I owned both PS3 and X360, and I was very very happy with them ! Games like Uncharted 1,2 and 3, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, KillZone 2, LittleBigPlanet 1 and 2, God of War 3, The Last of Us, MGS4, GTA4 and 5, RDR, Batman : Arkham City, Bioshock, BioShock Infinite, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Far Cry 3, Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Dead Space, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, Fallout3, Heavy Rain, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Gears of War 1 and 2(the ones I loved), Halo 3, Assassin's Creed 2, just to name some, have really kept me very busy and thrilled me...I think the quality of the software for both Consoles was some of the best of any generation, at least one of my most favourite Gen since I started playing videogames, on Atari 2600, then Mattel Intellivision :messenger_grinning:

Who of you remember the infinite debate about which one was more graphically impressive between Uncharted2 and Gears2 ?! Uncharted2 had some of the best detailed textures and breathtaking settings , while Gears 2 had a more constant texture work. I was so impressed by both, even though Uncharted 2 really touched my heart; I also played U2 MP and U3 MP to death, mostly the Co-op adventure and Arena, and ranked number 40 in the World, I was addicted to it, to the point I started having problems with my wife :messenger_face_screaming:

And what about GTAIV PS4 VX X360 ? The more "natural" look of the PS3 Version VS the sharper image quality and more detailed textures of X360 Version. I remember that most multiplatform games were better on the MS console, and only close to the end of the generation PS3 started to show a very good quality in multiplat, like in GTA5, Bioshock Infinite, and others.

From a selling numbers point of view, Sony had to release the PS3 Slim to recover the lost terrain with X360, winning in Europe at the end of the generation VS Wii and X360, while X360 won in NA, and Wii won in Japan and in the Global.

It was hard for Sony in the beginning and for at least 3 years since the Launch, then the Slim model helped Sony to be very competitive again.

It's been a very exciting generation where nothing was taken for granted, and the forces on the field have changed for all competitors along the generation.

So, in the end I would like to ask you only 3 questions :

1) Which console did you own, PS3, X360 or both ?

2) Which console had the better hardware and development environment ?

3) Your Top 5 Games list of the Gen.

I owned both; still not sure which one had the better hardware and development environment; PS3 harder to develop for with a very very powerful Cell, X360 more friendly to develop for with a more powerful and sofisticated GPU. I don't know, maybe 360 considering all the effort Devs had to put on PS3 along the years to close the Gap with the MS console.

And finally my Top 5 Games List :

1)Uncharted2 for both SP and MP / The Last of Us (I can't decide)
2)MGS4
3)KillZone2
4)GTAIV
5)Gears2

I think this was the only modern gen without a clear winner, though I'd give the edge to the PS3 (which I owned) for its superior exclusives in the second half of the generation and for the nostalgia factor of PS1 backwards compatibility. The 360 started strong but Microsoft rapidly lost interest in properly supporting the platform.

I had lost interest in video games for the first couple years of the generation since I was in college getting hammered. It was actually my sister who convinced me to go splitsies with her on a PS3 slim, since she really wanted to play Dragon Age Origins. We considered getting a 360, but I was persuaded by a friend to get a PS3 instead so I could play Demon's Souls.

Playing Dragon Age and Demon's Souls back to back really restored my interest in gaming, and then Dark Souls became my favorite game of all time.

My top five were probably: Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effect 2, Red Dead Redemption, though I'm not sure on the last one.

I owned both but I lived overseas a good chunk of time the systems were out, so it was a no brainer for me.

Region free gaming is the only way to go.

My top 5 PS3 games:

1) Nier
2) Afrika
3) Deadly Premonition
4) Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom
5) Initial D Extreme Stage

Honourable mention to Lost Dimension, Tokyo Jungle, Saboteur and RDR.

PS3 because it simply had a better lineup with amazing exclusives and tons of japanese games.
It was also the gen when Sony's first party studios started to become a AAA factory.
360 had a fantastic beginning with many games being money hatted by MS (Bioshock, GTAIV DLCs, Mass Effect and more), but they ruined everything since Kinect became their focus in 2009. Eventually PS3 had the best games both quality wise and graphics wise.

Had a 360 from 2005 to 2009 until I eventually got banned for using a softmodded console to play burned discs (nearly everyone I knew went through the same thing since we were all in the same pirating circle). We all deserved it of course.

But I decided to switch it up and bought a PS3 in 2009 and frankly that seemed to be about the time when Microsoft left off the gas completely on exclusives and the Japanese studios were truly finally able to put out HD games with consistency. To me the sheer quantity and quality of Sony exclusives during the second half of that gen far surpassed what Microsoft had built up to that point.

If Microsoft had continued to give a shit about the core gamer instead of chasing that Wii/Kinect crowd, maybe things would have turned out differently?

Of fucking course GAF pretends PS3 was better than 360...

I owned a Wii and PS3 that generation. If I could do it over again, I'd have jumped ship to Xbox way sooner.

Alan Wake
Blue Dragon
Lost Odyssey
Mass Effect Trilogy (timed exclusive)
Bioshock (timed exclusive)
HALO FUCKING 3
Gears of War trilogy
Fable 2 and 3
Deathsmiles
Dead Rising
Forza
Forza Horizon
Oblivion
Condemned

On top of that, their online services were leagues beyond what both Sony and Nintendo were offering at the time, and they had the best controller by a landslide.

You forgot Last Remnant. Oblivion wasn't a 360 exclusive. There were some genuinely great games on the 360, but Halo and Gears are boring as fuck and online play is for people who fuck each other's mothers. And nobody cares at this stage whether something was a "timed exclusive".

To be honest, I prefer the OG Xbox to the 360.

And your remark about the 360 controller is automatically false as the Dualshock shape is infinitely superior AND it doesn't require BATTERIES.

Killzone 2 > literally every Xbox exclusive ever made.

I loved Killzone 2, the atmosphere, the strong AI of enemies, the furious gameplay; I finished it on Veteran, holy crap it was hard, so hard that I didn't want to try again on Elite.

About the exclusive games, I enjoyed both PS3 and 360, with a preference for PS3, my taste.
Multiplat were better on 360 for at least 3 years(give me a break if I'm wrong), then Devs started to know better PS3 and the gap started closing to basicly parity at the end.
