Mandalorian Season 2 | DIsney+ | October 30th

That was great.

It just FEELS like Star Wars to me. It's nostalgic without being pandering. It's fan service without being eye rolling.

I would love to see his take on a full movie, but I think I like this better. Fleshing out the SW universe like this is a thousand time more interesting than the Sequel Trilogy.

I really hope the other Disney+ SW series have the same grounded authentic feel.

I am so happy they're sticking with the western in space approach.

Can't wait to start watching. Gotta wait some more for the episodes to come out out.
Maybe rewatching S1 during this time is a good idea.

This is the way.

I like it in a cheesy 80’s style throwback, yes Tatooine again but I just think of it like as if it’s cheers or something where we go to Tatooine once a week, but hopefully we get to explore more planets eventually.

I think even if this show hits around a 6/7 out of 10 or even a 5 I’d rather that than ever see The Last Jedi again personally. Plus I can skip over episodes that suck for rewatching as long as they are stand alone, unlike having to skip the whole Sequel Trilogy.

To be fair mostly though we have one main writer all the way through in favereau who likes to play with the old EU stuff as well as the new, someone who actually knows the lore with Filoni who is still in contact with Lucas and they switch out directors every episode so we get fresh eyes on it whilst keeping the writers the same all throughout.

But if the time comes and a lot of episodes or a whole season in a row sucks then I’m out, especially the more popular it gets and more awards it gets I’m bothered that it’s only a matter of time before Kathleen Kennedy starts interfering making her whole force for women demands with it, since she’s still hardcore pushing that idea with the rest of the SW media heading that way.

Great episode, really enjoyed it and the CGI looked great. Dude at the end could literally be any clone, not just Boba Fett.

*EDIT*
I really hope this gets a blu ray / UHD release. The audio really is shit compared to physical releases.

Great episode, probably one of my favorite yet. Not sure if there were some new tracks here but for some reason the soundtrack really stood out to me this episode.

The only thing I'll say is that the big final battle sort of made me wish the entire show was in 16:9. Took me a second to figure out why it suddenly looked much better...then it was like "right, half of my TV isn't black bars anymore". I've never been a fan of Tv shows going for the movie aspect ratio.

I should have loved this episode but didn't. It was ok. I like how this show uses creatures and settings from the old movies and has new stories set within them, but something about this episode felt off.

Two main things: it was kind of a reworking of the episode 4 plus the Jawa / Mudhorn trade from episode 2. So it's repeating itself already.
The other was Timothy Olyphant. He's great in Justified but really stuck out in this and he's basically playing the same damn character. Add that to the fact he is
wearing Fett armour which is way too big for him
it broke the spell that it was a real thing, it looked like a crap costume. That really took me out of it.

I will also echo the previous post about over acting extras. All of this adds up to the episode not feeling authentic.

Still, I like the stand alone nature of it, not sure about the "cameo" at the end. I really hope they do something interesting rather than just having him there for fan service.

Olyphant playing the Justified character is what I like Olyphant doing. Its his niche. I thought he was incredible.

Honestly i want a spin off series with Olyphant on tatooine...or at least a book on that character.

A mildly entertaining way to spend an hour. Seems on par with last season, it's ok, but the show overall is just so predictable and safe. I did enjoy seeing Timothy Olyphant though, that was a pleasant surprise.

Agreed.

I can't say I cared for the ill-fitting armour on Olyphant (looked weird), but I share your sentiments about it being entertaining but predictable. I did enjoy the brief Jaws homage with the camera zoom on Cobb though. Curious to see what the Baby Yoda Meme factory gets out of the episode given he was very much in the backdrop. Also was there any relevance to the pearl-like object the Tuskans cut out of the Krayt at the end?

Wasn't Cobb supposed to look kinda ridiculous in that armor? I mean he straight up looks like he's cosplaying Boba.
He's a vain, ridiculous and sorta cool dude. I dunno.

Predictable and safe? You saw what happened when they went outside the box for the films.
Can't please anybody.

Love the scenery in chapter 9, as well as bringing two warring tribes together to battle a common enemy. Which is what the US should be doing against China.

Not that I don’t agree, but this has to be the segue award of the year, lmao.

I liked it a lot. It feels as if they’ve picked up where they left off last season, where Mandalorian was turning into a legitimately good show, which isn’t always a guarantee when you’ve been gone a year.

