PS Blog Sparks The Elder Scrolls VI PS5 Speculation After Listing it as a ‘Most Anticipated Game’ Option (Vasto, GET ITT!!!™)

When Microsoft bought Bethesda parent company Zenimax, it created a lot of questions about what major multiplatform franchises might end up as Xbox exclusives moving forward. One of the biggest of those is the already announced The Elder Scrolls VI, the long anticipated follow up to Skyrim. While far from conclusive evidence, the PlayStation Blog listed The Elder Scrolls VI in its Game of the Year 2020 awards nominations under most anticipated games, sparking speculation that the title is still headed to PlayStation platforms (most likely PS5) despite being a Microsoft property.

The Microsoft Zenimax acquisition isn’t affecting games already announced for release on PlayStation platforms, and some PlayStation exclusivity deals, like with Deathloop, are still being honored. At the time, Microsoft also indicated that Bethesda games would come to other platforms “on a case by case basis,” leaving many to wonder if we’d seen our last Fallout, Elder Scrolls, or Wolfenstein games on PlayStation. The biggest question marks on the schedule remain The Elder Scrolls VI and Starfield, both titles that were announced years ago and have received very little in the way of substantive updates since.

Many assume that Starfield, as a new IP, will be used as a Microsoft exclusive to bolster the Xbox library of exclusive games. However, fans have held out hope that the longtime multiplatform Elder Scrolls series would still see a PlayStation release for its next iteration, especially as The Elder Scrolls Online continues to receive updates and support on Sony’s console. It’s unclear if the addition of The Elder Scrolls VI as a most anticipated title on the PlayStation Blog is indicative of its exclusivity status (or lack thereof), or if it’s simply wishful thinking by everyone involved, the PS Blog included.

Lol. Give it up. They are not coming to PlayStation.

Besides, after years of seeing ps only players saying that they will “play it on pc”, playing zenimax games going forward should not be a problem.

"First or best" = not actually exclusive.

Exactly. Their statement about the situation is right there. They definitely are going to release games on PS5 after a period of exclusivity on XBox. In the end it's about money and they bought Zenimax to make money. They'll make much more money on Playstation machines than on Xbox.

I'm still standing firm in my belief that MS are buying Zenimax to beef up Game Pass and future proof the service, rather than to keep their games away from Sony and Nintendo. MS sees subscriptions and streaming as the future.

Imagine Google, Amazon, or Tencent buying Zenimax instead, to draw gamers over to their platforms? Tencent are said to have started to eye western game developers for acquisition, so it's not all that far fetched.

Starfield, Elder Scrolls, etc. will come to PS5 and Switch Next, just probably 12 months after their Xbox and Game Pass debuts.

Yup. They'll launch on Game Pass first, and come to PS5 a year later or so for full price. Xbox will chase the money.

I wouldn't put too much into PS Blog. The same blog which said Demon's Souls had Ray-Tracing for months.

I checked it now and they changed it at some point in the past month or so. Ever since that Bluepoint guy said before launch DS had no RT, the blog changed it.

Demon’s Souls from Japan Studio and Bluepoint Games
From Japan Studio and Bluepoint Games comes a remake of the PlayStation classic, Demon’s Souls. In addition to beautiful shadow effects*, players can choose between two graphics modes while playing: one focused on fidelity, and one focused on frame rate.

This is a clever move on Sony's part. Hell of a way to use the Playstation faithful to convince MS to release it on PS5. Still I think this thing is going to be console exclusive on XSX/XSS. It'd be a hell of a reason to pick up a Xbox and right now that's MS needs.

It's a really hard one to predict.

Yes, their other games - bar Minecraft - are kept off PS platforms. But this is a huge investment in IP - like Minecraft - and they'll be wary of harming it by keeping it away from the dominant platform and potentially reducing the mindshare they have with the gaming public.

So it's pretty much unprecedented. My bet is still on timed exclusivity (probably a year) for the big ones like Fallout and Elder Scrolls, and full exclusivity for the others.

Exactly. There's many ways Xbox can use this to their advantage but still makes lots of money. Games sell best in their launch and following weeks. Thats why 1 year timed exclusives work, like FF7R on PS4.

- Timed Xbox exclusivity, even for 2+ years.
- Xbox Game Pass vs pay full price on PS5
- Xbox exclusive DLC & expansions
- Xbox exclusive multiplayer modes
- Sub-par PS5 ports (worse performance)
- Neglect all unique PS5 controller / UI features
- Prevent cross-play or cross-saves, etc

And they can keep some smaller games as full exclusives.

I wonder when people will begin to realise that 7.5B is not a lot of money, especially as a buy-out figure for one of the biggest video game corporations in the United States. To put this figure into perspective, XGS tried to acquire a Japanese IP (singular) years ago for 800M, and no deal! I would bet that this figure does not cover, and likely allows some wriggle room for BGS. Otherwise, the buy-out should have been much bigger. The video game market is rapidly increasing, and Zenimax could easily have made that figure return in the next 10-20 years. To me, MS snatching their publishing power, the acquirement and exclusivity of new and/or existing IPs, and their staff of the other companies under the Zenimax umbrella, and timed exclusivity and easier accessibility / compensation to BGSs' IPs (because of Game Pass), fit the 7.5B bill a lot more.

Next E3 is going to be crushing for many Sony stans here, holy shit. The amount of articles trying to hold out hope. Really thirsty for Microsoft games.

You mean the game that was already available everywhere when they bought it continuing to be available everywhere after they bought it? And you think this specific scenario is relevant to games that aren't available anywhere because they don't exist yet? Oh boy, you need to rip that band-aid off sooner rather than later, friend.

So why don't Sony release god of war, the last of us and a few others on Xbox and pc? More money right?

Can we just stop this until there's some actual news about the games and the exclusivity behind it? These discussions lead to absolutely nothing and revolve around the same arguments every time

They could have gotten timed exclusive for less that 7.5B dollars though. Sony gets timed exclusives without spending nearly that much all the time. Why would MS pay 7.5B to make PlayStation games? I assume you expect Halo, Forza and Gears to hit PS5 too seeing how badly MS needs the money right?

There's no way to know before the deal actually goes through. Microsoft literally can't make any definitive statements before the deal is done.

Sure so Microsoft's CFO is publicly lying.

First off, thats not Microsofts CFO. That would be Amy Hood.

Second, the deal isn't final. Anything they say right now is just that. Words without any meaning. They could say anything they want right now and change their plans on a whim.

Until you see them literally announce the game coming to playstation, it's an exclusive.

Otherwise you can start begging about Halo, Gears, Hellblade, Avowed or Fable aswell.

True Tim Stuart is just Xbox's CFO. My mistake.

Burry your head deeper in the sand.

This is what he said in the article

And we said this as part of the announcement. When we think about Bethesda, it's going to be the continuing to allow -- I'll say allow, but continue to sell their games on the platforms that they exist today, and we'll determine what that looks over time and will change over time. I'm not making any announcements about exclusivity or something like that. But that model will change.

But sure, I'm the one who has his head in the sand

I agree. I suspect that Microsoft will release a statement starting with "At the time..." sprinkled with words like "dynamic" or fluid" regarding the situation in order to change their tune.

Currently, they still don't own Zenimax so anything they say is pretty much meaningless. I think people forget that.

With project Athia exclusively on PS5 for 2 years, I can see TES6 and Stalker 2 exclusively on xbox for a long time.

Gamepass cant fund all these games, so its gonna hit other consoles eventually.
But considering the last fallout games I dont really care about Bethesda. Doom and the smaller studio games are more impressive
