Not sure where the cost is coming from on 4 button thing with a touch bar, but hey, guess it's a hobby.
Proprietary controller made for only (one) game (on the switch anyway) that sold out almost instantly. I think these were around 300-400 on the Hori website (Japan) but you know...scalping prices and demand. I hate Sega for never having these available in the states. It is not like people don't buy em either. They are fun to use though don't get me wrong but goddamn over time these cost as much as next gen consoles.

Interesting controller. Probably for some kind of rhythm / dance game I can only guess

Did you just spend 700 dollars on a mini controller son?

nope not as much as that as i got it from an amazon japan marketplace seller. I did have to pay over retail for it, it was pretty expensive & i could have bought a next gen console for the cost. Hell the shipping alone was £130. However your speaking to the person who ended up buying hori's pro taiko no tatsujin controller so this isn't my first rodeo in extravagant importing lol. Love rhythm games just sad that nowadays none of the major arcade ones come to consoles i'd die for a home version of sound voltex heavenly haven.

Thnks to the new controller converter i picked up i can connect this to a wii remote and sync it with my switch to bring it to the newest version of taiko no tatsujin.

Figures I mean, it's Hatsune Miku. Kind of stupid to not increase production on them then, unless it's just not possible. But then again if they're fairly durable you might still be able to recoup the costs to a large extent later by selling it if they retain their value long enough.

They were made to order by Hori they were supposed to be bought direct from them, the one i got was from someone who ordered to resell it which ironically is the only time i have ever been thankful of a reseller lol. Hori are pretty strict with non Japan buyers even having a middleman shipper wont work as they just cancel your order if it looks like a middleman shipper address so it's harder to get hold of than usual. There have been only 2 small preorder windows so far for people to order them and they only make as many as they get orders for before the window closes mine was 47 out of 1310 not sure if there will be a 3rd production run but these things are stupidly limited edition so it will hold it's value hell the taiko pro controller is testament to that. This controller feels amazing the buttons are arcade ones and it's built solid the entire thing weighs 3kg as it's mostly metal.

Be sure to not use the headphone jack on it for audio, have the game directly connected to a receiver/amp. (you prob already do this) I have the same set up but on the ps4 version, when I tried the Switch version the audio lag was very noticeable running to the telly alone. My mini controller sorta sticks (I have the Future Tone one) so I was looking into eventually building my own meself.

Yes, the DIVA games. Although the recently released ones are just arcade ports.

That doesn't seem like much of a bad deal then tbh, the resell market for it (in case you'd even want to) should be large enough even in the West. Had no idea this even existed or how the order process even works, interesting info, thanks. That Heavenly Haven game looks pretty crazy, nice music too, I'd try that if they ever made a console version.

On the switch version there's an option to calibrate the lag timing so if i have my headphones plugged into the audio input on the controller i can sync it in again. Not sure if future tone has the same option but so far it seems to work i haven't noticed any major lag issues.

The Switch version is the exact same thing except it is missing songs the 4 has (more expensive dlc as well, thanks Sega) and has the shader from Negaposi Continues on every song. The latency is around 6-9ms or so, but like you said you can adjust it yourself or just plug it to a amp.

So what’s everyone playing? I’m currently taking a little bit of a break from 3D Mario so I don’t get too sick of it - focusing on Super Mario World instead on the Switch plus a bit of Streets Of Rage, while on PC I’m having my first proper play through of Baldurs Gate 1 (I hit all the big RPGs last year - KOTOR 1/2, Mass Effect 1/2/some-of-3, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Disco Elysium and others) but haven’t done a proper old school top down RPG. Might get back to FF7 on Switch once I’ve done BG1/2 (unless 3 is finished by then) and of course Cyberpunk is coming up.

Animal Crossing, Pokemon Shield (solely for shiny breeding/hunting), Mario 3-D All Stars.

I got Xenoblade: DE on my backlog along with BotW DLC which I finally bought.

I spent way too much time shiny hunting in Pokemon.

Okay, I’d heard these were great, so I scrolled past it on YouTube, and gave it the privilege of auto-playing.

Within a couple of minutes it was manually full-screened and 1080p’d, lol.

This is just really awesome in every way, and I need to check out the other shorts.

I like how Nintendo was printed on the bottom of the soda bottle. Nice touch.

This makes me feel a little guilty about all the pikmin I've killed though...

Curious to see what the TendieGaf perspective is on this.

I am having a literally impossible time choosing. Both are two of Nintendo’s all-time masterpieces.

