I've told you I had a 2080Ti and the 3090 is the only worthwhile upgrade to it.

I'm not "going after" you. I'm posting that your claim of the 3080 being the best card while an even faster card is available is incorrect.
You make a goading post then claim the victim when you get your expected response.

By the way. I'm buying two 3090's and not 1.
So you weren't after power back then. Got ya

Hopefully not to sli them:

But wouldn't surprise me for one bit 😂

Folks sell your 3080, it wasn't a worthy upgrade over a 2080ti. Nvidia please cancel 3070, it's even more useless

I tried some 8k far on my 4k monitor and the difference is minimal. Almost not there.
White doing 4k dsr on 1080p monitor was huge
Of course the difference is minimal to you; your display doesn't have the requisite number of pixels to make the real difference perceptible.

1080p monitors also did not had huge amount of pixels but 4k dsr looked amazing on it. Almost as good as real 4k (that I have now)

Downsampled resolution will never look as good as native. That's impossible.
fucking christ nobody said it does but that it improves the quality !!!!!! cmon let me go. I was downsampling pc gta iv in like 2012 because the game had no antialiasing at all.
I am the biggest 4k adopter. I have a 4k 27" monitor, had 1080p 27" for years too. It looks the same from some distance. 4k shines in better anti aliasing and detail up close

I even compared 27" 4k and 1080p monitors (1080p monitor with 4k downsampling) and these looked very close unless You moved very very close to the screen.
of course if You have more detailed game like Dark Souls 3, the difference is bigger. That's why I am using 4k screen since I was using 4k dsr on 1080p monitor all the time to get rid of aliasing. With real 4k screen I get that + detail up close

Aha! You're experiencing 4K on a display that's too small to convey the additional detail that the resolution offers relative to lower resolutions. As resolution increases, screen size should increase as well; if screen size remains constant, then the sizes of pixels will become smaller and smaller until additional details become imperceptible or barely perceptible.

On a screen that's at least 40" large, 4K looks significantly better than 1080p. You need a larger display; get yourself a 40" 4K display or larger.

Just my opinion but I think PC screens that are bigger than 27" just signal that you actually prefer Console/Couch-Gaming-Style instead of sit-infront-pc gaming.
I game on 2 24" screens and I'm completely fine with that size. A friend has 27" 1440p and honestly, it's good as long as you only have 1 screen. The moment you get a 2nd screen, you'd have to physically move your head to see from 1 screen to the other. If not then you're sitting so far away anyway that you won't even see a difference between 1440p and 1080p anymore, same goes for 4k.

I use a 55" 4K TV as my monitor and sit as close to it as I would sit relative to an actual monitor. So, I don't agree with you.

Pardon my words but that's just insane.
I wouldn't be able to stand it to sit that close to my 55" inch TV all day long when gaming and even less so when playing games with flashy effects like shooters etc.

You sit ~2ft from your tv? But why? o_O

As an aside, my 4k display is 27". I like the pixel density for gaming. Windows makes desktop work a bit of a pain, tho. Everything teeny tiny.

At this screen size, imagery is immersive because it fills much more of your peripheral vision; it's amazing. Also, the sheer size of imagery makes it more impactful than it would be on smaller screens. Think of IMAX.

This is my setup.

So now that we know AMD's biggest offering will come slightly below 3080 (source is their 8th oct event), are we sure that 20GB 3080 is coming? Any update on that?

We are actually not sure that what was shown was AMD's biggest offering. There's a significant chance that it isn't.

The 20GB is definitely coming though. It's the price you should be worried about.

Yes, you are correct in saying that downsampled 4K doesn't look half bad on a good 1080p monitor.

It's gonna come. As to when? Who knows? I for one am glad that all the 3080s and 3090s have sold out, as it has completely made me at peace with waiting to upgrade from 2080 Ti. In fact the only reason I wanted to upgrade so I could take advantage of HDMI 2.1.

A significant chance ? No way. What they showed were cherry picked 3 games where they had the absolute best results, in who knows what conditions. Matching or exceeding the 3080 would mean amd made a 2.3 times improvement over their last card. Has that ever happened ? I think not

And I can tell you it feels great to finally be able to use 4K 120Hz 10 bit on a QLED/OLED. :lollipop_grinning:

It would be a smashing success if it ends up with performance between the 3070 and 3080 at the $400 price point.
More than likely it will be a $500 card, which is 3070 level, maybe a bit faster, which is what I am expecting, which would make it a card that treads water, which the 5700 and 5700XT did. Good cards with slightly better performance than nvidia's priced cards, but not world beating or game changing. The 5700XT is $400 and beat the 3060 Super in pretty much every game and came close in some instances to the $500 2070 Super. AMD would be fine if they got that, but it would not excite anyone.

AMD probably would show the best only but who knows. Also, I do have a few options for buying 3080s. Will get them at around 30-50USD above MSRP but I really want to get one before Cyberpunk. Though I could control and maybe wait till early December. Does it seem likely that 3080 20GB will come by that time? I dont want to wait till next year. Got some time because of work from home till Jan and would like to use it :p

You better let go of that dream right now. Nvidia has made it clear that there will be shortages until 2021. Any available stock will be pretty scalped up. Not to say it can't happen, but its extremely unlikely you will be able to get one in early December, regardless of whether you can control yourself.
There is pretty much no way a 20GB will be available by early December. Maybe if Big Navi blows the doors off they might be able to get some by next year.

Not only that and Nvidia may not give a shit, but I seriously doubt that they would openly piss off the few that bought a 10GB version right now and release a 20GB version.
I would love for it to happen since it would wreck the scalpers margins.
3070 benchmarks likely next week?
No. It's not due out until the last week of October. Reviews will probably go live, the day of or the day before.

