CNN | Forget PS5: Xbox Game Pass is the best gaming gift of the holidays

In a year dominated by excitement around new hardware, Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service has steadily and quietly cemented itself as the ultimate value in gaming. It’s the best attempt yet at a true Netflix for video games, and now that you don’t even need a console or PC to enjoy it, Game Pass is the perfect holiday gift for just about any type of gamer.

Xbox Game Pass has long been one of the best values in gaming, and it’s only gotten better now that you can enjoy it on a wide range of devices — including your phone. Whether the gamer in your life is just starting to dip their toes in or has a fancy PC rig, an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription is a no-brainer gift that will give them access to a ton of great games for a low price.

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
Value in how much you get for your money, yes.
It's not always what you get most for your bucks that's the factor.

Take away the obvious troll clickbaiting, and it’s an interesting thought by brainlet CNN standards.

They’re looking at it from a casual gamer perspective, as in not even needing a console, or maybe even not a PC. Which kind of gives us insight into how maybe less enthusiast gamers might think.

If I ask a casual do you want PS5 as a gift or a year long free gamepass I know my answer.

You would be pissed at someone giving you free access to a ton of games legally?

You completely missed his point, what if you had no Xbox or capable pc?

Not everyone does clearly and even if you did. Turning down a brand new ps5 for a year "subscription" wouldn't be the smartest choice in my book.

Mf think that subscription is for a lifetime and that you will be able to buy it and play anything and that is not true.

Even more casual than that, frankly. Someone who doesn’t care about visuals or new consoles at all, but might have a decent PC, or the ability to stream, or maybe would commit to an ultra cheap Xbox One S plus the service.

A perspective, in any matter. Not the perspective. I should have been clearer.

Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!
One thing is for sure, the ssd space in these consoles don’t really mesh well with big libraries. I’m already out of space on the Ps5 and no options to move ps5 stuff to a HDD. Xbox is a bit better but $$.

Simple. I dont want nor care about gaming services. Why would i want "hundreds" of games, and then not have time to play not even half before they are removed from gamepass? Or have to keep paying a sub after the gifted period is over? I'm ok going to a store and buying a game i want to play and enjoy it to the max without worrying about anything else.

These are some weak arguments made by someone that doesn't know what it offers. Im making an assumption that you haven't tried it.

Games stay on it for months. They also net you a bigger discount if you want the full game. Majority of games on there are less then 20 hours.

The idea is having choice in playing something you like.nobody forces u to play all 384 games on the service.

Says our local system warrior? Some people can see its a good value an decide to talk about it.

Does it make sense to call someone a system warrior, when you yourself are a known one? Or are you under some sort of illusion where your Sonic avatar throws people off? You're a known quantity too.

Shouldn't the title be "Forget PSNOW"? This is a puff piece to appease somebody, putting PS5 is there to drive clicks "oh shock controversy", otherwise it would literally read like an ad. Which it still does, but the title turns it into some sort of "opinion article".

You also have 20% more usable storage on XSX (135GB usable space extra).