Really hard, but it's BOTW. It dropped just as open world games were getting stale and it knocked it out of the park so hard that it effectively revitalized the genre and became the standard not only for that kind of design, but for video games overall. It's easier to find bones to pick with Odyssey, BOTW detractors usually sound like retards (there are valid criticisms as well, obviously, just saying it's rarer).

Both are masterpieces. Amazing that Ninty delivered them back to back.

They're both really good, but I don't think either is nearly the best that those series have to offer. Both have the same problem, which is bloat. A lot of it. I think Odyssey is worse in this regard, because having so many moons to collect actually made me less inclined to be a completionist. Actually, I never actually finished the game - I stopped on the last level. I found myself scrolling through endless lists of moons and didn't bother with most of them because they just sounded tedious. I'd rather play Galaxy. And DEFINTELY 3D World. But I still enjoyed the time I spent playing Odyssey.

BOTW, on the other hand, just feels a little too aimless at times. That works for some people, but not for me. 2D Zeldas still have overwhelmingly better design, as far as I'm concerned. Again, still liked it... just not as much as I wanted to. It runs circles around other open-world games.

Anyway, between Odyssey and BOTW, I'll go with BOTW, because the "OMG there's too much video game here," worked better than it did in Odyssey.

And I'd also take into account that they essentially reinvented Zelda with BotW, which took a lot of guts, A LOT of guts with how this fanbase is.

It was something I was hoping for ever since the Gamecube. Back when the Wind Waker launched, everyone knocked the artstyle but the disappointing thing for me was mostly that it was just too safe from a gameplay perspective. It just kept getting worse from there, TP was too safe and traversal very restrictive, Skyward Sword was by far the worst of the bunch and focused on all the things that mattered the least to me in a Zelda game and so, BotW (and to a lesser extent, a Link Between Worlds) saved the franchise for me.

But again that's just me, I know a lot of people love SS and so on but it just wasn't for me.

These little shorts are absolutely amazing, and in line with classic earlier 20th century cartoons. Not a surprise, seeing as I remember Miyamoto being heavily involved, but imo, these are a must-watch for Pikmin fans, and utterly delightful.

Actually, that's a good point. The balls it must've taken to greenlight this approach to Zelda must be too large for conventional pants.

It looks like the pins are back in stock. Not sure if the mission page is generating new codes yet though.

Anyone here played Mekorama? It looks like a Captain Toad clone - seems to have a certain charm. Down from £4.49 to £2.70.

Little question about Zelda BotW. I'm still early on, but one thing I've noticed is that the characters in the game will sometimes tell you something about how to complete a quest, but it doesn't get stored in your journal the way it would in other games.

For instance, you may remember an early sidequest involving Manny the suspicious stable boy and his crush on Purna or Prina (I forget her name), who runs the desk at the local inn. I'm supposed to talk to Prina and get info about her favorite thing, so I can tell Manny what it is, and he can go out and buy it for her. I'm not sure this is a great idea, because Manny seems a little weird, the way he sits there with his sour face and "checks out" every one passing by. But I figure, that's the sidequest, so I'll go along.

I talk to Prina. She tells me what she really likes. Like a typical guy, I'm not paying attention -- something about a plant? I figured the info would be stored in my journal as the next step in the quest, like it is in most games, but it wasn't. The journal just says I have to talk to Prina to get the info. I do that again, but she gives me no dialog options related to that. She just talks about room rates. So now I'm stuck.

Either this is a glitch, which I doubt, or I should have written down the info she gave me, because the game isn't necessarily going to store it. Is that the case? It's been a while since I took notes on game quests, but I'm up for it, if that's how the game works.

I'm fairly sure those should appear in your Adventure log. The main quest should be there but also any side quests if I remember correctly.

I don't see anything there, besides what I mentioned (it keeps prompting me to do something I already did and can't repeat), but I'll check again and report back if I find anything different. Otherwise, Manny is out of luck.

Just posted the below in the Mario 128 thread (go check it out, good video) but wanted to share my thoughts here as well. I've been thinking about this a lot lately especially in regards to Halo Infinite.

