Genshin Impact |OT| 4.0 (Fontaine) - Je m'appelle "la baleine"

Thanks, but Diluc was on the Beginners Banner. So I believe I have a 50% chance at Childe and a 10% chance of each of the others. I honestly just want Keqing, but would be happy with Qiqi or Childe as well. So overall I figure I have a 70% chance of not being pissed off lol. My only dilemma is if I want Childe enough to pull for him, or if I should just save for another better character banner. I like Childe, he just seems like he's more work to use unlike a Diluc, Qiqi, Keqing where I can just go bash some baddies mindlessly.

For reasons I won't go into, I'd play the storyline of the recent update before deciding who to pull for.

Well, I tried 5 times in a row using 10 wish set at Keqing increased chance banner and pretty much failed to get her. I don't think I will get her anytime soon.

Sorry to hear that. There is no Kequing increased chance banner. She hasn't been featured on the promotional banner yet. She's been pictured on the standard banner, but that doesn't come with an increased chance of anything, aside from mixing five star weapons in with the random five star characters. This is why in the OP I suggested buying intertwined fates over acquaint fates, because the promotional banner is better for characters.

Finally got around to correctly doing the bounties. The time limit and buffs for the target add a little flavor, but I was disappointed to learn that the limit was 3 bounties a week across all regions, not 3 per week per region. This doesn't make a lot of sense since your reputation score is region specific.

But any character showing in the banner has its drop rate increased, right? Its on their site even. I just dunno why they aren't showing the banner with the water mage, that includes Keqing.

Nope that's only for the event character banner (with Childe/Diona/Ningguang/Beidou). I'd never pull on the normal banner (the one that shows Keqing) since even at pity you can end up with a 5 star weapon and no character at all. There is no increased chance of getting her there.

On the character event banner at your first pity you have a 50% chance of pulling the main featured 5 star character (currently Childe), and a 50% chance of pulling any of the other 5* characters. Since there are 5 other 5* characters possible, that should mean you have a 10% chance of pulling any specific 5* character you're looking for. If you've already gotten one 5 star character from the event banner that was NOT the featured 5* character, on your next pity you are guaranteed to get the event banner character (currently Childe).

Exactly. The one thing I'm not sure about with the standard banner is if you can get weapons on both 90 and 180 pity rolls. Perhaps if you get a weapon on 90, you get some random five star character on 180. I'm not sure about that one. The standard banner seems to mostly be there for anyone who REALLY doesn't want the promo character, but also doesn't want to wait to spend their primogems.

Well, that explains 2 Xings, 1 Kaeya and a frost mage in my last try out. Well...guess I basically ruined my chances. Until her next banner I guess.

If this is anything like their prior games, after we have a bigger pool of characters, MiHoYo will start having rotating 2-3 banners at a time, some with featured 5* characters for ones that aren't limited and in the pool. It's hard to say for sure though, because the other game also has a "shard" system that lets you slowly collect character shards through all sorts of various means and eventually compile them and upgrade them. The only character upgrade material we get in this game are the constellation bottles, so who knows how they're going to handle that. I'd love it if we eventually got something like a "universal constellation" material that we could use on any character we want. I don't even mind if they put it behind a mega grind, it'd be nice to get some constellations on characters we were lucky enough to pull.

I get the cat, but no I don't want that fucking cat.
I've leveled Diona up to 50, have been playing around with her in random groups of hilichurls and stuff, and she's just so bad right now. Really needs a buff. I wonder if MHY should look at Bow users in general. I feel like with the slowdown gameplay of aimed shots, if they really want to make it a viable playstyle, they need to do massively more damage, like 1/3 of the enemy's health bar or something. As it is, why the hell would I bother doing a headshot on a minor hilichurl when a crit headshot does as much damage as a non-crit claymore standard attack. It doesn't make sense.

By "frost mage" do you mean Qiqi? Because she's the best healer in the game, and definitely a good pull.

I get the cat, but no I don't want that fucking cat.

I don't think I want her either, but I wouldn't mind having the other two 4 star banner characters.

Thats her. Didn't know she was a healer.

Whenever you pull a character that you're not familiar with, it's always a good idea to go to you tube and see what people have to say who've been able to build that character. And here I was feeling sorry for you, thinking you wasted your primogems on the standard banner and ended up with mostly weapons.

Bro.... The Standard banner never has increased chances for anyone. The picture changes just to show who is on it, but the chances remain the same. Only the current Limited banner has a higher chance of the featured units.

Qiqi is the best healer in the game and also a powerful support because her whirling ice orb both heals the current unit out on the field and repeatedly applies the ice status to surrounding enemies, letting you proc Melt constantly with a Pyro unit. She was my first 5* because she's what I had on my reroll account and she has never left my main party.

Welp, the dream is dead. Ganyu confirmed as another Cryo bow character. Fuckin' a, I was hoping catalyst. Here are her constellations, but they're a little small and hard to read:
zwyuu23uk1z51.png

Also, I guess Albedo got changed from Catalyst to Sword, and he's mostly a buffer character like Bennett/Waterboi.

