Yep that is all on Phil, he needs to eat that one all by himself.

hopefully gets replaced in the next year by someone more trustworthy.
It depends if it was his idea for Gamepass or not. I do like Phil, but he plays to the crowd and they don't bring him to task on his bullshit.

Xbox is dead (or will be as a console), long live Gamepass.

Mark my works, before PS5 is retired, Gamepass will be on Playstation. Natya said it himself, there's 3 billion gamers out there, and they will not neglect the millions of people that love to play on Nintendo and Sony platforms.

Yep, Microsoft would love it to be on ps5, in the end it all depends on what sony is cooking up. Time will tell and money will be exchanged.

Read my tears about xbox here --->
Did we ever find out what the suprises DF teased were supposed to be? Surely it could not have been that the PS5 has the best third party performance.

Yeah, that was it. It's a surprise as obviously like most of us, they don't know what they are talking about and expected compute power to equal a massive gaming advantage.

All services could co-exist, I can see Gamepass on other platforms just offering Microsoft Studio games though rather than the extras they currently do. I'd happily throw them a few quid a month for that, as well as paying Sony for whatever they come up with too.

Alright - since I've had it a few days now (thanks Wally World!) - my impressions:

Console:
  • Eh - if you didn't know already - it's freaking huge (especially compared to the XSX).
  • Personally - I like the size/form factor of the XSX a bit better because the PS5 is just.. well ... BIG
  • Further adding to this - I'd prefer if it was all matte black or a muted color. Just not a fan of the color combination and it doesn't jive with my setup :p
  • If Sony ever decides to sell additional side plates with a different color I'll be buying them - or maybe painting the ones I have?
  • It's whisper quiet - though *not* as quiet as my XSX. Best way I can describe - the fan frequency is higher pitched on the PS5 versus XSX.
    • As a result I can hear the PS5 at times during gameplay - whereas the XSX ... nothing.. dead silent.
  • All said and done - these are all just minor nitpicks - I'll get used to it.. ;)
Controller:
  • Definitely a huge improvement in overall comfort level compared to Dual Shock 4
  • Certainly feels premium and well made as well
  • Evolutionary versus Revolutionary..
  • Compared to my XSX controller(s):
    • A bit slippery and doesn't have the same "heft" or weight
    • Almost feels a little too light
    • Unless I'm missing something -
      • Wish the PS5 controller would have included back slot to insert and provide option of replaceable rechargeable batteries?
      • (i.e. I have the recharge packs on my XSX controllers)...
  • Haptic feedback and Triggers:
    • Impressive responsiveness
    • Reminds me a bit of the Wii controllers (????)
    • Triggers are certainly Interesting - though not sure if I'm a full fan of them for all games..
      • For the *right* game(s) - absolutely will add to the immersion
      • A little concerned regarding long term viability of the triggers...
        • Already have seen reports of others getting stuck/breaking?
UI:
  • Prettier than XSX
  • More immersive on the game launch screens (swapping background music, etc.)
  • Functional - easy to navigate
  • Cards are nice ways to keep track of your progress in games you're playing (not on XSX)
  • Haven't had much chance to see if this is available on PS5 UI - but
    • XSX is more configurable to organize the menu/sub menus to your liking
  • It's a launcher.. ;) - I don't spend too much time there on either console..
Games:
  • Overall:
    • Games launch fast/quick across the board
    • Compared to XSX - I'd say that overall PS5 launches certain games at near cartridge level speeds, whereas other games .. the feeling is that they launch in similar time frames
      • Shorter answer:
        • Games launch MUCH faster overall on both systems - no complaints - but certainly not 2-5x faster - more like 2-3 seconds faster..
  • Individual games:
    • Have a big backlog to work through (skipped PS4/P because.. well kids are damn expensive.. :p):
      • Spiderman:MM / Remaster - System sellers - impressive RT
      • GoW - 'nuff said - nothing new here - awesome game
      • Ghosts of Tushima - just... wow - really impressed with the overall feel/presentation of this game - though it may become a bit repetitive on combat?
      • Horizon Dawn - Played this awhile back on my nephew's PS4 - much smoother on PS5 from what I recall
      • Astro's Playroom - awesome demo game showcasing the controller and it's capabilities.. ;)
      • More games from the PS collection on PS+ will certainly be on my queue (inFAMOUS, TLOU, etc.)
      • Demon Souls is on my list to buy but - well - I've spent quite a bit of money the past few weeks and my CFO (wife) has cut funding for the time being .. :)
Final thoughts:

Like the XSX, - PS5 is an absolute beast of a machine. Both are unique and have their own "personality".. a VERY good thing IMHO.

