It is, however, billed as one of the big launch games for PlayStation 5, and 71% of its sales were for the new console (with 29% of sales coming on PS4). We'll get a better picture of its debut performance once the PS5 actually launches in the UK next week.

This is despite PS5 not launching here until this Thursday.

This bodes well for a quick transition into the new generation, people might remember that it didn't take long last time around for PS3 / 360 software sales to plummet.

People talk of leaving behind 100m consumers but let's be honest, there are only a few million hardcore gamers and once they migrate of your system, software sales are going to collapse.

Good, now do the decent thing and murder the PS4 version of Horizon II and keep GOW Ragnarok a Next Gen Title.

Give the PS4 userbase a port of Returnal or something to keep them busy whilst they wait for stock.

Actually it is interesting because it seems according to the sales, the Playstation owner switches to the next console fast. Xbox owners usually buy games for older Xbox longer.

I meant to say this in that other thread, how are the determining what platform people are buying the game for?. Does PS5 have a seperate release?, i thought it was just one release but the game can be played also on PS5?

Yes, PS5 version is separate, and you can even download both version on PS5 if you want to. So you download the PS5 version as a whole not just patching the PS4 version.

This is great news and should help ditching PS4 faster.

I love the PS4 but the sooner it is laid to rest in terms of first party support the sooner we get the true secret sauce filled games.

I don't want GOW Ragnarok to suffer from the restrictions that the PS4 made GOW 2018 work with.

Separate discs for either console, digital sales count as one though as you buy the PS4 and PS5 versions together when you use the PS Store.

Ah i didnt realize that. I thought it was the same thing as Xbox.

It certainly seems PS5 has sold very well in the UK then, if its taking up 71% of sales.
UK is a general PS and Nintendo sales gold mine. We always lap up the latest Sony/Nintendo games and tech.

Xbox always do generally well here too.

It's the opposite on Amazon. PS4 version has been in the top three all week, and PS5 version has been outside of top 10 (Still is, as I make this post). Even has twice as many reviews.

I bought the PS4 version (no brainer) so my son can play on PS4 whilst we wait for PS5 to release later this week. It will then be installed on PS5 as its a free upgrade.

Other advantage to buy PS4 version is that when I sell it on ebay down the line, it will be open to a bigger audience (PS4 & PS5), rather then just PS5 if I had bought PS5 version.

Sony just needs to kill its cross-gen games strategy NOW! It ain't worth it, if this will be the sales numbers.
Doubtful. There will still be 100M more PS4s than PS5s out there. That and 30% of total MM sales still represents a significant chunk of total sales. No point in ignoring that base yet. They'll have to catch up to demand at the very least, before they start considering any changes to cross-gen development. Even that's going to be too early.

Yep, people like to throw out the install base numbers as though that alone proves the potential for sales. But you need to consider how consumers behaviour is going to change once the new product has been introduced to the market.

My worry is that if platform holders keeps pushing for this, they'll end up with a self fulfilling prophecy where they give consumers less reason to upgrade, therefore they stick with and keep purchasing last gen versions of games. Therefore creating the false impression that "consumers weren't ready to transition yet, therefore Cross-Gen was the right strategy".

well they revealed the game on a PS5 showcase where they didnt mention PS4 for months, i bet some people still dont know its available on PS4 lol
You know the people buying the PS5 version already have the PS5 preorded for this week.
It is not like they choose randomally the version they want.

To be fair you only have older games to play on Xbox... so you can only buy them.

I mean, yeah? People tend to want to play games on their new systems, and as such have very high attach rates for new games. MM has a way higher PS5 attach rate than it does on PS4

So... people are crazy to get a new game on their new system since the begining of the gaming history , but this does not detract from the feat. Is just like saying the same thing from BOTW launch date.

One quick question, if you buy the PS5 version digitally do you get the PS4 digitally version too? or is it when you only buy the PS4 version that you get the PS5 version?

Was going to buy but don't feel good about buying a ~$80 expansion, I'll grab it as a PS+ game in the future or when it's down to what it should cost, $30.

Probably buying CoD instead

Can't speak for others, but personally if I had a Ps5 maybe I'd be more inclined to buy Miles Morales just to have another nice exclusive game besides Demon Souls to play around with and take advantage of the stronger hardware.

As a Ps4 only owner though I'm not paying $50 for what's essentially a 10 hours DLC. Even less so with Black Friday in a couple of weeks where a lot of games I'm interested in will probably be on sale.

I believe the digital version of MM is just one product; in my purchased items I see both the PS5 and PS4 versions. I only see the PS5 version of base Spiderman on the browser, but on my phone in the Playstation app it claims I own the Spiderman GOTY version on PS4.

Sure? I have no idea what point you're trying to get across here. I was just explaining why the game would lean PS5 heavy at launch

You don't explain nothing. You just said the obvious.
People who bought a (insert a new gaming console here) needed something to play.
People get a new game to play on their new console. This happens everytime a new console arrives.

Just pointed out that you can say that in about every new console game launch thread dude, relax. And I not being aggressive. I not even turning on my caps lock.
I'm putting semantics, not pointing out your intention.

It doesn't cost $80. It cost $50. My question to you is.......what's the point is lying about the price on GAF? You know we have the proper information, so why lie?

Don't call me a liar.

The base version is $64.99 Canadian. This ends up costing me about $75 after taxes. Which is ~$80. For an expansion. Suck my balls.

This is precisely why I railed against making these games cross gen. The sales are just never there for last gen games. We saw this last gen with BF4, CoD and AC all selling the vast majority of their units on next gen consoles.

Miles Morales here in the german store is 59.99€ for base game, 79.99€ with the remaster of the first game. That is with current exchange rate 71.03$ and 94.71$. For a fucking standalone dlc.

The Lost Legacy had the decency to be a meaty standalone game priced 40€.
