Tag, you're it.
Am I the only one that think this game doesn't look good at all ?
I'm playing on PC and it's uglier than Origin imo:

Fully maxed out, it look ok but nothing more, and it surely not looking next gen. Am I missing something ?

Besides those screens look pretty good to me. Many people say Odyssey doesnt look good, and i think it looks jaw dropping on PC maxed.

Yes you are missing something. Assassin's Creed: Valhalla was never touted as the true next-gen Assassin's Creed game. It is the Black Flag of this new generation, a cross gen game that is stuck in the past due horrible outdated hardware such as the PS4 and Xbox One. We stress this in our review specifically and you have to accept it for what it is. We are not sure how it is a hard concept to grasp that this is a cross-gen period and you won't see true next gen titles of your favorite franchises until way later down the line at 2 years at most.

I'm using a VPN, it's unlocked if you if you go through New Zealand.
I personally think Odyssey can look very good, not all the time but it clearly has it's moment. People who say otherwise needs to look at all the beautiful screenshots of ACO we have in the 2020 PC screen thread.

I know it's not a full next gen title but AC IV was looking very good at his time and really seemed like a step forward (and still hold up damn well).I played 2h of AC Valhalla and RDR II is looking 10 times better, as AC Origin and Odyssey too. That's why I'm wondering if I'm missing something.

As I said it's not bad at all, but it's not this trailer:

It's a crossgen title so I wouldn't expect it to be that good looking. Trailers showed how the game looked and yeah.... not that good.

Any european member here that can advise me for a free, easy to use vpn to unlock this game earlier?

Snowy areas in video games usually tend to suck ass simply because it's snow and hard to make look good. Even Last of Us 2 was not that visually impressive in the snow portion of the game.

When you get to England it gets much better. Not really sure what you expected out of a cross gen game.

Reason why AC Black Flag looked miles better was because AC 3 took place in USA during the snow season and once again snow looks shit.

Of course going from Snow to tropical islands will make it look like AC 4 Black Flag is a superior looking game lol. Simply because tropical islands always look prettier and better than boring ass snow astethicly and visually.

dl open vpn and use one of these :
the day one patch will be slow to dl (took 20-25 minutes for me)

i did it some hours ago using one the japan entry.

imo there is a skin render problem under some lighting condition (is it a bug or not i don't know but it's not looking great)

Really enjoyed Origins but got bored to death with the increased repetitiveness and damage sponginess of Odyssey. Sounds like Valhalla improves on the aspects of Origins I enjoyed and dials back the parts of Odyssey I didn't, excited to play it after reading the reviews now.

I'm getting 60 FPS on 4K Very High. Using Ryzen 5 3600 and RX 5700 XT. A few micro stutters but it's an Ubisoft game. Not encountered any bugs at the moment. Game is good so far but kinda just chucks you into the middle of the story which seems jarred.

I’m surprised this is getting 8’s and higher. It doesn’t look good. Maybe they made some nice changes so the gameplay is better? I’ll have to read some reviews

You pic actually looks really nice. I mean, it's Ubisoft, we probably going to have to wait.

In some areas it looks great (some textures look pretty sharp, for instance), but in general I feel it is just 'okay'. Things like pop-in and glitchy/bad shadows on characters don't help.

Horizon dlc and rdr2 snow are pretty decent.

Like I said in a previous thread:
I understand why the entertainment industry as a whole fictionalize the Medieval Aesthetic (from "Dark Ages" to the depiction of Norsemen), but a more grounded approach would still make great games (and TV series, movies, etc)
PMQdQLn.jpg

The more "stylized" stuff and gear sells just better. Nonetheless from all the preview stuff i saw i think there will be more historically accurate looks and weapons.

To give you an idea of how prevalent it is. I have had people go back for years and look at old games and then demand changes to scores because HOW did Gears also get a Buy with Ghost of Tsushima. I mean LONG diatribes about games not being able to be in the same result

really? Those are new lowlevels of cognitive degeneration... But well, the shadows of human rights and freedom of speech i guess :D

Any european member here that can advise me for a free, easy to use vpn to unlock this game earlier?

Isn´t it already "in stores" pretty much everywhere? I´m tempted to just go and get the PS4 version today at my local electronics store instead of waiting for next week, where i´m not even sure if i´ll keep the console.

Review from Gamereactor. Seems to be dynamic 4K on XSX, but we'll wait for more confirmation.

From that source:

On the Xbox Series X, Valhalla runs with a 4K resolution (it seems dynamic, as at times there was some notorious reduction in definition) and at 60 frames per second, something that has never been possible before on consoles.

1M+ plus subscribers. So flimsy.

And Logan Paul has 22.6M.. Number of subscribers doesn't necessarily make you a solid good source of opinions.