I'm truly excited for both systems and am looking forward to exciting gaming experiences on both systems. For these recent and upcoming cross-over gen games - none of the launch games (outside of SpiderMan:MM) really excite me to purchase outright.

I'm not sure which system I'll target these early cross-gen games to play on - as I'm of the opinion that both systems have their respective pros/cons and I really could care less about the current random #framerategate and #resolutiongate comparisons currently flooding YouTube. By the time I finish my current backlog and begin to look for additional games to play - these might be on my list since they'll be discounted, and at that point - I expect that most of these "issues" will be patched/addressed by then and we'll see parity between the two consoles at least for this initial wave of games.

Longer term - well - we'll see - I've owned (and played) practically every console since Atari and Pong days (yes I'm that old) - and I'm certainly excited to see the first wave of games targeting ONLY the PS5/XSX. Absolute great time to be a gamer!

it'll be like Dark Souls 2. It'll launch first on PS4 and then get a PS5 re-release
Honestly there is no real argument for it.
They never made second editions of their games aside for DS2, so statistically there is no reason to think that of Elden Ring.
Plus, PS4 wasn't compatible with PS3, so the only way to upgrade the game was a remastered. This time, they could just release a patch like in other cases.

good point they might just patch it. I just think Elden Ring is a PS4 game that may get updated later for PS5. Just like CyberPunk 2077, on day 1 it'll be a PS4 game.

And they did just do a game of the year re-release of Sekiro, so who knows. Could depend on if it gets DLC.

The GOTY content was a free update pretty much, as far as I know. But yeah they also did the Prepare to Die of Dark Souls and stuff like that, but it was for DLCs as any other game. DS2 SotC was a special case of a game actually been changed only for next gen. I don't believe Elden Ring will get a second edition on PS5 just for nothing, and a GOTY with DLCs would be available also for PS4 I believe.
I mean, companies can do the fuck they want but from a logic standpoint the free update should be the best solution.

Did you started as "Magician" or "Royalty"? You get a ring that helps a lot for mage as the second option
You can find quickly a sword that scales very well for mage on 4-1 after that it's pretty much roll on
magician. with no starting item. I can’t start 4-1 yet. As I’m still struggling with 1-2. lol, but almost there, at least I can consistently reaching the boss :messenger_grimmacing_

thx for the tip. Once I unlock 4-1, I will go get the sword

You have already unlocked 4-1 if you finished 1-1. The sword is in the first area of 4-1. You can see it on a hill. You will need to beat a few difficult enemies but it's worth it.

Doing 1-2 without it is simply making things needlessly harder.

Did you start as magician or royalty?

As Royalty you start with the soul arrow spell which is incredibly powerful and will one or two shot low tier enemies.

I've put all my souls into Intellect, Magic, and Vitality equally. Use the Thief ring when you find it so you can attack from max range without pulling aggro from mobs. Since you don't want to get into melee range you need to work your way through levels slowly, peak around every corner (until you've learned all the spawns).

Right now I literally can kill most mobs before they are even in range to see me.

It feels pretty cheap but it's been a great way for me to learn the levels.

My next run through will be melee focused for sure.
Thx man. I started as magician with no gift. Thank god I played the original so that I know mage will be op. Otherwise I can’t imagine I would ever endure the countless death I’m experiencing right now. I will look out for the thief ring. Thx again for the tip

I don't have the new Xbox but, is this normal? Dan of Gigaboots just posted this video and apparently if games have Smart Delivery attached to them they take forever to download. In the video he basically re-enacts his experience with MS costumer service on this issue. I think his Series X is making him have a mental breakdown.

Lol Super Mario World Stage theme?

Liked your review of the system. I'm not worried about rechargeable batteries for the controllers. I've never had a controller outlive it's battery. Last me for years and usually needs replacement before I've noticed any battery issue. As for the weight...if the Xbox controller is heavier...I don't think that would be great to me. DS is definitely heavier than DS4. Not a bad thing but. The triggers and haptics I think may be REALLY good but yes they could be overly or poorly used as well. I think it's a great enhancement though.

I have to second you on the whole - which version on which platform do I play- question. Look, I've always had Playstation. Last gen I had some friends who got the XB1. They were all bummed about the reports of this or that game being 'only' 900p instead of 1080p. Then I asked them over to see my games. Asked if they noticed a difference? They didn't. That's right. You won't notice the differences now either probably unless it's that the PS5 version loads faster or something. But bottom line, even if a game is 'lesser' on one box or the other, it will still be fun if it's a good game and YOU PROBABLY WON'T EVER NOTICE A DIFFERENCE! So play the games you want to play and on the ecosystem you want...and enjoy!