Good video. Somewhat related but it really bothers me when people attribute often attribute Miyamoto's "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad" to the every day sort of delays we see in the industry. Often times we see games get delayed, sometimes we end up with The Witcher III, Persona 5, or Bioshock other times we end up with Duke Nuke 'Em Forever or Perfect Dark Zero. Sometimes games just need to be canned or completely restarted. Nintendo doesn't succumb to the sunk cost fallacy. They'll not only delay games but cancel them entirely if they fail to come together in a way that satisfies them. Nintendo has even cancelled games that were complete-Star Fox 2 sat complete and unreleased for 25 years. Not every developer is brave enough to make the decision to cancel or restart development and sadly in many cases cannot afford to.

Even when Nintendo was in rough shape with the Gamecube and Wii U they still made the choice to delay and massively retool games like Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild. Even Nintendo's "rushed" titles like Wind Waker and Super Mario Sunshine are still incredibly polished and revered games. It is rare that they miss.

Nintendo has scrapped and cancelled a ton of games. They often avoid having to publicly cancel games as it is rare that they announce or talk about games until they feel confident in the game's concept. We know about games like Mario 128, Fire Emblem 64, and Giant Robot but there are so many more that never saw a public announcement. I cannot even imagine how many concepts have been scrapped that we don't know anything about.

Yeah, absolutely no way Ninty would let Infinite go public like that, I mean look at what they did with Prime 4. Ninty is like a clutch player, when they badly need a hit, they deliver it spectacularly. They have a bad tendency to rest on their laurels a bit and just coast a bit when things are going well, but when their backs are against the wall they fight like absolute champs.

I'm thinking I must be taking the wrong approach in Zelda, because I keep getting myself in over my head. I get too into the exploration aspect, and I try to reach far outlying districts, but I'm terribly underleveled, so it's not long before I encounter beasties that slay me in one hit, mountains too high to climb, weather conditions too harsh, or puzzles that are too time-consuming to mess with. I've decided I need to restrain my exploratory impulses and focus on the earlier, simpler territories for now.

I've also watched some "tips" videos, although I initially intended not to. I wanted to figure out the game completely by myself, but the lack of explanation was adding to the annoyance related to what I mentioned above (all the dying, obstacles, etc.). I wanted to understand a little more about the mechanics, rather than fumbling around so much and not understanding things. I'm avoiding the more in-depth spoilerish videos, but I feel like I could use a few pointers about some of subtler mechanics of the game.

If it's too hard then it is preferable to focus on main quest first before venturing around.

Basically the quality of loot obtained in the wild will increase the more you kill the enemies, it's always high risk high pay game so it's normal to die a lot early in the game.

Eventually you'll get more hearts, good gears/weapons and special skills. Though mastering parry/flurry, shield reflects, one shot gyro bow flick and mostly positioning are what the true level up is.

Good players can survive just with 3 hearts and a stick for example, well at least on surviving.

I'm sure you'll get to it soon, just take it slow and not push too far unless you're ready.

I would suggest watching some speedruns just for fun, you could learn a lot just from watching.

Massive delays to completely restart development or massively rework are game are not something most developers can afford to do. Nintendo has even managed to pull it off when they are in a tight spot and slow sales such as Wind Waker/Twilight Princess on the GameCube and Breath of the Wild on the Wii U.

Pikmin 3 demo could be a Spatoon 2 demo situation, iirc that also had lower resolution than the final game.

Can't see it ending up worse than the Wii U game.

I don't know how much Nintendo looks into the desires of online communities but you'd have to assume that they do.

You've got a lot of people who just want the Wii U exclusives on Switch. There has been quite a lot of demand for these since the console was launched. People wanted Xenoblade X and Pikmin 3 and 3D Land and could we get wind waker HD and Twilight Princess HD etc etc. So Nintendo does exactly that. Here is the game. Now on Switch.

Thats exactly where the "lazy Nintendo" critics come in though and start on about how the games haven't been upgraded or whatever. It's too late at that point and also it tends to be criticism from folks who are either going to buy anyway or who were never going to buy.

For what it's worth I never played Pikmin 1 or 2 and I downloaded the demo for 3 and thought it looks like being a pretty solid game that looks good and has a strong and distinctive style. It is kind of obviously a Wii game that was delayed for Wii U. At least I think so. I played that whole demo using the joy-con as a pointer and can't imagine this was not intended to be played using the wii mote.

I tend to think that Nintendo is almost in a no win situation when it comes to online gaming communities. Like with 3D All Stars you've got this clamour with people wanting to play the classic games on the latest hardware and it's getting hyped for months but as soon as they announce there's a different crowd who takes over the conversation and just starts moaning about prices or emulation or graphics.

Not having a go at you personally.

For me the game looks fine but I confess to not being really that fussed about graphics.
