Stadia isn't dead?

Some people still think there is going to be an AI built in that predicts your next button presses every time to eliminate input lag :messenger_tears_of_joy:
What ? That's obvious bullshit :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Nonetheless, i admit I'm quite impressed by the technology behind Stadia.

It's playable for most games (except eSport, FPS, Fighters) in 2020 so I'm quite optimistic for the future...

Raytracing or not, medium settings or not, it's still 70 bucks only which means faaaaar cheaper than any console.

It's Covid era, dude... People are losing their Jobs. Even the 300 dollars of the series S isn't nothing.

Stadia has gold with Cyberpunk, they can kill it.(don't know if they will)

Plus, i guess, raytracing will arrive sooner or later since Stadia is an evolving service (the khronos group said Vulkan's updates will include RT)

since the game will run at about One X quality and slightly above PS4pro quality... I mean... I bet most people that would be in the target audience for Cyberpunk will at least have a PS4 or even a Pro, so the Stadia version is once again useless as it will not have any advantage to speak of aside from maybe, and this is a big maybe, slightly better graphics.
and if you have Stadia free those graphics will look like shit in their 1080p stream.
I played the Immortals demo and even tho I had a perfect signal according to their overlay, the image quality was absolutely ass.

Google doesn't understand the market, they just jump in with a sub service and w/e. Why would I play Cyberpunk like that? I have a console, and I reckon it'll be a finer experience even on the last-gen systems.

New players should just get a cheap Xbox with GP sub. Its a better experience anyway. Early adaptors like me ain't going to be courted with what they offer.

Offer something exclusive, or new. Like if Disney only had a small chunk of netflix content, and no Mandalorian, why would the consumer bother?

Why the fuck would I bother with Stadia when Gamepass exists?

As someone who missed the Xbox One, Series X launch with Gamepass has been incredible.

So much shit to play right off the bat, many of them with 1X improvements too.

No streaming either. I love GP.

I just wished the likes of Dead Space would be improved, but thats on EA.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Stadia has a monthly subscription and yet you have to buy the games you want to play right? I see no market for this.
No, the monthly subscription is optional and equivalent to ps plus for example. You can play without any subscription at all.

Good points.

What could make Stadia version suffer:

_ Image quality on regular TV (free stadia)
_ GeForce Now (raytracing confirmed)
_ Surprisingely good and steady base PS4 version.
_ The usual lazzy strategy of Google to promote Stadia.

What could make Stadia version shine:

_ Garbage PS4 version
_ Switch users with potato PC
_ No 4K on GeForce now (it's more like 1440p on Stadia Pro, not real 4K)
_ Play anywhere with excellent IQ on smartphone (what about a 7' inches tablet ? Anyone ? )

What is confirmed:

_Google understood Cyberpunk is special for them (Chromecast ultra + Stadia controller + cyberpunk for 70 bucks)

I don't know if Cyberpunk will save Stadia but it's hard to deny this version has a huge potential. (Even in Japan/Korea with their great bandwidth)
As a grandfather (late 30's), i can insure you that a lot of my friends interested by Cyberpunk (ex role players) just have a garbage PC, a 360, a switch Or even a ps2. (Most didn't find PS4 very appealing)

They probably don't know stadia but it's up to Google to triple dip on advertising... With google search, they even have the possibility to hijack the cyberpunk PS4 searches with Stadia version offer lol. :)

That's something Google is betting on, that there is a sizable number of people who are extremely interested in Cyberpunk 2077, that somehow don't already have access to some system that they can play it on. In the case of a game like this (which skews to the hardcore gamer), that's highly unlikely.

They need to use inexpensive, quick-fix games to draw in the type of player that isn't likely to blow money on new hardware every year, but still wants to play a cool game occasionally. To that person, these games might be "disposable", in that they play them for a few hours and then move on to something else, like many movies.

At the same time, it is very important for them to secure games like Cyberpunk 2077, because these games round out their catalog.

Forget about the old hype of "it renders better than PS4 or Xbox One". That was just misguided marketing. Whether that's true or not, the typical person who would buy into something like this isn't going to scrutinize pixels or polygons. The availability and accessibility are more important here.

Google doesn't understand the market, they just jump in with a sub service and w/e. Why would I play Cyberpunk like that? I have a console, and I reckon it'll be a finer experience even on the last-gen systems.

