They said that the GDK is ready and good enough etc. Different thing is how well they are utilizing it.

Devs aren't using 100% of either console, not all the features of the APIs and optimizations take time, too. All PS and Xbox versions will get better after each iteration.

Unfortunately devs don't have unlimited time for optimizations, especially if there are multiple platforms and a set launch date.

They probably had enough challenges with prev. gen and XSS to care about parity between PS5 and XSX for the first face off.
It's how to play with the words. If GDK are fine you expect there will not to be issue in development . Now I'm not blaming them, they can't do otherwise but they were intellectually dishonest for the sake of the profit, don t be naive. I don't say they haven't their own legitime reason.

Have we gotten any definitive information on how or if the Xbox Series X split memory configuration is impacting performance? That one dev online like a year ago was claiming this meant that if the slower memory was being accessed, the entire memory bank went the same speed. Has anyone been able to confirm or disprove that? I still think this is something that likely is impacting the box and development for it.... Odd to me that no one has gotten to the bottom of this one.
No evidence so far.

IMO I don’t think games are using more than 10GB yet but of course that is just guessing.

This is the thing I don't understand.
Why the game launched with these absurd problems if the tools where so great? Weren't they having a very good and easy time developing for the SeX? They didn't noticed anything wrong before shipping? They didn't alert the press that the came would come out with problems that would be fixed soon?
Why it took them after the launch to start working?

Well that’s an easy answer - deadlines and a console launch. :)

As a veteran IT professional- I can tell you that the companies I’ve worked for over the course of my career ALL have released incomplete and unoptimized software in order to meet target production timelines. It’s expected nowadays that there will be fast follower patches and releases to address bugs and performance issues - *including* SDK and API/framework updates that also include their own set of defect resolutions and performance enhancements.

Both of these consoles are entirely new architectures and I’m guessing both are using 1.0 (or perhaps even BETA releases) of their respective toolkits.

The "tools" don't make anyone a great dev - no matter how good they are (on any platform).

One can have the best DSLR and still suck at photographing.

I'm not blaming the devs here, though. I know it takes time to master new APIs and frameworks etc, before you can get best results out of them. This is the beginning of the new gen, after all.

I get the impression from all the interviews etc that the Codemaster devs are really good and eager to push everything out of the next gen machines.

Who talks of make great developers? Tools are fundamental in the development of course if you suck to develop, good tools won't change that. But if tools sucks you can even be Carmack in person but you can't squeeze out more powerful to the machine if you can't have the full access to it.

now that i have both, for sure PS5 feels more like a new generation, more exciting and premium feeling. but also comes with early new generation bugs and crashes 😆 so there is a trade off, PS5 has already crashes or turned itself off 3 times in the day i used it, where as Series X has not had a single issue

the heptic stufff.. vibration is kinda meh but the triggers are awesome! genuinely improves gamefeel, breaking those balls in Astro will never get old! 😆

but yeah just MM and Astro just kills it for Sony(i might have to get DS too at some point👀), these are real great games to enjoy on a new system with totally new experiences (controller stuff for astro and ray tracing for MM). Series X feels very "meh" in comparison, like i stayed up late playing on PS5, which i dont do often nowadays, but with Series X it was just like any other day just with everything loading and playing better
Welcome to the family, buddy. :messenger_beaming:

interesting - This is now the third game I’ve seen with reported game save / corruption issues (Watch Dogs and AC:Valhalla being the others). Has anyone else experienced these issues?

Ubi has problems on all platforms with saves (WD & AC:V). Maybe a problem with the new cloud progression?

I've lost progression (to a degree) with Watch Dogs Legion twice now on XSX. Waiting for a patch before continuing it.

Oh my Mrs has had this with Valhalla! It's an annoying disconnection bug with uPlay during gameplay.

What happened was we had another Internet outage here again (UK - Virgin Media) and we thought nothing of it until she went to save and said all her saves were corrupt. She was fuming as she'd put in another 6 hours since the last save and worried that she lost a ton of progress.

What we did is turned off the PS4's network and loaded the game up again but entirely offline and the saves were fixed. It's an issue with uPlay. The files are fine, and she's been playing the past few days whilst the PS4 is offline until I know there's a specific Valhalla update.

That is the next chapter of this great console, by the end of 2021 or 2022 you will see that the most interesting rush at the playable level and graphically. It's going to be very interesting, as the geometry engine and the IO controller are going to manage the GPU in a spectacular way.

As we are going to enjoy it, it is great because they are in the middle of the gen and surprises will come, it gives as double satisfaction with the purchase, you will see. We still cannot close the thread until 2022 we can continue to speculate about what the PS5 SOC is like and how the GPU will manage nanite.

I'm having a great time seeing MS get a good bang with your dishonest marketing as well as all their toxic followers who have been generating FUD on the discord channel. Also ordinary people have learned that TF is not an indicator of anything, which is great for people to stop relying on TF marketing and focus more on games.

This beginning of generation is being very satisfactory. However my PS5 will not arrive until December 11. :messenger_loudly_crying: :messenger_loudly_crying: :messenger_loudly_crying: At least I have the dual Sense connected to the PC on steam which already has support for everything except adaptive triggers. :messenger_beermugs::messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy: it's amazing.

At least it’s on the way brother! I’m fighting for one, but starting to look like 2021 for me. Wife got hers yesterday.

Q: What is it like developing on Xbox Series X?

A: Transitioning development to a new console platform, like Xbox Series X, is usually very painful. You have to deal with new tools, new workflows, new ways of thinking.

This time around the team at Xbox brought me a new toolset called the Game Development Kit, which they already had up and running on Xbox One.

This meant that we could make the transition much earlier. In fact, we started doing the groundwork for Xbox Series X development long before we even received the hardware. This kind of thinking from Xbox allowed us to get a real head-start on next-gen development, so after receiving our early Xbox Series X hardware, we were up and running really quickly.

For me, the most important thing in making a videogame is the relationships. Working with Xbox, is a partnership – the team at Xbox is committed to helping us make a great videogame and they’ve shown that to me again and again. That means being open and honest about our experiences; what we’ve loved and perhaps even what we’ve found difficult in development has had meaningful, visible impact on the updates that I get for the tools for Series X. (Shout out to our development partner at Xbox, Richard Hackett! Thanks Rich!)

I’ve never worked on a console launch where, while we’re still months away from release, the tools have been this mature, this stable, this easy to work with.

For people that like good games, this seems like a real gem too.

there is just so much flair and talent to choose from, from some of these smaller studios, i mean Astro, sackboy and now this, as gamers, this just seems like a hell of a good time at the moment for games that experiment abit.