Thanks.. :)

To add a little further insight on the controller weight - I tested some more and found it's really in the handles where you feel the "weight" difference. Essentially there's more weight/balance towards the middle/bottom of the handles in the XSX (and previous xbox) controller, versus the PS5's weight is towards the top of the controller. This gives the XSX controller a heavier (and balanced) feel (my guess is they actually weigh pretty close to each other).

That being said - I like certain aspects of the PS5 controller as well - especially with touch pad, and the feel of the flatter buttons... Overall - both controllers are great this gen.

With respect to games - I certainly will be playing all the "big" exclusives on PS5. With multi-plats - we'll see - I also have Game Pass that I'll obviously use with respect to games that are made available there, along with years of Xbox Gold games I've accrued as well. I've watched several of these cross-men comparison videos and honestly - they all just turn me off because if that's the ONLY differences that can be brought to light for this gen - then there's really no point to even watch any new ones as they're all going to be a very similar story with a slight "edge" to one or the other console. I'd wager if you setup a PS5 and XSX together and simply did a "blind" display of the same game on two TVs side by side - many wouldn't be able to tell the difference at all or actually be able to match the correct screen with the correct console.. ;)

I agree with others here on other key items that really are more important to discuss - enough with the rumors - where's the X-rays of the PS5 chip? Where's the release of the NDA and details on PS5 vs XSX that we keep asking for? Bring on the secret sauce I say! :O

digital foundry says its nigh on impossible to tell a difference with both consoles in the same ball park, i am talking about the 60 fps mode here which the majority of the players use, watch video again pretty please.

That makes PS5 the best place to play with better SHADOWS, BETTER LOADING#< BETTER CONTROLLER< BETTER FOILAGE.

you can use the wold fucking a 100 times, its not going to change that, sorry bud.
But...but...what about the flop count. That’s the only metric that matters.

It`s his job, don`t get mad about it.

Videos like that can fetch over a million views and depending on viewer demographics it can tenfold the investment in a brand new PS5.

This guy in particular have a small sized youtube channel focused in shreading things... spending 500 on a PS5 will give him a much better return than if he spent the same amouth on ads, for example.

In the end, it`s just business.
Don't give me bullcrap excuses like doing a business, you could sell drugs and calling it doing business, but should we sell drugs? I'm talking about doing what's right or wrong. Obviously what this guy is doing is destroying valuable resources for some of us and should we support his channel? Nah.

Alright all this talk about insiders, true or not, got me thinking and please don't take that as an offense.
But are you really that fond of Red power Rangers ?
Because I probably missed a lot what happenned in the power rangers universe but I remeber them being ultra cheesy when I was a kid.
Did they improved ?

They were ultra cheesy indeed, man I was a kid and couldn't take them seriously.

Hi boys VG TECH Immortal phenyl rising comparison

conclusion:

PS5 in Performance Mode uses a dynamic resolution with the highest native resolution found being 3840x2160 and the lowest native resolution found being approximately 2275x1280. PS5 in Performance Mode rarely renders at a native resolution of 3840x2160. Xbox Series X in Performance Mode uses a dynamic resolution with the highest native resolution found being 3840x2160 and the lowest native resolution found being 1920x1080. Xbox Series X in Performance Mode rarely renders at a native resolution of 3840x2160. The scene at 0:46 was where the lowest resolution was found and this scene seems to render at a higher average resolution on PS5 in Performance Mode than Xbox Series X in Performance Mode. However, in other scenes the PS5 and Xbox Series X render at a similar resolution in Performance Mode, and in some cases the Xbox Series X can render at a higher resolution than PS5. PS5 and Xbox Series X in Performance Mode use a form of temporal reconstruction to increase the resolution up to 3840x2160 when rendering natively below this resolution. Xbox Series S in Performance Mode uses a dynamic resolution with the highest native resolution found being 1920x1080 and the lowest native resolution found being approximately 1280x720. Xbox Series S in Perforamnce Mode uses a form of temporal reconstruction to increase the resolution up to 1920x1080 when rendering natively below this resolution. The only resolution found on PS5 in Quality Mode was 3840x2160. Xbox Series X in Quality Mode uses a dynamic resolution with the highest native resolution found being 3840x2160 and the lowest native resolution found being approximately 3328x1872. Drops in resolution below 3840x2160 on Xbox Series X in Quality Mode seem to be uncommon.