I'm not sure that they understand the market either, especially after many of their early promises fell flat. Over the last few months, it seems that they''re attempting to steer the ship on the correct course. They've done a good job of broadening their range of games, with more genres and various price points.

Offer something exclusive, or new.

Super Bomberman R Online is a hoot. Here's why.

Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle also has similar potential, although I thought it needed better management of player interactions when I tried the demo.

Indeed. I also think the play anywhere, 0 update, 0 download and short loadings (disaster on PS4?) will help Stadia a lot.

Don't you have to buy every game individually again just to play them with high latency?

GeForce Now and Shadow are far superior because they don't require any additional costs other than the recent storage options for Shadow. I may not have the best internet connection in the world but the technology is pretty crazy to me.

A few days ago I got three months of Stadia for free with my Google One sub. I tried it a few times yesterday, but cancelled it pretty quickly. It just isn't for me. Except for slightly better Image quality than expected, the experience gave me absolutely no sense of value.

Stadia has no future. It’s one of Google’s numerous offbeat projects that will soon be canned.

Between XBOX and PlayStation eventually coming out with a proper Game Pass style service, Google is done. God forbid Nintendo should come out with a similar service, and then Stadia is permadeath.

Hard to say. 400 games are under development, the stadia thread on era just reached 100 pages. Of course, it could be nothing but it seems the situation is improving a bit for Google.

I expect many "lol" But let's wait the end of the 2022 plan and discuss then.

No kidding. At least Mirror's Edge saw improvements, and it looks gorgeous.

Why those fucktards are sitting on easy remaster money for one of the very best games/ series of the 360 gen/all time I don't fucking know.

EA sucks my dick.

Stadia has no brand and there's no trust from the consumers. They would only have a chance if the app was part of every TV and they marketed it in a smart way to cost sensitive costumers.
But even then, once an XBox Gamepass streaming app arrives on TVs, it's over for Stadia.

I got a free Stadia kit for being a Youtube Premium subscriber, and I still haven't bothered actually trying it. The Stadia control feels like such a cheap piece of plastic, and my experience trying the beta forever ago was not pleasant. I really hope that we don't get a trend of Stadia exclusives. The free Chromecast was nice though.

Its funny because Xcloud and PSnow arent anymore alive than Stadia is.

Sony atleast holds most of the patents.

Game Pass has 15 million+ subscribers, and I believe PS Now has closer to the 20 million mark — I could be off — ?? But last time I checked Stadia isn’t even close or even on consumers minds.

This can't be right.

PS Now was on 2 million subs when they reduced the price last year. I think its 3 million tops.

Gamepass isnt XCloud. Its in the league of moviepass. And the last update Sony gave about PSnow was 2.2 million. Stadia isnt losing money like xCloud or floating like PS Now. Its just there. I think google has figured out that most people buy a game n drop it with in 10 hours.

I’ve been using it for a year and love it (500 up/down connection). It’s my platform of choice for Destiny 2, Division and MK11.

This is why I keep saying they should focus on games that are cheap and could serve as "disposable" entertainment.

You're dealing with streaming games that are not tangible and don't offer full ownership. With that in mind, I think people would be more likely to spend $5 to $10 on a little game that they might play a few times just for kicks, than to toss out big bucks for high-end games on the service.

You can't kill stadia, it's like skynet.. it has already corrupted every computer in existence. It was one of those google chrome updates...

You have to pay a subscription fee, for as basic as a feature like 4K resolution on Stadia. 4K has been gaining traction since 2015/2016, and is going mainstream as we speak. The adoption will be, if not faster than that of 1080p displays 10 years ago. So is 120 FPS gaming, both of which are getting affordable these days on PC's and consoles, and are not behind a paywall.
Well, 4K maybe basic but what about 4K gaming ?

Is GeForce Now offering 4K for free ? Do they even allow 4K ?

How much costs a 4K console for the upcoming games ?
400 dollars ?

Correct me if wrong but an affordable console like the series S is Not 4K ready...

