300 million? Time to put the drink down. I'd love to see it though, of course only if it's deserved.

As for just eventually outselling PS2, yeah it's possible if the start is stronger than PS4, which looks like it will be.

Doubt it will have much to do with esports though, even if PS4 have already established Sony's presence there.

Mr. Imanaka said, "If the number of transfers from PS4, which is backward compatible, is about 120 million, and if more than 100 million e-sports competition population and 400 million spectator population are added, PS5 will be 6 in total. It can be a market of more than 100 million units. "

PS5 is going to sell really well, but more than PS2 during a pandemic and it’s technically for $500? I doubt it. I would be really surprised if it gets near the PS4.

Despite the pile-on that has already naturally begun here, just look at the metrics....
Look at how fast the pre-orders went, there are many indicators of how this console is in very high demand.

It has massive advantages over the competition in terms of back-catalogs coming forward, including PS-video , high budget exclusives with sequels due in the next 2 years and the brand strength worldwide, as well as a very broad demographic.

Also, in 2013 Sony was very tight on cash and at one of it's lowest points ever. Now it has plenty of cash, low debt and the backing of the Japanese government. If they want to break records, they have the means to do it...they just have to be smart about it.

(Not talking 600 million here.... 150-170 million, maybe 200 if they are aggressive)

300MM units in 5 years is more than the PS2 and the Wii sold put together across their entire production lives...

That is 3X the sales of PS4, a console that went up against Xbox One and Wii U. Will Sony do really well in sales this gen? Absolutely-but the market is changing. There are more players emerging with Google/Amazon entering the fray, Mobile is getting bigger and bigger, we are seeing the transition to light hardware and multi-device ecosystems with the advent of streaming, Xbox is starting to find it's footing with Game Pass plus a solid first party line up, and Nintendo has come roaring back with the Switch-a console that doesn't show any signs of letting up anytime soon.

PS5 will sell well-the brand is incredibly strong an in a great position but I would look the the PS4 sales for a rough guide. The Xbox Series S|X is going to put up much stronger numbers than the One did last gen. It will be a closer race for Microsoft and Sony this gen. Nintendo Switch will sell more than either console though.

Edit-not sure why I bothered to reply to this...this is incredibly silly. Who agreed to publish this?

Im not saying that it wouldnt be possible, but estimating something like this even before launch is cringe worthy

Sure, maybe, but I doubt it. PS5 seems to be the default next-gen console, but that’s a lot of units to move. Unless Sony plans on dropping it to $129 within the next 5 years, I don’t see how they’ll do it.

I’m hyped as fuck and took off 4 days to put this mofo beautiful piece of hardware through the ringer. I am excited to see the cool new UI stuff Sony is doing and to play that new Spider-Man game and AC Valhalla in 4K 60fps.

What they know, and we don't is......the liquid metal is actually not used to transfer the heat from the APU. Like with T1000. It configures itself into an additional circuitry per need basis. Additional CU's, extra RW, machine learning. Or it can outflow through the wired Ethernet connection or the power grid, and terminate all Xboxes on the network.
