Bought a PS5 for Demon's Souls but can't stop playing Days Gone

Most underrated game on PS4. Probably because the game had some tecnical issues at launch. I played it this year after geting it on a cheap promo cuz was not expecting much from it, and ended up enjoying it more than TLOU2.

The story was much more decent than i was expecting and loved some of the charcaters. Customizing my bike look was great, there was no need to equip the bike with the best parts, so i ended up making a bike that i visually loved, instead of a frankenstein full of the best armor. My much weaker bike, but also much more beauty was never a problem even in the end of the game.
Fighting massive hordes of zombies is an experience that i never found anywhere else.

Also props for the devs that kept ading DLC stuff and improving the game 100% for free.

Yep. I have been absolutely baffled by the critics for several games. This game was by no means the first game sent to an early death by the critics.

I would suggest you go back and replay several other games that were poisoned by the critics.

- Anthem - Great Fucking gameplay. if you liked Mass Effect, you will love the combat here. Especially in the end game when you start making builds. it is NOT a 54 game like metacritic says. I would say its better than Destiny was when it first launched though lack of raid really hurts. Still a good 50-60 hours of great combat to be had.
- Mass Effect Andromeda - Mocked by both critics and bandwagon haters for bad animations, but it's one of the better WRPGs of this gen. Again, fantastic combat and unlike Anthem it actually has a great cast of characters, fantastic loyalty missions and a great fucking ending that rivals Mass Effect 2's suicide mission.
- Metal Gear Survive - Fuck Dunkey and Angry Cunt Joe. People who hate play games and dont really play them for great combat. it's got the great MGS combat but with some really satisfying melee, and an incredible base building system that makes it feel like a completely different game than MGS5. It's survival horror but because of MGSV mechanics, its far better than any survival horror game you would play.
- Detroit - 78 metacritic is laughable for this incredible experience. Easily the best in the genre and some of the best graphics ever.
- the Last Guardian - 82 lol. This is a masterpiece despite some camera issues. It's a GOTY contender not a run of the middle low 80s game. Halo 5 and Gears 4 have a higher metacritic. give me a fucking break.
- Death Stranding - 82 again. What nonsense. Another masterpiece in game design.

These critics are nuts and gamers keep falling for this nonsense.

Literally the only game not on my "I am playing this soon" backlog is MG: Survive; and that's only because I haven't beaten MGSV yet.

Glad to see they are legit and not worth the hate.

This weekend I played Days Gone for the first time too (on PS5 thanks to the PS Plus collection!).

It took a couple of hours to 'open up' as most games do, but now I'm really enjoying it. It's a better Far Cry than the last couple of Far Cry games.

The persistence of the game world is particularly impressive and immersive. Early on in the game I saved my buddy Boomer from blowtorch torture and left three dead bad guys on the tarmac. Several hours of game time I later I happened to drive past the same spot and lo and behold the three dead bodies are still there! A small detail maybe but a welcome one.

The only slight negative is that the game encourages you to loot and explore but frustratingly lets you carry so little of each item type. That aside it's got a compelling gameplay loop and I'm finding it very addictive - okay enough of this writing, lets go back and play some more!

Theres a skill tree upgrade that let's you double your carrying capacity, it makes things much better. Glad your enjoying it though . It's a great game.

Yep welcome to the club. This game got review bombed at launch because it had slight frame rate drops here and there. After that happened no one really gave a shit that it came out and most people that played the game didn't play past the first 3 hours or so.

This is a game you need to play through to completion to fully appreciate how much effort went into it.

I knew this game was going to be great because of how amazing Uncharted: Golden Abyss was on PS Vita, somehow Sony Bend managed to make a more interesting Uncharted game than Naughty Dog could post Uncharted 3. But I had no idea how incredible it would become in the last 5 hours of the game.

And oh man, the ending and the SECOND ENDING were just unbelievable.

Never trust reviews. Always play a game yourself.

Yes! The game has a very similar feeling to Far Cry 2 in my opinion. The world is very dangerous.

Finally finished it after 50 hours. Dat 60fps really helped the experience. Mixed feelings all in all. It could have been such a great game, but they really screwed up. Most of the cool stuff is unlocked towards the end, you need a NG+ playthrough to really enjoy things which is just wrong. All the tools to have fun are there, why make it tedious?

-Fuel in the bike is really annoying and doesn't add anything other than frustration. I can get behind the mechanic, but it's way too limited to begin with. The final bike upgrade really helps balance it, but I got it in the last 5 hours.

-So many unique weapons to play and experiment with. But all the cool ones are locked behind maxing out camps which you won't do until the end of the game, if you do at all. I finished most of the game with 2-3 boring weapons. By the time I could experiment with all the cool toys, there was very little to do.

-Certain enemies are just bullet sponges. Easy to dodge and stay alive, but they just won't go down. Do I really need to spend 80% of my ammo on a single enemy? It's just not fun... Perhaps make it more threatening and cut their health by half.

