Is it really? I only saw the reveal trailer.
Yep. We've got tetris back.

I get it but they're professionals, for fuck's sake. There's no way they can't come up with a more complex character and less of a clown.
Even if he's not a clown this time around, the fact that he's crazy, evil and the only crossdresser in the series' canon is enough for our beloved brothers on the other side to go amok.

Carlos was easier to retcon. Alfred ... not so sure.

I mean, he cross-dresses mostly because of his love for his sister. Not one thing implies him being gay, he just does what he does because he misses Alexia.
So, imo: tone down the effeminate behaviour, make him act less crazy and most importantly, they should try to make the audience sympathize with him by explaning his story a bit better. Sure, he's an asshole, but he's been through some ugly shit.

Think of RE3make. Think of how you already got Plagas in the form of Ne-T parasites. Think of how you already did a cabin fight.

Palette swap RC for Spain and you have RE4. They're not going to change much about the foundation aside from adding melee. Then they'll get to work taking away things that we love, like the Merchant. There will be a reference to him and that will be it.
Take away the merchant ? “Whaddya buying ?”

not the remake of this game

No wayyyy, don’t dial down the crazy or the cross dressing. It all serves the character wonderfully.

He and his sister were born as experiments, and while he was of above average intelligence to be sure, his sister was the real success. She was a prodigy and he grew up chasing after her with no hope of achieving her level of greatness. Then she gets sealed away for fifteen years, and he’s left behind to try and continue the work she started but he just can’t do it. He idolizes her, he wants to be like her, he lives to serve her, but he knows he’s a failure and effectively a monster, and he snaps.

I think it’d be a real shame to diminish any of that in a potential remake and I think a CV remake with a similar stylistic approach as RE2 and 3 could really make it less silly and more genuinely disturbing and sad.

for me they really need to push the boundaries of martial arts movements, it was the best and most innovative feature for me playing re4 and I dreamt of Leon beigh attacked aggressively by ganados and he performing linked animations combos to get rid of them with closed martial arts moves in combos, it would be the greatest gave ever, and now that we have seen The last of us 2 doing that seamlessly I believe this is more than a possibility

after the re3 remake i've noticed that capcom is not concerned about doing a 1:1 remake of a great game so no. hard pass for me.

I find funny and ironic the fact that the known crowd will blow a hissy fit once they see Alfred's Ashford's antics in all their current gen glory, thinking it's a low blow to crossdressers and queers, utterly oblivious to the fact that Alfred Ashford is Capcom's tribute to Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho - specifically the film's protagonist, Norman Bates. I mean, Jesus, Ashford shares the same name with Hitchcock. If that's not a clue, what is?

It almost feels like the kid who licks the roll right before putting it back in the bread basket. Then again, I’d buy it and probably enjoy it.

Interesting! This game felt like a really modern title when it came out, but these days looking back it feels more like a bridging title.. I'm really interested to see how they might subtly tweak the gameplay to freshen it up a bit..

I completed that game, loved it hugely.. might be one of those games i can't do twice though...

So, are Capcom doing this internally or are M-Two working on it? (Like they did with the RE3 Remake)

It doesn't make a diddly-difference. Because all those companies are comprised of ex-Capcom employees, mostly.
According to the Dengeki Interview, Minami's M-Two Inc. was more like a project overseer/supervisor/superintendent. In K2 Co. Ltd's portfolio, Biohazard RE:3 is listed as 共同開発作品 (developed jointly with Capcom)

This is from Dengeki PlayStation Vol. 686 (their last printed issue mind you.)

The interviewer asks chief producer Kawata-san how and when did RE3Remake's development start, what the back-story of the production was.
Kawata-san replied that the actual development and production of the game began approx. two and a half years ago. Back then, Capcom wanted to push forward simoultaneous development of various titles, but the actual personnel of Capcom Dev Division 1 was insufficient to make that happen. Therefore, Capcom leaned to quite respectable developers such as M-Two Inc., REDWORKS Inc. and their frequent and trusted collaborator K2 Co. Ltd, in an effort also to build and solidify good relations with them.
Kawata-san mentioned that K2 Co. Ltd has gained great technical expertise over the years with the RE Engine, they are well-versed in creating the visual and graphics aspect of a title, he also added. And last but not least, Kawata thinks that they have done a pretty fantastic job with all the Capcom games that they've helped them out over the span of the years.