-This was my first time with Mando in 4K and HDR. What a gorgeous TV (!) show
-It still feels like a space western, and it’s still wonderfully appropriate for Star Wars
-I don’t know what it is, but everything about this show, right down to the creature design, screams Star Wars. It isn’t forced, it isn’t an imitation. It’s just brand-new Star Wars. It’s quite the accomplishment
-Longer run time was cool. Some Season 1 episodes made a short run time work, others didn’t. Glad this episode got a chance to breathe
-Seamlessly altering the widescreen ratio to magnify how huge the dragon was, was a really nice touch
-Next episode, or whenever that one character at the end shows up, is going to be fun

Thinking about it, I am a bit disappointed they start digging old characters out of their literal graves instead of doing their own thing like they did in the first batch.

i feel this will be detrimental to Star Wars again.

This universe really needs some new perspectives and stories done within the framework of the world without doing the old characters again and again. And it's even worse when they were thought off as dead.

Who gives a shit anymore if someone dies if it doesn't mean anything anyway?

Boba needs a proper ending. We all love the OT, but there’s not a person alive who was okay with him going out like that, lol.

Dead is dead.

I wasn't okay with Darth Maul being sliced in half in TPM either, but I would have vastly preferred him staying dead rather than the mechanical legs shit they did on him later on.

Going that route just shows me they start repeating the same mistakes that SW did for much too long.
Which is sad, since so far they stayed out of that rabbit hole.

And on the behalf of that character, I was completely okay with him dying that way when I saw it back in the day.
Game of Thrones is being applauded for better known characters not having plot armour and dying in what might seem silly ways, but SW kind of did it first here, which was amazing.

Maybe less binary thinking there Budd

There were myriad different ways that could have gone with a new trilogy of films. Essentially rebooting Tthe empire and bringing back the Emperor and basically undoing all the work of the original heroes did in the process was quite possibly the most creatively bankrupt route they could go. Abrams was a terrible choice as both a creator and visionary. They needed to introduce a new threat (or at least the Sith in a different form) to the fledgeling republic and then have the heroes of old gracefully hand over that baton to a new generation. Instead, they got a shallow remix which is all about those JJ Abrams patented member berries references but falls short on actual substance.

Personally I thought Fett was far too underutilized in the OT. There could have been so much done with the character but he died a rather ceremonious death in Return of the Jedi.

Besides, you're going to have a new character (Din Djarin) who's very similar to Boba in many ways and not have them interact at some point? It screams like a missed opportunity to me.

And you mention Darth Maul, whom Dave Filoni brought back in Clone Wars and by all accounts was pretty popular among fans (I've yet to watch the series). If Filoni and Jon Favreau can do the same thing for Boba Fett how can that not be a good thing?

As for the need of new characters, The Mandalorian has plenty of new characters from which it can build upon. Boba is the only OT character we've seen (so far) in the series.

Best Mandalorian episode so far. The callbacks to the prequels and older movies is brilliant. I never would have thought that another episode playing on Tatooine would become so amazing!

The speeder actually being parts of Anakins old racing speeder, R5, Tusken lore, Tusken dogs (they are cute af), Boba....what an amazing episode!

I think its an easter egg or a callback to one of the Star Wars games where you had to fight a Dragon too and then you got a pearl after defeating it. Atleast thats what i read

Have you seen thee movies back in the day, or are you approaching this from the viewpoint of the later elevation of that character to something he never was in those movies?

Do you want Star Wars to be trash entertainment, or do you want it to have meaningful consequences in its story lines and developments?
How does anything in this series have any meaning at this point, if nobody stays dead?
Why should I even care if they get themselves into dangerous situations if nobody ever stays dead in this series?

As for the need of new characters, The Mandalorian has plenty of new characters from which it can build upon. Boba is the only OT character we've seen (so far) in the series.
That doesn't make this any better and doesn't bode well for the future.

This is the Boba Fett show. Favereau said he grew up as a fan of the SW underworld - ever since seeing the cantina scene in ANH, Boba Fett and the bounty hunters in subsequent films. It's also a huge nod to the Expanded Universe, reviving stories and easter eggs that Disney deemed non-canon when they bought the IP.