Maybe 4K gaming is Not that basic.
(PS4 pro, One X were expensive and now they won't receive the next gen games. Only cross gen games)

I am maybe considering buying Cyberpunk on Stadia. Is there any point in getting the Chromecast and Controller (for free) if my PC is hooked up to the TV anyway? How is the controller compared to XB1/DS4? Reason I'm considering it is I'm not sure that my PC will be able to run the game better. Geforce Now is also an option though.
If you don't care about the controller, then take the GeForce now version. (Graphics will Be better at 1080p)
Buy the stadia version if you Want to play over 1080P.
Did you try the demos already ? (Stadia and GeForce now)

Oh, on some Android forums, they're 100% convinced Stadia is the future of gaming 😅
Well, they are Wrong but cloud gaming in general is Not laughable at all.

Cloud gaming is amazing and will Be part of the video game industry.
That's for sure. It's so simple, so convenient, I'm now quite impressed.

The media seems to be pretending it was actually successful. CNBC was talking about it favorably versus the PS5 and Xbox Nondescriptive Cool Sounding Marketing-Oriented Name, like it actually had a substantial share of the market.

I'm sure cloud gaming has a future too, but I can't imagine Stadia being "it". At least not with their present business model.

But I also can't imagine that local gaming consoles/computers are ever going to be replaced entirely by cloud gaming/services.

Time will tell of course.

Got one in the mail, interested to check out latency.

I'm not interested in streaming games but can't beat free
Same. I subscribe to Google Play/YouTube Premium and they gave me the controller and a Chromecast Ultra for free plus a month of Stadia Pro. Should be here soon and not gonna lie I’m excited to check it out and see what it’s all about. If nothing else I get a free Chromecast lol.

Why would it be "dead"? There is enough people that consider themselves "casual" players and simply want to play an hour or two after work or school without being dragged into "Install this, update that" mentality. I am opened to explore different platforms as long as there is value to be found, which is why I am still using Geforce NOW for certain titles, I was there when the service was in beta and I am still there to support it. Stadia is a closed ecosystem, meaning that I have to approach it carefully, not rely too much on it, but also try to have fun with it while it's still alive. I am the kind of person who will take everything that there is on the market.

So I actually got one for free (with the one month trial) two weeks ago. I mostly did it for the chrome cast ultra.

My mini review;
Pros
-Packaging was nice.
-Controller feels good.
-Unable to feel the input lag when playing Risk of rain 2

Cons
-Don't like not having access to games when not online.

This pretty much kills the service for me personally.

-It's tied to Google
(they just killed my favorite Google service, Google play music.

My faith in Google as a company to make things I like, and keep them up is gone.)

Yeah, so it seems nice, but I can't recommend someone actually pay $100 for this package, or subscribe to their service.

Game streaming and VR are mutually exclusive. Only one of the two could be the future of gaming, and I know which horse I am betting on.

for your flat ass information, several people on FB groups are reporting they're running VR games on a steaming solution called Shadow PC or something, over WiFi to Quest. Let alone many more streaming from their own local PCs...

it's only getting better in a few years

kingpotato

Ask me about my Stream Deck
Got the Stadia from the recent YouTube premium deal and it actual works pretty well. I have only played the free with pro games and only single player except for Bomberman and it achieves what they set out to do. Works better than PS remote play from my ps5 to my ps4 or ps4 to my pc at any rate. My problem is the game selection isn't that compelling and I'm not really interested in paying for anything that isn't included with the pro account. Will most likely not keep after my free trial ends unless they add some better games to the pro selection.

Ah, you mean from the PC in their house to the headset in the same house? As in nothing like Stadia?
Well, good luck inventing FTL, anyway. I always find it interesting that Stadia supporters tend to ignore light speed limitations.

VR is about buying quality local hardware, for the best possible quality experience. The exact opposite of Stadia. It is something steaming will not be able to compete in. You better hope VR fails, because game streaming will die as soon as VR becomes mainstream.

Definitely not my best purchase tbh, the pricing model sucks so hard even tho the tech totally works.

Why they haven’t tried to pivot to a Netflix of games model I’ll never know.

Soon

So fucking true.

It's why I moved to iOS / macOS.

I got so sick of getting acquainted with a Google offering and them killing it and then splitting the app into two less functional versions. The list is endless.

Other than Google Home / Google Admin (Business) / YouTube TV I am staying away from their stuff.

They had like 10 games last year...
Hope for them they'll add the netflix model soon.On the other hand, Luna, Xcloud don't allow to purchasing games separetely for the moment which is another problem.I don't care about the gamepass for instance but i would need to buy separetely Daytona, Guardian Heroes and play them on xcloud without a Xbox, without a monthly sub.