The interviewer asked Minami-san (founder of M-Two Inc.) about his first thoughts when RE3Remake appeared on the table as a project.
Minami-san mentioned that he founded his own company, M-Two Inc, having as goal to help Capcom with smaller scale projects. The discussions about doing a larger scale project had always been on the table, but no actual plans were decided whatsoever. One moment Minami was inquiring Capcom as to how RE2Remake was progressing, and the next thing was being told that they wanted to go ahead with RE3Remake asking him advise as to who should handle the actual development of the remake. Next moment, out of the blue, they chucked him the offer to do it. Minami says he spent half a year assembling the dev-team, finding the right people and doing all the necessary preps for the (pre-)development (phase). Afterwards, two and a half years went into the actual production of the game.
Minami said that Kiyohiko Sakata's REDWORKS Inc. was brought in, since it's always good to have developers from the original game around to lend a hand.

If they can soemhow make it more horror like RE2 then I'm all for it
If not, what's the point?

I agree
RE4 was where they changed Resident Evil for the worst.
Dont care how great of a game it is and how many new fans it brought it, It didnt feel like Resident Evil.

Make it more horror themed, give us some metroidvania style level Design.

But I think RE4 is too far gone to ever be a real Resident Evil game.

From button bashing running away from boulders, Machine gun enemies and dealing with waves of enemies while Escort missioning....
They need to change it from he ground up

Terrible clickbait article.

Let me save you all a click: there isn't even a leaker/rumor claiming unused RE4 enemies may be in the unannounced remake. This website just basically says "wouldn't it be cool if enemies that weren't in RE4 end up in the remake?"

It’s hard to decide whether I’m excited for this, or worried.

It’s a really good opportunity to touch-up any dated elements of RE4, be they visual or gameplay. The thing is though, that’s fraught with risk, because so much of the visual style (older or no) and that gameplay is perfect.

But assuming Capcom is up to the challenge (and they certainly were on RE2), I would love to once again see RE4 looking amazing. That was part of the appeal at the time. The visuals just looked unbelievable to the point where your mind could barely process how this was playable on current hardware.

I hope they keep one thing in mind. RE4 isn’t like other Resident Evil games, not even 5. It was designed with the concepts of “fun” and “cool” at the forefront, as you can see from all the Mikami interviews of the time. If they miss that vibe, or take the game too seriously, the whole thing is going to be knocked off course.

The graphics have evolved immensely since then, so no. Technically and visually speaking, it's a piece of shit today. A remake would do wonders.
100% disagree. Graphically its starting to look a little dated but it has character and runs brilliantly.

So we agree that the statement 'It's literally perfect' is literally wrong? Because it's impossible to be 'literally perfect' and 'graphically dated' at the same time.

Yeah, I get it, nostalgia, blah blah blah, but it ain't perfect.

In TODAY's standards,

This is shit.

This is not.

I mean, seriously, imagine a game releasing today for the PS5 and showing the first screenshot. What do you imagine the comments would be?

Yes, it's shit.

^Jill has to be one of the hottest VG characters around.

This is needed. I played RE4 today, and its gameplay made me quit after an hour. RE3R's gameplay runs circles around it and so does 2R.

The graphics aren't the problem, I also played 5 and 4 looks flat out better. Its the overall design and atmosphere that has 5 beat. Its the gameplay and FOV. And the switching of weapons via menu taking you out of the action completely. And the codec scenes could've been done real time like how they did conversations in the previous remakes. This shit is old. RE5 is still kinda playable compared to 4, you can switch weapons via d-pad, mix via one button and stomp downed enemies which greatly improves the combat (making Mercs better).

Having said that, I would like to see CV getting the 2 and 3 treatment first.

This so much. It's just nostalgia. RE4 has nothing on the newest REmakes, besides ... play length, I guess? It was a HUGE game, compared to the newer ones.

I don't trust Capcom to do a remake of 4 justice right now. They'll remove too much of what made 4 great in the first place. Whether it's the humour/silly feel, the solid feel of the gameplay, the enemy design, areas they will remove, or entire game modes they'll remove, they'll fuck it up and after 3 they shouldn't be doing it if they don't want to do it properly.

3 is what happens when you try to change a classic by rushing it and removing so much that made the original people's favourite. I don't want more of 3.

If they go back to 2's style of being more faithful, then I'll be more interested.

So we agree that the statement 'It's literally perfect' is literally wrong? Because it's impossible to be 'literally perfect' and 'graphically dated' at the same time.
He doesn't know what "literally" means.

Personally, when the HD Project is finished I won't need a remake. I can't be disappointed if the version I'm happy with got even better. 4 is still one of my favourite games of all time.

Its the biggest RE, if we dismiss 6 and we should.

RE5 took me arond, 7 hours ish. RE2R approx 5 hours per campaign (making it longer than 4, but its a lot of repeated content ofcourse). RE3R about 5 hours first time and about 1:40 speedrun skipping everything. RE4 usually took me 12-15 hours.

But RE5, as shit as it might be, it doesn't feel as claustrophobic. idk if they changed the FOV for the remaster (I think they did), you can see around you rather decently. In RE4 its just a nuisance nowadays.