The true Mandalorians are in hiding and haven't been publicly visible in years, and the Jedi are supposedly extinct to the galaxy at large. Someone wearing Boba Fett's armor is a plausible lead, one that potentially will link our main character with the real Fett - who at this time, might be the only person with intimate knowledge of the entire SW story from the clone era to the present.

I agree that bringing Maul and the Emperor back were mistakes. I do think that it cheapens Fett's return. However, I think you are in the minority of people who were ok with him "dying" that way. SW is based on popular myths, the myth of a character being swallowed by a whale or whatever and surviving is as old as time. The story felt unfinished - regardless of Lucas' intentions for Fett. You may not have cared about the character, but as a child seeing Empire Strikes Back for the first time I immediately fell in love with him. I didn't know he was supposed to be "cool", he just ignited my imagination. Star Wars isn't Game of Thrones.....Game of Thrones seeks to subvert popular myths whereas Star Wars has always embraced them. I think Fett's return is in line with that theme.

What’s kind of neat is that this was foreshadowed in the episode by Mando fighting his way out of the Krait dragon. I didn’t catch that before. They were literally prepping us for Boba Fett still being alive.

Just finished first episode, was so good!

I really hope we don't have to wait until the end of the season to see Boba Fett again

Watched them a ton when I was a kid. And even then I thought Boba Fett went out like a bitch. He deserved a better exit than that and I hope Favreau and Filoni can give him that.

Sounds like fan fiction to me.

Anything not written by George Lucas sounds like fan fiction. What matters is how it's executed.

Do you want Star Wars to be trash entertainment, or do you want it to have meaningful consequences in its story lines and developments?

I've long ago accepted that Star Wars is popular entertainment (not trash), and that sometimes it sits on the border of shlock and quality. I personally dislike the Prequel trilogy and how inept Lucas' direction was. His vision was always better when he had people to collaborate with or when someone takes their own spin on it.

The latter has had varying results. On one hand you cauld end up with trash like the Sequel trilogy, on the other, you end up with gold like The Mandalorian.

That doesn't make this any better and doesn't bode well for the future.

Fair enough. But I chose to be optimistic since The Mandalorian has blown me away since the first season. Hell, I wasn't even hyped for this until I actually watched the series proper. All Favreau and Filoni have to do is not fuck up the rest of the season.

That episode was great. Was gonna be pissed if that was boba in the suit though. Looked skinny as fuck lol. Special effects were ridiculous for a show. Maybe the best I’ve ever seen. Like the single story style episodes. Gives it its own style. Like an old school cartoon. Even the theme fits it.

Is there at least someone who really died in ROTJ?

In the next next Episode I hope for the Rancor to have his comeback. That iron door didn't really break his neck, he was just sleeping because exhaustion from chasing Luke.
I was legit expecting a rancor cameo lol. Speaking of all that why the fuck would anyone live on this planet? Sarlac pits. Rancors. Sandworms. Is the planet rich in resources of some kind? Did I miss that somewhere? Spice from the sandworms?

Dude had a combined screen time of like overall 2 minutes and said one sentence in both movies.

He wasn't even a character but a device for Han's story to unfold.

Him dying in that idiot way was cool. There was nothing wrong with it, except when you see him through the eyes of hindsight and that he is a much bigger and more important character now than he was back in 1983 when I watched this movie and nobody gave a shit about him.

Dead characters should stay dead. No exception.

Its funny because i watched episode 1 of season 2 and when finished started thinking. Man they've really done a great job of connecting me to the old stories while expanding the universe. And then that made me think how did they get this show so right and the sequels so wrong. The mandolarian has more character development and character arc in one season than Rey, Finn, Poe, or anyone did in three movies.

Was a solid but not spectacular opening.

It certainly looks cool for a TV show and the budget seems even higher this season.

I still feel like the child is the main appeal for a lot of people though. Without that adorable little green baby it's pretty bog standard Star Wars.

Yeah it felt like an episode 4 of a ten part season tbh, kinda makes me wary if that’s what you wanna open with but it was still entertaining just bland.

I'm happy for you guys who like this show, I watched S2E1 now and I simply find it forgettable and a bit bland. The effects look great, for a TV show they're amazing, but there's nothing from this show that's going to stick with me, there's no suspense, no real characters to speak of.