-Hordes are by far the biggest fun you can have with the game. Unfortunately, there's no indication on the map until you're at the end of the story (fucking why??). By that time most hordes are a joke since they're balanced for low levels. Gee game, it would have been nice to know about hordes and their location when it would have been actually fun to fight them. The game literally doesn't tell you anything about Hordes until after midway and even then you have no way to track them down. Not having read up much before playing, I didn't even know there were dozens of hordes roaming you could fight for rewards.

I had the exact same experience with demons souls. I had that like a child obsessed sense again.

nice post by the way I’ve been thinking about playing days gone. It’s sitting there staring at me.

I think ghost of Tsushima is ready to play now though and at 60fps on ps5 I’m all in. I hope days gone will get a 60fps patch because I’m definitively going to give it a try does days gone run at 4k60 on Ps5 btw?

Yes Days Gone is 4K, 60fps. Here is a short clip. This clip is only in 1080p though.

The radio/mission structure is very bad, terrible scripted and ofter distracting... still the game is amazing.

I don`t know if i`m making too many side mission beforehand but ofter i get spammed in the radio about the main mission.

Often i get a long dialog finishing with "i`ll get to you backk soon" just to 1 second later "hey dee, i`m back...." Wtf... Or even i`m talking to someone or the main character is talking alone and something trigger a radio conversation and i`m left with two simultaneos dialogs... damm.

The developer wanted tension. <- I hope you appreciate my work of art. :)

You don't have tension, if you have uber weapons, tons of ammo (bike ammo satchels, and tons of money for restocking), and a bike that allows you to rip across the landscape without any thought of being marooned some where, having to forge for fuel.

I started a NG+, and I find it's kinda boring, because I remember all those tough beginning areas, and now it's a walk in park, as I have the best weapons, and just mow everything down.

Plus as any good designed game, there should be a progression system, more power gear for later more powerful areas, and I love the fact that horde areas were basically no go zones, and left as end game content, when I had the gear to take them on.

I don't think there's any sort of tention to begin with. It's not really survival/horror, just action. The "top" weapons also are not uber, just different which would allow for some experimentation. The only weapons that make a huge difference are the heavy machineguns, which you can just grab from enemies since it takes dozens of hours before you unlock one. I agree with having a progression system, but there isn't one. Gradually getting new stuff as you progress would be nice, instead you are handed everything at the same time towards the end when you don't need them.

This is awesome to hear. I’ve stopped playing Cyberpunk 2077 on PC (and won’t go back until there have been more fixes) so I was wondering tonight what to play. I just started Days Gone on PS5. Like many others, I was put off by reviews back when it was released but I’m giving it a go now. I’m an hour in and so far, so good. It looks and plays great!

Smyths have this on sale for £15 at the moment. I looked at buying it a couple of weeks ago after reading this thread but it was still £50. Glad I waited, installing it now and will play it tonight.

Playing on ps5, 60fps feels great but the character runs like he is floating? The transition from gameplay to cutscenes felt very outdated and I found the bike mechanics pretty tedious. I honestly got bored and I was only at the part where
your best friends hand got burnt
and haven’t got back in the game since.

I have since moved on to infamous ss and I platinumed it and am currently on infamous first light. Man these games on 60fps look next gen. And i found these so much more enjoyable to play than days gone.

Play it a bit longer - the part you've played is the tedious 'hold the players hand' opening section, which so many games have. It starts getting very good from this point forward,

It's a love or hate type of animations. Nailing this kind of animation blending/responsiveness like Bend did is a nightmare to develop and the reason most games rely on the typical on-rails feeling. I found it weird in videos but the feeling when playing is amazing and made me totally fall in love with it. On the contrary i'm playing Evil Within 2 right now and i want to smash my balls with an hammer for how awful it is to control, a real fucking torture and it's a shame because i'm enjoying the rest of the game alot.

You stopped at the tutorial, game's literally not started yet. The bike changes drastically after every single upgrade, by the end of the game it's a MotorStorm sequel.

Finished Second Son yesterday aswell, haven't touched it for years and it aged like fine wine, these games are so underrated. And yes, it looks absolutely bananas.

I'm really iffy on buying a ps5, ever since they ported Detroit and HzD to PC out of nowhere, I'm constantly side eyeing Sony!

I don't wanna be stuck with a useless buyers remorse box. lol!

I have this installed on my PS5, and was going to play it, but my COD addiction has been too strong. I am almost "done" with Demon's Souls for now, and once that's done, I'll probably play Ghost of Tsushima. And then it'll probably take months before I finally play this...

