Xbox |OT| Power Your Dreams

Clintizzle

Lord of Edge.
I'm trying to convince myself that i'll do a good guy run on the Series X in Dec then i'll do my second playthrough as a renegade (Mass Effect style) when the next gen patch lands next year.

Really loving the Game Pass Ultimate and Series X. Also its amazing how damn quiet the Series X is. My launch Xbox one power supply was crazy loud even when the Xbox was off. Two gamepass questions:

1. Anybody have an idea when whether a Raytracing update for Minecraft is coming to game pass any time in the near future?
2. My son is an expert in Arms and Smash Bros but otherwise has no fighting game experience. He is now at the age where more mature content is ok. What do people think is the best fighting game on Game pass today?

The Mk11 next gen update is weak af. Combat cutscenes are stil 30 fps and loadings screens are... still present. Basically just a 4k texture update.
I don't see any next gen fighting game coming out anytime soon so we're stuck with that.

So better off keeping it on the external drive to reserve space for better optimized games on the internal?

Nerd things but...there's also this :

What are some immediate benefits?

We are using Visual Studio 2019 on our next (unannounced) project and the benefits are many: faster compile/link times, more responsive UI, much more stable debugging.

i don't know what visual studio is but they have made some tests maybe, they don't want to do any changes in gears 5 now

What prompted the move to Visual Studio 2019?

So, we’re not actually moving Gears 5 to 2019. We did the work to get Visual Studio 2019 going on PC for the purpose of comparing build times and providing feedback. Gears 5 shipped over a year ago and the game has been very carefully tuned; therefore, we don’t want to take the risk of changing the toolchain as we have limited testing capacity and very slight optimization changes could change the balance of the game in very subtle ways. In addition, the XDK does not support 2019 so we would need to support two toolchains which is something we don’t have the capacity for.
The results of the experiment reinforced our desire to stay current with new versions of Visual Studio for our future projects.

Welp i played Destiny 2 all weekend and was having fun with the new stasis powers but also got hit with tons of bugs... just played again tonight since Season One started and holy shit still tons of bugs and freezes. My HDR is acting wonky specifically in gambit and crucible... like colors go kind of psychedelic and shadows look very strange. Doesn't happen in open world or story levels that i've seen. My power level isn't registering correctly wearing certain armor pieces sometimes. The game completely froze the system and we had to hard reboot. Sometimes i will be transitioning between areas on a sparrow and get stuck infinitely loading and have to kill the game and load back up. Played three complete Gambit matches tonight with the wife and her game registered all three but only two for me for no reason. When we were playing over the weekend i was stuck around power level 1185 for half the day until i took all my armor pieces off (variks reward stuff i was leveling up) and switched them for blues and then all of a sudden within a single strike i jumped to 1200. I've always loved this game but man it is so painful to play right now. Also noticed in crucible all the hand cannons are 2 tapping me i thought only one or two guns had this problem right now?

What prompted the move to Visual Studio 2019?

Visual Studio is the generic development tool, an IDE (integrated development environment) that can be used to create anything from mobile and web apps, to enterprise-scale products and games. It supports .NET, C++ and various other frameworks and languages. I use it daily to code enterprisey stuff to Azure (nothing game-related), but it can be used in game development, like the article says.

VS 2019 is the latest version and the most optimized version so far, which was probably the reason for their upgrade. On large projects like Gears etc, it may be risky to upgrade the tools as there may be breaking changes or other things that need to be changed.

In the article they tell that it is now much faster to build new versions and easier to debug them.

In practice this simply means that they can turn new version over twice as fast for testing, when building games. This helps with implementing new features , finding the bugs, fixing them and repeating that cycle faster for better quality games.

I'm not much of a Gears fan if I'm honest, not saying I don't like it but I'm in the middle. I fired up Horde mode yesterday on SX and after seeing the graphical improvement videos on YT I was a bit Yeah it looks a bit better (On YT) But playing and seeing it for real I was blown away. Looks fantastic way better than my 1X, super smooth and controls felt better with no slowdown at all even when really busy. Lighting looked great as well.

Also I checked out Wolfenstein 2 in 4k mode, looks great for a old game. I used to switch to 4k mode sometimes on the 1X in less demanding parts of levels but now from what I've played its great at 4k all the time.

