The larger win on Sony’s part is how integrated the UI appears to be with its games. A video guide system without having to youtube some “yO iTs Yo boI SprinKle TitTIeS!!1! Before I tell you how to complete this don’t forget to smash that like button and subscribble!!1!” Is already a huge plus imo.
That's locked behind PS+, and also only for "select games" where developers have gone through the effort to make videos etc. Going by history of things like this, don't expect it to be used outside of first party games.

If it’s snappier than the current (or prior UI now I guess?) than I really don’t care. It’s just thumbnails and some letters, who cares?

If you think Devs are actually going to take the time to implement this I have bad news for you

Just one word: embarrassing.

And I’m no fanboy
I see you writing these words, but they're saying otherwise.

Nothing embarrassing at all about choosing to give developers more RAM for games instead of rendering a few squares in 4x the resolution for literally zero benefit.

Not surprised. The UI needs parity with the Xbox One. It’s easier to scale a UI up than it is to down scale a UI.

I wouldn't mind 720p if it meant the dashboard was super snappy with quick loading of the store. Can't stand slow and laggy menu's I want to be there for as little time as possible. If Sony can do both more props to them, but I am not willing to sacrifice snappiness for 4K menus, especially not when you could use the systems RAM for Quick Resume.

Series S I understand as it just doesn't have power, but the X? Makes little sense. I expect them (Microsoft) to push out a day one 4K patch for the Series X.
Xbox Series S does have enough power to run a 4K UI PS4 Pro has a 4K UI I think they are just trying to figure out the best way of going about things.

Then I'm not understanding the point of your original question I responded to. Was there a point?

I also clearly addressed that in my edit. I know you read it as you quoted it.

Actually it wasn't there when I replied but when I added my quote that's when your edit came into the post.

The point is exactly what I said , its funny that the company that specialize in making a OS is the one having issues getting their UI in 4K while the other company is doing it while a game is being played in 4K with extra bells & whistles.

You sound like someone who would continue to make excuses even if it turns out games will not be in 4k.

If Sony did this, I would be livid, just for the record.

Im just now finding out that the PS4 Pro movies in the store are only available in 1080p. No UHD 4k options.
xbone x has uhd versions though.

Well I'd be fucking pissed about this. The real issue of the thread has arrived. No UHD 4K movies on PS4 Pro? WTF.

I've have purchased tons of movies on Xbox Movies & TV and watch them on various devices from the same account e.g. X1X, XB1, Surface, Win10 desktop. I'd be real upset at note being able to view high quality movies. Xbox/Azure have brilliant delivery with high IQ and framerates for their moves.

What?

The UI was 1080p in Xbox One X by design, because it freed up 1GB more RAM for devs/gaming compared to a 4k dash.

If they are sticking with 1080p on the UI again for now, and there's no evidence this is final, then it's for the same reason.

Which would mean that Sony somehow came up with a better solution for running a 4K UI than Microsoft who make OS. Sony added a 4K UI to PS4 Pro by just adding more memory to the secondary processor.

Just curious since you seem to enjoy pitting the two consoles against one another, would it be funny if we find that Series X has a tangible performance benefit due to increased ram allocated to games running? Your attempt to "make fun" (for a lack of a better term) of MS is premature.

To be clear, I don't know this to be true. Just extrapolating based on the known fact that 1080p rendering usually requires less resources.

SMH I'm not making fun of the 1080P UI I'm saying that it's funny that MS who make Windows is having a issue getting the UI into 4K while Sony was able to do it on PS4 Pro & now doing it with PS5 while adding other stuff to the UI. PS5 has 2GB of DRAM on the motherboard by the Flash Controller so maybe they didn't need the extra GDDR6 memory for the OS in fact Xbox Series X has like 6GB of GDDR6 put aside why wouldn't they have enough RAM for a 4K UI? it's clearly they are having trouble working out some things right now.

O onQ123 I would rather not post this in another thread as I'm sure it would derail it. What is your thoughts on cpu resource allocation for the features Sony is bringing to PS5 UI. Back in 2013 MS introduced the ability to snap apps but eventually discontinued the feature to free up ram and cpu cycles. As we all know the X1 needed all the power it could get to even attempt performance parity with PS4. Do you think Sony will find itself in a similar position in the future, or are they close enough in power where the difference will be nominal, even with the pip activated?