Really getting sick of bow/sword users. At least Childe mixed up the formula a bit, but I hope around version 2.0 we start seeing a new weapon type or something. I'm personally a fan of 2h Axe or Scythe, and MHY in general loves scythe, so I think there's a chance.

The Cocogoat Waifu using a bow isn't really that surprising, I wouldn't have had her figured as going unga bunga with a claymore or something. Then again, Mihoyo had a chance to surprise us there and completely dropped the ball I guess.

Pulled a double Ning and Jean with my saved up gems. Jean in particular is very fun, especially if there's water or a cliff nearby. I feel like a Sith lord, choking the shield hilichurls and insta killing them by blasting them into the water. MHY was smart and made the loot drops spawn on shore

If your original Diluc was on the promo banner (rather than the 2-pull Beginner banner, or the general banner), then the 2nd legend would 100% be the promo 5* character (currently Childe).
My first 10 pull on the Childe banner had a Diluc so that means the mercy will be 100% Childe?

My first 10 pull on the Childe banner had a Diluc so that means the mercy will be 100% Childe?

That should be how it works, but it'll likely take between 75 to 90 more rolls to get there. Do you want Childe that badly? And do you have enough primogems to get there? At over 25 dollars for each 10 pull, nothing in this game seems worth buying pulls, at least to me.

And it's not JUST Childe. Your upcoming pity does roll over into the next banner. If one of the next banner characters looks better, you can always wait for them instead.

been lagging in the story and just farming resources, well tonight i met QiQi for the first time.

that fucking personality, i want her for her attitude alone.

the cost of ten wishes that doesn't even guarantee you a character is real garbage. i was thinking they must change that ... but then i see all the money the are making...

Ok so I ran a bunch of leylines today to raise up my new "main" team, and I'm really really enjoying it.

  • Childe - Main dps, built for crit and hydro damage (no sets available yet but luckily i had a Gladiator piece with hydro damage on there)
  • Beidou - Swap in for counter and burst, built for absolute max energy recharge I could get. Didn't even care about her substats for now
  • Ningguang - Ranged DPS and shield breaker for whatever element (except for fatui), can pretty much perma-shield my team with geo reactions. Burst DPS. Built for Geo damage, crit, and has the set that refunds energy to the whole team when she ults.
  • Noelle - Needed a healer, but wanted to try the 2x Geo bonus. She's way better than I was giving her credit for. A little unreliable as a healer since she has no healbomb, but with the shields it doesn't really matter that much (yet).
Anyways, I start out by popping Noelle's shield, swap to Beidou and counter, then hit her Burst, swap to Childe, hit his melee form and electro-charge the shit out of everything. When Beidou's burst runs out, swap to Ning, make shield crystals, use her burst. 90% of the time everything is dead at this point, but if not I switch back to Childe and finish them up. It's a hell of a lot of fun, and other than elemental shield fatui and dendro shield large hilichurls, this generally wrecks everything. If I fight water enemies I just use Ning as main dps. I really like the skill ceiling for timing swaps with Beidou and using her counter. The 2x Geo character bonus is nice too, you get 15% atk every time a shield is on you which is nearly all the time with Ning and Noelle. I'm pretty much clearing level 60-71 enemies with a team of level 40-60s while I build them. Can't wait to see them fully leveled and geared. I'm also considering switching Beidou for Xiangling for certain fights, since she has a good sustained Burst, but I like that Electro-charged bounces back and forth in groups.

Believe it or not, roughly $25-30 for a 10 pull is the de-facto standard in the gacha industry. The main difference isn't in pricing, which is oddly uniform. Rather, the difference in most games is pull rate, pity mechanic, number of free currency giveaways, and that sort of thing.

crazy, the only other f2p game i ever invested time was blade and soul, and while there was gambling it was a bit different. i guess this my first gacha game, what other gacha games are out there?

This sounds like the point in a story where things go very very wrong. I recommend not going down that rabbit hole.

I've played (and quit) a bunch of gacha through the years.
Best in order of general content and F2P friendliness
  1. Azur Lane (tons of content, only thing you pay for is costumes)
  2. Fate Grand Order (best story and characterization of the characters)
  3. Destiny Child (not the R&B group, it's basically an auto battler but it's the most f2p friendly and you either love or hate the art)
  4. Granblue Fantasy (terrible, terrible grind, very dated interface and gameplay, but really generous on free stuff)
  5. Honkai Impact 3rd (MiHoYo's other big game, it's like DMC/Bayonetta lite)
  6. Girls Frontline (can play it very basic or get into some big brain stuff with it)
  7. Illusion Connect (fairly new but I'm impressed so far)
Games I still play but wouldn't recommend to anybody
  1. Fire Emblem Heroes (shit game, only playing due to sunk cost fallacy)
  2. Dragalia Lost (just turned the corner from being extremely f2p friendly, gonna go downhill fast I think)
  3. Epic Seven (terrible game that's far too pvp tryhard focused, but I liked the character animations and designs)

Perhaps. I don't think it's 4K yet on PS5 either. That will likely come with a later update. Plus, I'm not sure you appreciate just how badly Genshin can run at times on a standard PS4:

It runs far better yes it just looks blurrier.
Azure Lane is the TiTS! (With a non existent gameplay lol)
Check my avatar. Sadly, yes. You can auto most things if you get the right ships and gear only EX events should give you trouble in AL.