Yong is just a next-door gamer who happened to gain a following because he's good at quickly roll out gaming news videos, his opinions about games doesn't hold more weight than any random person on gaf in my opinion. And this is reflected by his opinions about Valhalla where it seems like they weren't entirely accurate. I'm one of his subscribers.., so I'm not hating on the guy at all.

Yong is pretty good at what he does though as a solo news reporter. I came across him many times in the past, but never really had the chance to say hi.

ah!

well doesn´t basically "every" vpn service do the trick? just go with a free trial for one like every second youtuber promotes it?
I never used a vpn before, i'm like a 5 years old with those things and i don't usually like to mess with my internet connection, i'm not even sure how a vpn works:ROFLMAO:
I'm only trying this because i had an incident at work and now i'm at home sad, bored and with a bloody cut in my head:lollipop_grinning_sweat:

The fact is that i never used a vpn before so i'm extremely noob.
it's not the more friendly solution but this one is without any subscriptions.
you need to dl one open vpn file from the site
you right click and launch it with openvpn (it will open a command windows)
if it says it's connected launch ubi connect and it should work
unlock and dl the day one patch then you go offline in ubi connect and disable your network adapter
imo it's better to play without connection until midnight.

edit : in fact it's not the more friendly (i forgot the negation like too often)

From what I've seen, it should be in the low-mid 80's somewhere. High 70's if the AI is a big issue to you

-AI is bad and IMO the games most glaring weakness
-Models are dated. They need to update their engine. Dialogue animations/voice acting can be improved.
-The world is MAAAASSIVE. Ubisoft always has amazing 'world building' IMO.
-Cant wait what they will do when they ditch last gen and make it for XSX/PS5/PC only.
-Skill tree is well done.
-Not much loot.
-Movement seems janky at some times but it seems to have nice depth
-Solid combat

The issues with massive games like this, it is hard to not make it feel repetitive.

You're missing the fact that it's a cross-gen game.

Assassin's Creed 2 was one of the best adventure filled games I've ever played.

Blackflag was awesome and the best Pirate simulator and I'm still waiting for more single player pirate games building off it

Assassin's Creed Origins is one of my games of the generation. Egypt is one of the most amazing world's in all gaming.

I've tried to get into Odyssey multiple times with little success.

Even with 2 one of Assassin's Creeds biggest problems is the bloat.

How does Valhalla stack up to the rest of the series?

It cannot look "nextgen", whatever the fuck that means, when it's not.
why would a current gen game look next gen?

You are all misunderstood me, I'm not saying it should look next gen but we are at the end of 2020 and I can expect more. I mean... look at this:
0qryy9.png

The physics is also disappointing, the cape is stuck on the character just like Ezio in 2009 for example. The fur on characters is not 3D or anything, just a simple texture (and fur is very present so it's not a detail). The lighting is good.

Snowy areas in video games usually tend to suck ass simply because it's snow and hard to make look good. Even Last of Us 2 was not that visually impressive in the snow portion of the game.

I kind of agree here, but there is still some things that are not acceptable. I closed the game for now so I don't have screenshot but some textures are really, really bad and the color used on them make them stand out even more. I don't know if I'm clear lol.

Are there differences between the two aside from maybe resolution and frame rate?
Well i would assume XSX is running higher settings compared to XB1. Plus even if it was identicle settings, going from 900p (or whatever it is on XB1) and 30fps, to 4k and 60fps, well that would be a nice jump as it is.

Can someone help me?

I got it on Uplay for PC and the order went through but I cant find where the game is to preinstall it?????

Ok so, for me the defaults for now:
The technical aspect which is disappointing in a lot of aspects like the fur is a simple and ugly texture
The ugly props
Climbing, which is a joke, no more climbing hold on the rocks now you climb anywhere (it look better on buildings)
OP skills that break the immersion (already present in Odyssey)

The positive points:
The setting
Lighting is damn good
General presentation (cinematic, cutscenes etc...)
Ok gameplay, nice combat but I have to play more to get a better idea
Ok PC performance, maxed out except cloud on very high @ 1440p and getting 50/60 FPS with 16gb ram, RTX 2070 (laptop) and i7 9750H with todays driver

I love how you say this and then proceed to display some amazing screenshots...

Haha to be fair, you need to see this game in real time on your own screen, because for example there is this effect on the water that make it kind of pixelized beyond 10 meters, or the physics who is outdated. This is the accumulation of detail like this that make me post this.

Haven't played myself, but I've watched a lot of videos of the game on max settings, 4k, on PC, and all the graphical issues are really distracting to me. The pop-in is pretty egregious, the shadows are buggy, there's crazy amounts of clothing/hair clipping, and other stuff like the water looking like it's rippling at 20fps is really distracting. Like you say, it all adds up.

Edit: Every time I play a Ubisoft game these days I feel like a father with high expectations. I watch the vids, eyeball the screens, and I repeatedly find myself thinking, "Son, you can do better. I KNOW you can."
