Steel Series Arctis 7P - PS5 wireless headset

I had Arctis Pro wireless which died a couple of months back. I was in the market for a PS5 headset and debated between 7P and 9 for quite a while.

I went for Arctis 9 mainly because of dual audio. I cannot not have that anymore after Arctis Pro. IMO Arctis 9 is a far better headset with just $50 more.

the arctis pro wireless are not PS5 compatible. they work at the PS4 level, period. they do not offer any 3d audio or any PS5 enhancements. i have them and they are dull to say. customer support says December will see a PS5 update.

what happens when they’re connected? Is the tempest option greyed out?

No. You can toggle off and on and set settings in the 3d menu. Problem for me is the headset feels low powered. I've been contacted by a user and they gave me steps to try and fix the issue. I will update later once I've done it.

I picked up a pair of the Arctic 7P. Solid headphones, but they fit oddly light on the head compared to what I’m used to.

I think I prefer speaker audio simply because I find the controller sounds very satisfying.

yeah, the low power issues are causing most legacy “made for” headsets and amps to be too low because of the usb switch from optical. Just for comparison, did you try plugging them into the dualsense? Also, if your tv has optical out you can connect that way. Use usb for mic and chatmix will also return. Your tempest screen will then be greyed out and you’ll have to use the pro dts processing instead.

I tried plugging the 7X dongle directly into my PS5 and experienced abit of break up on my headset yesterday. I went back to the USB adapter cord and moved the dongle away from the PS5 and it all cleared up again.

Thanks. I'll try this too

Arctis Pro Wireless user here and the audio on PS5 is worse than a basic, in ear, amazon basic/recommended. Audio is absolute trash. All audio fidelity has been lost.

I really like the SS range and after trying out a lot of Headphones during the previous gen (feels starnage saying that) my Arctis Pro Wireless was incredible. But as it stands the headset is completely obsolete.

I have a pulse (which I do not like the build quality of....or ear cup size) so I grabbed a 7X off their website. Will give them both a try next week, hopefully the 7X sounds the same (with all the fancy 3d audio) and I can punt the pulse.
In my opinion the 7x is a much nicer headset. I returned the pulse set I purchased:
7x - Better ear cup coverage, better battery life, better compatibility, better sound profile (might be due to the ear cup coverage since I have hill-giant ears), and imo far better build quality. The Pulse headset felt very fragile and "creaky" when I put them on.

Not sure if you guys are looking for other headset recommendations, but I Just picked up the Razer BlackShark V2 Pro and I'm pretty impressed with it (coming from someone that hated Razer products in the past). The audio quality is a clear step above my hyperX cloud flights and they are very comfortable. I saw a few people comment that they sounded substantially better than their previous steelseries. Didn't know about them until recently and pretty happy with the purchase so far. Working well with the PS5.

Only real issues are micro-USB (I use one of those magnetic adapters so not a big deal) and no chat mix dial.

try my suggestion to vin. It won’t give you tempest but it will sound like they did for PS4 and chatmix should return

tempest works on the steel series 7. And obviously through your Dualsense with any headphones. Also with platinum and silver usb cable

I'm with you F Frank but a lot of headset companies are lying. you have to plug your headset into your controller to get tempest functionality. will it come later, hopefully. it doesn't change that the power in the drivers is absolute garbage through USB.

I’m going to finish the video but I think the issue is with a headset like yours that needs an update to the base station. The usb power output is too low. The headsets that are working with wireless dongle, besides losing Chatmix, don’t have an issue because they’re only taking the signal from the dongle so it may require much less power. That’s why dac compatibility is not universally working. Try the workaround I suggested in the meantime. Especially if you like having chatmix available to you without going into the menu. I don’t know when or if Sony will ever allow functionality for that going forward. But in some cases, even if they do it won’t be possible. Like the Astro mixamp. It won’t have chat mix working because it has to separate the mic and audio. Now that the firmware upgraded all audio to go through usb there is no way to separate it. I believe the same will happen with your arctis pro wireless.

Ok, I watched. Problem with his comparison is, he’s comparing a wireless headset to a wired mixamp. He also didn’t update his firmware and is bypassing usb to use optical with the Astro adapter.(that is what i suggested to you the other day by using your tv optical out which, unlike the Astro adapter, gives you the option to keep 2.1 functionality in place). So the low power usb does not affect him. That’s also why he’s getting a robust sound on CoD vs Demons with the pulses. A powered wired headset will usually sound better than wireless. So yeah, try what I told you. And the arctis 7 that I have here definitely output tempest the same as the 3d pulses. I’ve compared them both in the same exact spot in DeS that is a pretty good test spot.