I wish it played more like a forgiving bullet hell shmup than a stats based auto-battler. That's my only complaint with it. Like you said, a few of the EX stages actually do play like that, but the controls just aren't tight enough to really support it.

That and my phone is crap so I just die to lag on certain stages because the EVA doesn't work in said stages. (Roon's insta shield works though)

I was super bored and decided to try it.

Before I make a mistake: where should I spend my wish tokens?

Also:

I have a few issues with the camera, hope they can be fixed somehow.
1) Is there any way to move the camera a little higher? There's a lot of unused space between the bottom of the monitor and the character's feets and it kinda impacts the total visibility
2) Is there any way to make Y axis movement faster? (I play with mouse)
3) This is really minor issue, but any way to zoom even further than allowed?

Btw, any way to hide UID while playing?

check the "other" section in settings

all your wishes on the beginner banner until its gone, then only the event banner as the standard banner has no increase drop rates and you can get 5star weapons (instead of character)

First 10 wishes: beginner's banner - you'll get a specific character
Second 10 wishes: beginner's banner - you'll get a random character

Wishes after that:

Promo character banner if you want characters. Banner character is currently Childe / Tartaglia, but you're unlikely to get him or another five star character until you've spent between 75 to 90 wishes. You'll mostly get an assortment of the four star characters on the banner.

Weapon banner if you want weapons. No characters. Probably best not to use the weapon banner.

Standard banner. A mix of weapons and characters, with no better chance of any specific character.

Can you guys give me a rundown of the resources and how am I supposed to spend them? I'm afraid to waste them.

Can you guys give me a rundown of the resources and how am I supposed to spend them? I'm afraid to waste them.

Level any character you want to 20, level two or three characters to 40, and really start thinking of the exact team you want to build after that. 20 or 40 requires barely any XP when compared to the later levels, although you don't want to level everyone to 40 either. But don't worry about 20. Just enjoy the early game and have fun.

Aside from that, read the OP. Any other questions, let me know.

There's not really a finite number of resources other than primogems and wishes, so check out the list of characters, pick who you want to roll for, and try to save as much as you need to hit the pity (typically between 75 and 90 rolls) for that character. If the character you want is 4*, just roll on a banner where they're featured or watch for them to show up in the shop. Which resources in particular are you worried about spending?

I just hit AR45 but I'm at a bit of a standstill. I can increase the World Level at will, but it turns out that I can't ascend my characters/weapons until AR50. That means I'll be fighting harder enemies at the same character strength for an additional 5 Adventure Ranks. Sure, my artifacts can use a little more upgrading but I think world enemies will still be unnecessarily tanky.

Do I just stay at the current World Level until I hit AR50, or is the 'improved' loot really worth it? At a glance, it doesn't seem like it is... I'm already doing pretty well in ascension materials for the next phase. But again, the next phase is AR50 and that's going to take like a month to reach. So I have plenty of time to rack up said materials. So yeah, I'm heavily leaning towards "stay at current WL", but if anyone has any other insight I'd greatly appreciate it. :)

Just stay in WL5 until you have a real reason to move up. Like if story/quest reasons are making you go up. The minuscule increase in rewards doesn't make up for the added frustration of every quest (I've learned even the instanced story quests) getting bloated stats. I'm not planning on going past AR45 until I have every character I want to play maxed out to level 80 with level 80 weapons and fully leveled talents.

All of them. There's a lot. And since it's a gacha and I know how they work, I don't really want to waste anything.
Primogem, Genesis Crystals, Stardust, Intertwined Fate... I can't even remember all the currencies I saw while playing so far. It's confusing. Is there a guide somewhere that examines all of them with tips on how to use them without wasting them?

So when you need to do the AR quest to keep ranking up, you can continue to collect AR exp even past the AR level you're at and level up 5 levels at once when you do do the AR rank up quest?

Is there something that the first and second posts of this thread doesn't explain? If so, tell me and I'll add it. I never went into Genesis crystals, but those are just a "pay real money and then convert to primogems" currency.

The only things you should buy at the dust shops are the 5 wishes of each type. They reset each month and are easily worth the dust if you have it. Also, in the master starglitter shop, that's really the only place you can straight up buy characters if there's one in there that interests you, so it might be worth keeping an eye on those as well (they update monthly too). So far we've only seen 4* characters in there, but who knows in the future. It's also worth noting that some characters get way more powerful if you get 1-6 copies of them too, which go into their "constellation" tab in the character menu. Read up on them yourself and see if any of them sound worthwhile to you.

Regardless, unless you're planning on staying strictly free-to-play, you can't really mess up here too bad.