Also nice to have a thread where there ain't too much shitting on Xbox all the time. :messenger_fistbump:

It's where you program games, pretty much industry standard : )

How do I find out if my copy of assassin's creed origins is running the Xbox one version or the Xbox one X enhanced version? Some of these textures are looking a lot worse than I remember.

This is also confusing

I would like to buy a headset for my new series x and I found these following new wireless headsets:

1. Razer Kaira pro
2. Steelseries Arctis 9x (heard of some connection issues)
3. Corsair HS75 XB.

the only use is for the Xbox. Can someone recommend one of those ?

thanks in advance

I dont really use it that much but I have tried it just because its there. Works okay for me.

I remember seeing tweets about some games having the quick resume option disabled temporarily.
Do you have the choice to not use it? Also why would you not? It's one of the main new hardware features. I'm delighted everytime it kicks in. No need to chase the next save point in a game before ending a gaming session anymore. Hit the pause button, switch off your console and come back days later to the same point in less than 30 seconds. I love it in Gears 5.

If you are fine with it being only Xbox forever, Corsair.

You can play one game or close games before you open another one if you don't want to use Quick Resume. It's great function but for now somewhat buggy and with quite severe lack of UI informations. I had bug when Valhalla stoped autosaving game after quick resume. That costed me 8h of playtime.

It should automatically download the best version for you.

Yes the listing function isn't sorted out yet, I get some games I know are Series versions not appearing and I don't get the one X enhanced list on my Series consoles.

It needs to be fixed.

Has anyone got a definitive list of Series games that still run from an external, so far I know about Modern Warfare and Sea of Thieves. Any more?

Sounds like it should be blamed on Valhalla no? All quick resume does is slap the current game progress snapshot to the SSD as far as I'm aware. Anyway I'm not dismissing your frustration, I'd be pissed if that happened to me but I find it hard to go back to pre- quick resume days. Only bug I've encountered is when it doesn't kick in for a game. Let's hope future updates resolve that.

Does anyone have experience with Turtle Beach Stealth 600/700 headsets?

I messed around with a 600, which I believe uses the same speakers as the 700 but i could be wrong, its fine for what it is. The direct connect to the box is great. No dongles or anything. But The sound to me is simply fine. For $100 the 600 is a good value if you want a complete all wireless solution. I have the Acrtis 1 coming tomorrow. I want to try it and compare it.

I think there is some difference between quick resuming BC games and native games and that they tested it more with BC-games as there wasn't many next gen games available. Now that there are, some problems are showing and they are fixing them. For example, BC games might run in an virtual machine, which is easier to handle, than a native game. Just guessing here.

Some details here

FM21 Xbox takes advantage of Microsoft’s Play Anywhere technology to let you seamlessly transfer your progress between your Xbox console and any Windows 10 PC using the same Xbox Live profile.

With Smart Delivery, whether you own the One, One X, Series S or X, FM21 Xbox will work across all of them - and will have a version specific to yours which is optimised to run at its very best.

A clean and crisp match UI gives you an uninterrupted view of the Matchday drama in native 4K on Xbox Series X and upscaled 4K on Xbox Series S and Xbox One X|S.

Xbox Series X|S players can view highlights from league opponents giving you and your scouting team the inside scoop on the opposition before you go head-to-head on Matchday for those three points. You’ll also receive more detailed and valuable stats such as shot maps and Expected Goals (xG) reports – these will show where improvements are needed for your next fixture.

If you’re on Xbox One, you’ll be restricted to loading just five of the best footballing nations, so home in on the trophies that matter to you.

Native games are runing in VM too. That's how whole XBox system is designed since XOne launch. Probably some nenxtgen APIs are not reinitialized correctly in some rare scenarios. Valhalla was trying to save data and didn't shown any error with that.

THANK FUCKING GOD!

I bought i think two seasons of SFV on PS4 and really just lost interest very quickly the way it was releasing in smaller DLC heavy expensive pieces... i put so much time into SFIV and nearly every other SF entry before it, SFV really just felt like a kick in the balls to long time fans. Hopefully they release a big meaty game without raining over priced DLC on our heads... (Ha as if)
