Nioh is a masterpiece if you enjoy the combat and stats building.

The combat is close to perfect and there are many builds too make. There's a lot of min/max stuff and the customization is huge.



If you don't care about those two things, well.... The game is not for you.


Nioh for me is near perfect.... But if you want a Souls experience, Sekiro or Ghost of Tsuhima type of game, there's no way you will enjoy it. The game is focused mostly in those two things, everything else is just kinda there....

So far i've played and loved all the Souls games including Bloodborne except Demon's Souls (haven't played it) but i also did like Nioh. I will say it took me a little longer to get into it and it definitely had a different kind of jank to it but overall it was fun. That being said i bought the DLC for Nioh but never went back to play it whereas i played any extra stuff with the Souls games (except chalice crap in Bloodborne) so there's that i guess.

Not surprised a Souls fan don't enjoy Nioh. The game has much more Ninja Gaiden in its veins than it seems at first sight. The camera, stamina mechanic and levels have similar approach to From Software games but the combat, pacing, encounters and animation is classic Team Ninja.

Nioh has worse level design than Souls games. But it is not because its level design is bad. It is good, many games, specially AAA, have worse level design. It is the Souls levels which has god tier level design, with carefully thought encounters.

The combat and how it entangles with the stats system is outstanding. One of the greatest ever.

Didn't grab me either. I tried for a long time and it's a good game but it just doesn't do it for me. It might be the japanesey aspect of it, also why I haven't played Sekiro.

It's not so Souls-like. Combat is much faster, more technical with sub systems out the wazoo like a fighting game, loot is way more important, almost Diablo-like and the levels are bite sized without the sense of progressing through a seamless world (though you still find secrets and unlock shortcuts in each it's not the same).

Really enjoy From software's games and I really think it's a case of nobody does it better.

But this is my second time trying Nioh after finishing Sekiro for the first time ( by the way Sekiro is essential on PC)

Obviously the performance is great but still it's lacking something. I have finished and enjoyed every 'Souls' game.

Now I'm on only a short bit into my play through but I'm been hit again by something is off. Im told it gets better eventually though.

The combat is good but I think it might be the level design that's off? Or how gloomy is it?

What did you guys think of Nioh?
Is Nioh 2 an improvement?
And is there any souls games from another company you'd recommend or is it really a case of nobody does it better?

I couldn't get into Nioh either and it really was just one reason. The inventory. I simply could not stand trying to digest all the different weapons and stats to try and come up with a great build. Don't get me wrong, I could spend hours lining up my build in Souls Games, but once you understood the stats in the souls games it all came together. Granted From Software has perfected this art through their previous series like Armored Core and Chrome Hounds. It was complicated, but the system provided the information needed in a way that made sense. Nioh's inventory system just...didn't click for me and the game play was not engaging enough for me to stick with it. I considered giving it another shot on PC when it came out but ultimately decided against it.

Other than the constant loot shuffling you have to do, Nioh is an awesome franchise with excellent combat and bosses. I’m excited to see where they go with it during next gen. It can use a facelift to go with that action and speed.

Nioh 1 is in my top 10 ever, played about 300 hours and got all the trophies. I'm now 133 hours into Nioh 2 and greatly enjoying it (doing all the DLC to complete the trophies). The loot is actually what keeps me coming back, I like customizing builds and creating new armor set looks.

Its okay. I am a huge Souls fanboy but I don't like Nioh. I beat the first game and was completely bored of it halfway through. It didn't offer much in terms of encounter and level design. I went through the motions. The loot got the better of me as well. There is some brilliant combat there but that was all there is to it for me.

Judged purely on it's own as an action game, I think Nioh is incredible and strongly prefer it over Sekiro. The combat is sublime.

wow. I don’t know. Hard to compare because of leveling. Where would you say you need to be in Nioh to have the combat difficulty that Sekiro has? 80 max? Was Sekiro already being developed when Nioh came out? Because I feel like that influenced them upping the combat and action.

Nioh is amazing. My only complaints are the needlessly complex combat mechanics and the ridiculous amount of (useless) items the game throws at you. I feel like I went through half the game not understanding even 50% of the combat techniques and strategies. Overall though, a fantastic game and easily the best Souls-like I've played.
