment of new tech and consumer electronics. The more the merrier. Monopolies are not good.
As for PlayStation fans and others feeling some type of way about the comments. Don't let anybody shame you on what you believe. If you smell BS, it's more than probable that it's BS. Ethomaz and Bo got banned for bringing some stuff to light in ways mods did to not believe make for best discussion - and that's OK. Do not however become discouraged by that by failing to make your opinions known, make threads etc. Not every forum member is a journalist by trade, with expertise on best practices. Posters post and debate with emotions of their sleeves very often and some don't even possess full control of the English language.. so a lot is lost in translation...the small subtleties.

This right here. I think Sony’s success has gotten to their heads where they think that just because they were in the lead of this generation they feel like they don’t need to make much effort in anything as much because people regardless will still buy the PS5. I mean yeah that’s correct because obviously I’m getting the PS5 but that doesn’t mean I won’t be critical over their flaws.I don't see why Digital Foundry has to upload content you decide, otherwise it's "videos nobody cares about" and they are paid Microsoft shills.
I'm sure if Sony had sent a PS5 to DF, or even invited them to test one, you'd have just as many videos as about the Xbox Series X - which they actually have. Instead Sony prioritized the opinion of this guy;

And that's due to Sony! People get on about how much DF "shills" for Microsoft, AMD, Nvidia, etc, but the main thing is they are the companies sending them the hardware! Meanwhile Sony has been silent and thought that a bunch of Japanese YouTubers/vTubers and Tik-Tokers were more important to show the PS5 to.

What's more baffling to me are people blaming DF for a lack of video rather than Sony themselves for not sending a single PS5 for people to report on. If Sony did, DF would have done videos on size, noise, and test backwards compatible games just like they are doing with Xbox.
Has it occurred to anybody that, maybe just maybe, Sony doesn't want these type of comparison videos to be made before launch?

Him calling a tear down video uninteresting is just a cop out. Any tear down of a next gen console will be interesting, we literally learned new information that DF can give their thoughts about.

Don’t think you should compare a teardown to one of the first reveal videos. Compare this to the PS5 reveal which has 33m views.

While they have no obligation to drop what they are doing to post a long video on this teardown, I'm quite surprised they have not even posted a short video discussing it.
Check out this video from Dave Lee, posted roughly 6 hours after Sony dropped their video.
You think Dave doesn't have other things he's working on too? This teardown video was the biggest thing to happen in regards to the PS5 in months, and DF essentially ignoring it is odd.

Making money in the online media space is volatile, so when an opportunity comes along to do so you take it. They don't need a PS5 to make a quick opinion vid.
This is literally money on the table they are passing up, for whatever reason we can only speculate.

There are plenty. The reasons I purposely will not provide examples are that 1) There are plenty of examples if you google for them. 2). Providing examples tends to create spin off console fanboy based derivatives I don’t want to engage in.

This goes beyond new gen. This Happened in the current and soon to end gen, the gen before as well.
Ill say this as well, they’ve been analyzing videos provided to them on new gen. The issue is when they choose to zoom in and look at every detail on one side but do not do the same analysis of another game the same way, zooming in etc. every single time regardless of game or console.
It is a bad look to not be consistent every game analyzed Every time. It creates a narrative for bias that shouldn’t exist.

But that doesnt mean people would not be interested in hearing what Digital Foundry as a tech centric channel has to say about the PS5 hardware which is quite apperant . And the tear down shows a lot about the ps5 we did not know previously like the dram chip for the ssd or the liquid metal as TIM or the way the system draw air in and the list goes on.
They drive them away just to complain that they went away.
I would not be surprised to learn that the amount of complaining by Sony fans had a real life Impact on DF's relationship with Sony.

Everytime I hear complaints about Digital Foundry it's always because of this individual. I personally believe that Alex is the problem and not Digital Foundry. I never seen this type of behavior with John and Richard for example.

If MS had a premium SSD controller they would have showed it. Anyway we know this from the CV of the guy at Phison who actually designed it (the dram-less, 4 channels, PS5019-E19):

Honestly, Sony probably feels they don't need them. Which is why they didn't bother to send one. DF probably knows this too. Maybe that affected their decision on whether or not to make a vid.