Hardware Unboxed didn't have access to the premium models when they made that assertion, did they?
In terms of bang for buck, it is THE card to get and has an MSRP of $700. It handily beats more expensive cards in terms of value.

It's pretty much irrelevant since they're all sold out anyway.

Thankfully I am not in Europe or US. I am in India and just today I was able to see 3 different 3080s available through an offline retailer, though only one of them was close to official MSRP. Some websites are also saying that more stock will be available here on 19th Oct.
Assuming that I am able to get one and at a somewhat close to MSRP price, do you think it will be a good card that may last me for at least 3 years? I am targeting 4K and above 40fps at least.

The 3070 is likely within 5% of a 2080Ti. If you really think that Big Navi is going to meet the performance of a 3070, a.k.a. merely matching a 2080Ti, you've got another thing coming.

They will definitely undercut nVidia, simply because they don't have any mindshare on the GPU front. Currently, more people are busy trying to get a 3080 rather than waiting what AMD is going to bring to the table. They have to turn heads, or they will be once again be ignored, relatively speaking.

i dont think anyone would be pissed since the 20 gb version will be 1000 dollars. And 3rd party cards all the way to 1200 and 1300. Why would anyone be pissed ? The vast majority will buy the 10 gig anyway

I'd wait and see what happens with Big Navi. Im waiting for at least a 16GB card of some sort before I consider upgrading my 2080 Ti.

If the leaked specs are real, it is not out of the realm of possibility. The success of Ryzen has enabled AMD to invest more into the GPU front, so it's possible. I would not bet money on it blowing the doors off, but I am not dismissing anything.
My prediction is that it will be another treading water card like the 5700XT, a card that is better than nvidias similarly priced card, but not something that excites people and demands a switch.

Huh ok now that sucks.
Played around in Control with RTX and DLSS. While DLSS does a really great job for the most part, there is one major flaw.
RTX reflections on the ground are very noisy. Meaning they "move", even when you're standing still. Turning off DLSS fixes it.

I'm not sacrificing all that performance for reflections that are just wrong. Shame.

I'm happy it works out for you and your experience benefits from this! =)
But for me, that would be seizure inducing. Like I said, I might go to 27" once GPUs are fast enough to do 240Hz@1440p but I'll most likely never go beyond that, even with 4k.
I'm already quite happy with my 1080p 24" screens, but that's PC gaming! Everybody gets to play the way he likes it!! :)

How is it straight lie when you can do exactly what they advertised ? Sure, they sugared it up a bit, they all do. Doom Eternal straight up runs at 8k at 60 frames. The fact that it was a bit of a nonsense doesnt make it a lie.

Nvidia also had a bunch of recent, popular games that people actually play in their initial presentation. Sure they picked the one that had the biggest performance uplift, but that doesnt make it a lie. AMD when showing their cpu slides they had what ? Counter Strike, DOTA, League of Legends, Formula 1 ???? Wuuuut ? They cherry picked so hard games that show the biggest difference that they chose games that run well on potato laptops from 10 years ago.

Then they continued the cherry pick by showing three !!!?? games for navi, which again, we can asume almost 100% that are the 3 absolute 1%-ers for their card, the anomalies that run the absolute best. They will not have a card that can compete with a 3080, nevermind a 3090.

This is a false assumption. I game on a 38" ultrawide and for me personally it's better than playing on a TV. Also I don't have to move my head like you suggest, I only sit 2ft away max.

Was gonna post in the other PC thread, but since this is nvidia related; are nvidia drivers backwards compatible?

Wanted to benchmark my 980Ti, but already uninstalled it, installed the GTX 1080Ti, and downloaded the most up-to-date drivers for the GTX 1080Ti.

Translated: Norwegian online store reveals RTX 30-crisis

The online store Proshop is "fed up" by the uncertainties surrounding RTX 3080 availability, and now reveals how many cards they have received and how many are expected. These are not positive numbers.

Over 85 percent are still waiting for cards
Comparing how few new cards are on the way in, and how few the store has received, and it is clear that the market will not be saturated this year.

Thousands of cards have been ordered, but only a few hundred have been received where 111 is the largest number, and that is Gigabyte's 3080 Gaming OC, followed by the RTX 3080 Ventus from MSI.

There are thousands of orders for Asus cards that cannot be filled
There are a number of cards they have never received any of, and the very few are of Gigabyte's Aorus Master, where they only got 12, have four on the way in and have 28 orders. This was the situation this weekend, Prohop has updated its numbers, and we have entered them below.

To give a different picture of the situation in the US, we are on a waiting list dated September 20 (for four cards), which should be an ok place in the queue at EVGA, but we have still not been notified of the possibility of guaranteed advance booking as they now has added up.

Not surprisingly, Asus' TUF cards are the most popular, as these cards have the best components.

And 3070: Zeroes across the board..

Nvidia sure was in a hurry to launch on paper.. Logistics was obviously not considered an important part of it. Shameful.

The 3080 an amazing card but my overclocking addicted self is kinda sad. The gains are just so minimal that the fun is gone.
Will do some 3D Mark runs tonight and see how far I can push it, just out of curiosity. The fps gains so far were underwhelming.

Youre missing the point.

They show those games because competitive gamers are buying intel to play them, not because they are hard to run.

Nvidias marketing has been complete fud and amd doesnt need to fully match a 3080.
Just come within 10% performance difference, while costing less and consuming less.

Won't be easy for AMD.