I thought you need to use wireless to get Tempest 3D and wired doesn't get it:unsure:

no.
-Wired over USB will work.
- Not all DACs are compatible though. Wireless with USB dongle has worked with the 4 different headsets I have tried.
-Wired mixamps have lost some power over usb in order to get tempest and are pretty much useless without a workaround that bypasses tempest and uses mixamp processing.
-Nothing that processes tempest will allow for chatmix EXcept Sony PS headsets.
-You can still bypass to get chatmix with some 3rd party options but you can’t have tempest in that scenario.
-Any headphones plugged into Dualsense will allow for tempest.
-Most of these can have chatmix available through UI menu.

I have been wanting the Steelseries 7 for a while now, and think the updated 7P seems like the best way to go since though I mainly use PC I do still use my PS4 Pro and will eventually get a 5

These headphones are incredible and tempest 3d audio is a game changer.

Cold War
Miles Morales
Demons Souls

Sound incredible with the 7P.

A huge step up for those one the fence.

They’re the same. Chat mix doesn’t work for any on PS5 and the P has a USB C adapter that takes up the one slot on PS5. 7 is standard USB A and can be plugged into the back. The 7dongle also has audio out and in 3.5 inputs. If you’re using a PS5 and PC the 7 is the best bet.

In my experience connecting with usb dongle or Dualsense has the same effect. I tested it for hours. Hopefully soon Sony will allow 3D Tempest over HDMI.

Headphone jack is what I am referring to.

I'm receiving mine tomorrow unfortunately I don't have the pulse (actually got the arctis because apparently it sounds a bit better ) neither do I have the gold. I'll report on how I like them even though I wanted to compare maybe with Sony's and all let you know

So run my optical cable from my TV to transmitter and I'll see a difference? Sorry I'm so busy lately, forgive me for asking again.

No problem. Yes run optical out from tv. Set PS5 HDMI out to TV. Plug in the USB part of the arctis base station to the PS5. Choose arctis as MIC and you should be able to use arctis’ processing for virtual surround and regain chatmix mixing. You may also need to change to just chat audio in output to headphones. Try both ways if it’s too quiet. Tempest will be greyed out.

Can someone tell me if this headset support 3D audio please .. before I order one

So I got it. I tried wireless; it have a very slight hum with volume off and a pretty obvious hiss at max volume but you wont need max volume if you adjust the volume in the ps5 at max. Then I tried wired: No hum or hiss but volume is lower so for adequate volume the slider on the headset will have to be close to max to be at adequate volume. Otherwise sounds nice , audio is instead 3D . Will need to test more games, only tried Cold Ward for 15 minutes. Just wanted to report the ''noise'' for those who cares about that

Edit: the hiss and hum when wireless is when the mic is on. I didnt test the mic so I realize it actually loop in the headset AKA you can hear yourself so those noises are coming from the mic on only. With mic off, all is silent. Good news !

Last I read about this headset is that it's stereo only on PS5.

I keep checking the Steelseries reddit for any update on the PS5/Pro Wireless but nothing. Stereo audio feels like a huge step backwards.

if it connects with a usb dongle there’s no reason it won’t support 3D. You won’t be able to use the VSS that it usesnatively, THX headset or whatever. And you won’t be able to use chatmix on the fly if it has controls for it.

I picked up the 7P, I love the feel of it but how long do these things take to charge?
I unboxed everything and plugged it in to charge about an hour and a half ago and the light is still red

Im on the fence with what headset to buy the pulse 3d or the arctis 7p

alot of reviews say the 7p however the 7p lacks some features but i want the best sounding headset

question is what is the better sounding headset? Is the chat mix a game changer can this be changed manually ? I just want the headset mainly for cod

I think I'm going to grab the 7x when they come back in stock as I need a wireless headset that works for PS5 and XSX. Per some threads on Reddit the 7x works with 3D audio on the PS5--just have to use the USB A adapter rather than the USB C, where as the 7p won't work on Xbox (nor will my Sony Golds). Also handy that they work with Switch docked with the USB A adapter and handheld via USB C.

My 7x arrived a few days ago and have had no trouble connecting to XSX, PS5 or PC. At a pinch I would say the headphones are slightly better with XSX but I have only compared Ori with Miles Morales and it wasn't exactly a scientific comparison.

Regardless, I am delighted with the sound quality regardless of the platform and the headphones are comfortable, look good and I like the buttons and sliders for controlling audio on the cups.

No spits or sparkles when moving sliders either which is a pet hate of mine on some other headsets I have had (and some of them weren't exactly cheap).

Can deffo recommend the 7x for either XSX or if you are running XSX + PS5. Not sure where the 7P fits into things exact for the different colour and the fact it DOESN'T work with an XSX. I have no idea if a side to side comparison on PS5 would yield any differences, I haven't seen anything to suggest that might be the case but who knows?

I have gone for the 7p in black its coming on thursday cant wait!

i would only use them on the ps5 so went for the 7p
