Alighty, took me a little longer than expected, but I just got done doing the conversion successfully on my son's account. It went a little like this:
-Turn off recurring billing on Ultimate days before expiration
-Cancel membership(you'll still have it through the expiry date)
-Allowed a couple weeks to pass
-Bought 12-month Gold and 1-month Ultimate codes from Eneba with promo it was $59
-Login to Microsoft.com
-Goodle "Microsoft Redeem Code" and follow the link to Microsoft code redemption page
-Redeem 12-month Gold
-Offers 1-month free if you activate recurring billing. I did it.
-Redeem 1-month Ultimate
-Flashes info popup that describes the conversion rates
-Go back to subscriptions page and it will have the converted membership...

My result:
GQPQS7r.jpg

13-months of Ultimate for $59. That makes me, my daughter, and my son I've done this for recently, and now we're all set for a year.
Thanks brother, I appreciate the breakdown. I actually did my conversation a few days ago. I wanted to wait but I was in the middle of playing Yakuza Kiwami 2 so I did the conversion as soon as my ultimate expired.

What I ended up doing was buying 2 years of gold on Amazon, I also got 2 months free by activating the recurring billing like you did on each card. I had to buy Ultimate for $14.99 because I had already done the $1 deal though. I ended up spending $135 in total but I have Ultimate until January 2023. At the end of the day it was worth it. If next gen games are going to be $70 then I spent less and I will be able to get tons of AAA games for the cost of 2.

I'm sure people will continue to post the low res, broken IGN captures though.

First off, that TV almost looks like looking through a window, holy moly.

Secondly, for goodness sake, please get the xbox out of the way of that beautiful TV. That would drive me insane. I get that they are probably doing it for a promotional reason but still... TrIgGeReD.

Yep slide the soundbar forward and lie it down right behind it. You would never notice the system again.

Wow Im so happy playing these old ass games holmes!
I’ve been playing through FF8 the last couple days. I haven’t played it since I was a teen.

Am I not having fun with it?

When Cyberpunk releases it’s going to be played on PS5 and Series X through B/C until the update releases, why would anyone want to play that old ass last gen game? Such hypocracy.

What are ”old games” and what’s “next gen?”

The Medium releasing December 10 will also have Ray Tracing. Only DMC V:SE will add ray tracing later. Apart from that DF tested this in a functional unit back in March.

Be nice to get a date for RT Minecraft - one the titles I'm most excited to try.

So you think this would this have worked if you put in 3 years of Gold first too?

Go Go Neo Rangers!
I had the Elite 1 and loved it. Broke twice though. Should I get the Series 2? Is that the one you have?
Elite series 2 is nice but there is a quality control issue. Microsoft just extended the warranty to one year yesterday actually. I like it but it but my first two had issues with sticky buttons.

It'll work but it's only up to "36 months" like CrustyBritches said (I don't know how to tag people I have to learn lol). You can always get 2 years like I did and then get an additional 6 months card. Everytime you use a card turn on recurring billing and voilà 3 more months. You'd be up to 2 years and 9 months.

Yeah I did three years last time, just refused the extra month they kept offering 😁. I'm good for another two years but a friend's is about to expire.

You're good to go then. Just make sure to tell your friend to wait until his Ultimate expires. If he does the conversion while still having Ultimate then he's screwed because in that case the conversion is like 1/3 instead of 1/1.

Ask me about my fanboy energy!

New rumour that MS has bought Ubisoft, which is unlikely especially with the latter having a deal with Amazon Luna and being publicly traded. Could be evidence of a Game Pass deal though for Ubisoft Uplay (similar to EA Play)
XboxDynasty also spreaded the FUD about Halo Infinite costing 500 million USD to make.

Just a note on acquisitions here for public companies. There are a few ways that these can happen but I'm going be general and cover the most likely scenario for Xbox and (try to) be brief.

Typically the acquiring company will approach the target company and they'll begin preliminary negotiations. The target company will likely end up talking to other companies with potential counter offers or explore options. As things start to get serious the target company will bring on some external legal and financial help to start the due diligence process. This is when negotiations will begin to get real. Typically at somepoint during this process we will start to hear rumors that there is a possibility of an acquisition. This process can take several months. Eventually the boards of both the target company and the acquiring company will vote on the offer. Once accepted the companies will release a joint statement. After that they will need to get shareholder and regulatory approval. Again this process will take a few months as well. Regulatory approval gets more complicated when it is an international acquisition since there are more parties involved. Once approved by shareholders and regulatory bodies there will be a a few months before the deal actually closes and the transaction completes. All in all it would not be crazy for this process to take a year. Even then once the acquisition is completed it takes a long time to integrate and there are still existing agreements that the acquired company will need to honor. With developers we see that these existing projects and marketing deals don't just disappear either. The other aspect to all of this is integrating and consolidation+reduction of the publishing arm all of the shared service functions at the companies like marketing, legal, HR, and accounting.

Anyways all that to say M&A can be complicated and if MSFT were to ever acquire a SEGA or Ubisoft it would be a rather slow process. It might be 3-6 months from announcement to completion and even then it would be a while before you see true Xbox developed games-consider Obsidian, inXile, and Double Fine they were small private companies, easy/quick acquisitions if you will, and the only thing we've seen that is really a "Xbox" game is Avowed which was presumably already in production before the acquisition.

I've read that in Bethesda case is much easier due to being a non publicy traded company, so both parts announced it with a 99,9% sure that it will get through the process with no problems. Publicy traded ones are subject to more regulatory rules.

Bethesda is a little more complicated than some of the other acquisitions because of the private equity component but yes that deal is as good as done.

That's a good exclusive!

"A Proprietary Ray Traced Global Illumination system makes sure that the in-game lighting is natural in appearance, reacts to game events like explosions and object destruction and will work better on the Xbox Series X|S thanks to ray tracing hardware support on the platform. The Xbox Series X version will work at 4K resolution, Xbox Series S works at 1440p, while in both cases, a stable 60 frames per second are achieved."

Be good to checkout it's ray-tracing!

What does the age of a game have to do with having fun? A lot of people have build up a backlog on Xbox or Playstation and are actually happy they have BC to play those games on the new systems. Some of these games even have enhancements.

Not only that but a lot of the best games of all time happen to be older titles, IMHO. Although I'm mostly referring to NES to early 360/PS3/Wii stuff.

Some people think newer automatically means better. Well, if modern television and films teach us anything (let alone modern comics xD), that just simply isn't the case. More glitz and glamour sure, but take that away and get to the meat and potatoes...a lot of older games hold up surprisingly well. Even routinely outpace newer games in some areas TBQH.

Not saying there aren't excellent newer games either, though. Obviously there are. I just don't think most if any of them are heads and shoulders above some of the older greats, even if the newer games have some QoL and resolution advantages.

Hopefully this can kind of become the Panzer Dragoon of next-gen...until the (hopeful) inevitable remake of PD Zwei and a Panzer Dragoon Saga remake (tho I'd prefer that and even a Zwei one to be handled in-house and with Atlus helping too. Atlus & Sonic Team could pull it off).

Great simplified summation of the process 👍

Just watched some videos of this... never heard of it. It looks a little janky but fun. I wonder how much the founder's pack is going to cost??