You forgot Death Stranding.
But if you never owned a PS a whole fucking planet would open. Between the PS4 exclusives library and most of the PS3 titles being Remastered, like the the Uncharted Collection and GoWIII that alone would be more than worth it, you'd have tons and tons of content to try regardless that's very unlikely to come on PC, until they will be all emulated at least.
Outside of Days Gone, InFamous: Second Son, First Light and Ghost of Tsushima in 4K 60fps are just simply orgasmic and if you go physical you could add God of War and The Last Guardian to the list. Also if you enjoyed Detroit, Until Dawn is now 60fps and runs on Decima.
You'd become the worst Sony fanboy in a heartbeat, especially since 90% of what i listed is free for PS5 owners.

Here's a 4K60FPS clip from PS5 that I uploaded, take out couple of Hordes. Damn this game is good, so underrated!

After clearing the game and challenges those super tiny, little, baby "hordes" are so tremendously cute lol.
But the way they make you scared of 20 freakers in the first region, then 50, than 100-150, then 200 just to end with 500 where all you see on screen are running freakers is absolutely brilliant design. And keeping the best for last, in a game this long, also super ballsy.
I believe in some Challenges like Black Friday freakers are literally unlimited.

Count me in brother, bought a PS5 thinking id play DS. Got hooked on Days Gone. Honestly, the game has some of the best graphics I have seen and at 60 fps, it looks exquisite. BTW, any news of a sequel? I really hope they don't give up on it.

id love a PS5 to finish playing this in 4k/60 and in fucking silence lol, it runs great on my Pro but man.. that fucking fan noise.. anyways how big is this fucking game??
i just got bowser a wee pup, been running most of the missions up at Lost Lake, found out what happened with the missus from the FEMA dude
i heard the game overstays its welcome but tbh im still loving riding around on the bike and clearing maruader camps never gets old, but its hard to gauge how far into the game i am

Still loads of content ahead of you mate. And yes, for all I loved it, it overstays its welcome in the last few hours.

How long does it take to get into this game? I played the first hour and didn’t feel any desire to go back to it.
An hour means you're still in the tutorial. I'll quote myself from an older post in this Thread:

Two hours in Days Gone are like 2 seconds in some other game. You haven't seen anything and i mean it, but mostly you haven't felt anything in terms of gameplay.. this is a long ass game and as i said it will introduce you to new things or mechanics constantly.
Just try lo unlock some skills, find some good weapon, upgrade your bike and try to take on a baby horde, once you'll feel that rush you wouldn't want to put this game down. And this is still nothing compared to the later game.

It's a survival, multi region open world. There's lots of super tense action in it but it's a game that requires time. Maybe try some Challenges to see what to expect in the world, but keep in mind you're massively underleveled so you'll probably have your ass destroyed in brutal fashion.

Im bored to death of DeS I can't see myself even finishing the remake

What a surprise. Another terrible post from Jon Neu crying about Xbox getting criticized. Grow up.

Jesus. What an awful post to wake up to. You somehow managed to take a post about five multiplatform games not getting a fair shake from the critics and distilled it down to petty console wars. As if you are incapable of seeing things beyond console wars.

Get some help. Stop being a console war loser who spends all day scouring old threads for something to get upset over. What a sad existence.

Of all the hundreds of games you could have mentioned to make your silly claim about critics not being fair to poor The Last Guardian, you literally choose the 2 best known Xbox franchises. What a coincidence.

I wouldn't have to cry about Xbox being criticized if there weren't such an obvious bias by people like you, who ironically is crying about the press reviews without realizing you are no different from them. You just hate and like different games for different reasons.

I enjoyed the game and I did one of the missions on foot, because they told me ahead of time that I would have to leave my bike at the location. So, I decided to get one over on the game and run all the way to the mission to get the item
Boozers motorcycle back at the firewatch tower
. When I returned back to the base that gave me that mission, they said they sent someone up to bring my bike back.

Let me tell you, running across the top half of the map on foot was quite tense. Except I did it to myself, and it was quite the challenge to avoid the larger groups of freakers with a whole lot of stealth and waiting.

I bought it when it was on sale about a year ago.
Didn't expect too much, thought maybe I would fight a new kind of zombie hoard mode single-handedly.

Then the first bike ride with the song comes in and I went, okay, it's gonna be that kinda game, eh?
The second bike ride with the other song nearly broke me. Kept looking up at the ceiling and batting my eyes so I didn't have to explain to the wife why I was crying.

It was already a good looking game at the time, but it looks gorgeous now. Will give it another play through again next year. Too many games on the plate now ;)

that body damage is a nice touch.

i expect a major overhaul of the gore and zombie physics in the sequel with a good ass cpu under the ass this time.

during big hordes physics was cutted down completely on ps4 to not tank the framerate.

Yet cyberpunk 2077 which has 10x as many bugs gets 9/10 or 10/10 from every reviewer while days gone nevermind....
I think CP2077 highest score for the console version is 8. Even 8 is ridiculously high score for that game performance. Days Gone even on base consoles is great. Small bugs like every open world game and occasional slowdowns when entering some settlements but that’s it.