You're conflating design decisions with memory management issues.

I'm thinking the SSD & the modified CU is making media processing lite work like the Cell did for PS3 also there is co-processors in AMD GPU/APU for multi media stuff I don't think this is taking much away from games.

Nah I don't think 1080P UI in a 4K console is a design decision , from the sound of things they told people not to worry about it which sounds like they will be updating to 4K UI. maybe they will use AI to upscale it since it's just a UI.

Microsoft set aside 1 GB of ram so the dashboard could be 4k but the game devs said they could use that 1 GB for games so Microsoft made the decision to do 1080p dash and let the game devs have the extra GB to use

As a Playstation fan I can honestely say: who gives a crap??

It's just the dashboard. It will still look stunning. And if really that many people want it they can still patch it.
I understand that most just want a total 4K experience (nothing wrong with that) but those who bitch the most about it are most likely just salty fanboys.

I think you're right. I wasn't aware of the 2 gb dram, so I learned me something.

I have no doubt that Microsoft broached the idea of pumping the UI to 4K, they then looked at the ram requirements and decided not to. You alluded to this as well. They could choose a cleaner UI or better performance on games.

I would define that decision as a console design decision. 4K ui it's just not currently in the cards. I believe this is as much of an issue, as the series x only being 12 teraflops versus 15 tf. Of course it's possible, but at what cost. Part of building a $500 box, is making smart concessions to get the most bang for your buck. Thats why I push back on them being called "issues". I think we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one.

MS added 4GB going from 8GB on Xbox One to 12GB on Xbox One X while keeping the 1080P UI Sony added like 756MB of DDR3 to the secondary chip & was able to go from 1080P UI to 4K UI.

Not all games will be in 4K. Anyone that thinks otherwise is delusional, like the “I hope this means all games will be 60fps now” people are.

A static UI made of basic square shapes doesn’t need to be 4K. I would guarantee that 99% of people would not be able to tell if it’s native 1080p upscaled or native 4K by looking at it because of how basic the UI is.

And MS don’t think it’s worth adding a secondary processor or more memory just to do a native 4K dashboard instead of up scaled 4K. Nothing “better” about it.

If the UI wasn’t so clustered and full of ads it wouldn’t need so much memory. The possibility of it being 1080p on launch isn’t what surprises me. What surprises me is it uses a whopping 1gig of memory to operate. It seems like fixing that would fix the resolution problem.

You're clearly not part of the discussion, so how about you just go away?

Again, DF stated categorically that Xbox was going to have a 4k UI and they added extra RAM specifically for that purpose - but devs requested it for games performance instead.

I don't really care one way or another, and this could change at the drop of a hat, but if MS are going with 1080p UI again it's to the benefit of gaming.

"Full of ads" lol. Jesus christ the hyperbole is pathetic.

I think they mean that you're talking about thing A but they're talking about thing B, so you chiming in saying "But thing A...." is not part of that discussion?

What the hell is the big deal? So now we are going to have threads by fanboys crying about how they aren't going to buy the XSX or XSS because the UI isn't in 4k. Any straw they can reach for I guess.

So why are you bringing up sony adding a second processor or more ram or MS adding an extra 4GB of ram?

Also lol at "rage replies". You're the one carrying on like a porkchop in this thread.

You specifically said sony added more ram to the secondary processor to do the 4K UI, and then you said that MS added an extra 4GB of system ram. You've switched your concern now to MS not being able to figure out how to do a 4K UI

See the bolded? That's what we call concern trolling.

I own an Xbox One and the UI is clustered as fuck. Ads and all. I'm sorry you're okay with that.
It literally has 1 sponsored ad. The other like 1 "ad" tile is for store content. I am ok with that because the "sponsored content" is unintrusive and always video game related (at least here in australia) and the store content tile tells me when theres new stuff on the store, which is great. I'm sorry that you can't handle seeing an ad.
