Who do you think I am talking about? You've answered your own question.

So sick of generic black dude or wahmen.
You think the guy that got a tentacle in the eye and turned into one of these monsters is the protagonist?
Your bias is showing.
But sure......generic black dudes are so over played.

Bet you he didn't find Isaac Clark - the epitomy of generic white dude - boring at all.

Yeah Isaac Clarke......not boring at all, an absolute star of a character.
I legit forget if Isaac had any lines in the first game, didnt he just grunt?

I know he got developed further in like the 3rd game....but then nobody really liked him or the game then ohhh.....and that other white guy who I forget his name.

But the moment you see a person of color, who literally just gets killed in the trailer.......goddamn all these black dudes.
How many black protagonists are actually out there for there to be a generic black guy protagonist genre?

Not that I in any way agree with the dude you quoted, but Isaac was fkn fantastic and I was definitely attached to him by the end of the trilogy. He was loveable IMO

I agree. But in terms of appearance, he's literally face #1 option for generic custom character in an MMO.

Like half the protagonists in video games. So him calling out a person of color as 'generic black dude' is hypocritical as fuck.

To make it clear, I have nothing about generic looking protagonists of any sex or race (I actually prefer generic faces and armor designs). It's the characterization and voice acting that matters to me.

I'm really hyped for this, big time. But, I'm still taken back by the whole "PUBG universe" thing, I mean, huh? What? Why?

Immediately I didn't understand the correlation, nor did I want it.

Also, PUBG has a universe? Wtf?

He doesnt talk in DS 1 .
I actually liked him in DS 2.
Maybe my overall disdain for DS 3 made me not care for him by the end of the trilogy.

But since we are judging character on looks....there is now way you gonna tell me Isaac Clarke is an interesting looking character?
Outside of his suit the dude is legit just a white guy who could have easily been an NPC in [insert game here] and people wouldnt even notice the Easter egg.

I realize now you guys are only specifically talking about looks and not his actual character. I don't think I really added much to the conversation there or here in that case.

If we're talking about looks, agreed. He looks exactly like his voice actor. Generic buzzed white guy, sure, but I still got attached to the character looks and all either way so it didn't matter to me (kind of like Cole in Infamous; I remember people raging when they gave him hair in the original Infamous 2 trailer so the devs put back the buzz cut). I also hated 3 since it shit all over the horror aspect of the series, but I enjoyed watching his relationship with Carver/Ellie progress, not to mention his interactions with various unitologists. Watching him nearly lose his mind and be pushed to the limit repeatedly only to always come out on top made me feel like we got to know him pretty well. I also liked the whole down-on-his-luck victim thing he had going throughout the entire series. Even when he won/survived, he lost (being tortured and experimented on in between games for example, or surviving and winning all three games just to be eaten by a moon as humanity is wiped out at the end of the DLC for 3). I got so into the series and world that I watched every animated movie, played extraction/ignition, and read all the comics/one of the 2 novels.

That all said, I'm glad you brought up the suit. That was definitely the most iconic thing about him looks wise (kind of like Master Chief). When I think Isaac, I always see the full engineering suit in my head. Either way, like Nick, I have no real problem with generic looking protagonists regardless of ethnicity. I was actually looking forward to getting to know the dude in the trailer, right up until he died. There goes that.

Weird little detail for this game: it takes place in the same universe as PUBG, but centuries into the future. This game is confirmed to be a single player survival horror experience, so I have no idea what that little connection could possibly mean. It cant add anything of significance. PUBG has no story. It doesn't contribute setting in any way since this game doesn't even take place on earth. What's the point?

EDIT:
The origins of The Callisto Protocol began with the formation of Striking Distance as a studio within PUBG Corporation in June 2019, helmed by Glen Schofield, who had previously co-created the Dead Space series at Visceral Games. The studio was created to expand the PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) universe by creating a narrative driven game. Schofield said that when he met with PUBG Corporation where they explained their goal to expand the PUBG narrative, he had already the concept for The Callisto Protocol in mind and presented that to them and worked with them to fit his idea into their universe. Schofield wanted to keep the game grounded in reality to some degree, and thus selected a potentially human-colonizable location like Callisto as the setting. The moon has been theorized to have a subsurface ocean of water, which Schofield believed could offer a mystery to tie into the game.

Among others working on the game include Steve Papoutsis, who also co-developed the Dead Space series and led the series following Schofield's departure from Visceral; Scott Whitney, a designer on the Dead Space series; and Christopher Stone, an animator for the former series. Schofield said that about 25 to 30 former coworkers from Visceral Games and Sledgehammer Games are part of Striking Distance working on The Castillo Protocol. Several journalists commented on thematic and gameplay similarities to the Dead Space series. Notably, the game appears to include the same type of diegetic interface that Dead Space had used by a holographic indicator on the back of the prisoner's neck that indicating their health status and other attributes to the player. Schofield said that the comparisons to Dead Space reflect on his style of game, and while he still wanted to create something different, the allusions and inspiration from Dead Space fell out naturally from his creative approach.

So he had this game in mind prior to the PUBG connection, but his bosses basically forced the connection to let this game see light? It looks like it literally just served to get the game dev resources lol. Also, REALLY good to hear that so many from Visceral are back together in a new studio working on this game. Dead Space is back (ish)!

I think it's like making a horror game and saying it's tied to the Grand Theft Auto universe but a thousand years into the future. Easy pre-orders from the GTA fans who will buy anything which has the GTA name on it.

that's gross and perfect for what this game should be. hopefully we can see some gameplay soon. with that green projection thing on the guy's neck, I'm gona assume they're using a similar display idea as Dead Space where you don't really have a HUD but all the info you need is shown in game already?

So hyped, but Inb4 banned in Australia because our ratings board is shit.

can't you just tell them this is a nature documentary of Australia? I mean it's probably less scary in any case :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Its all just a totally unique world/IP, but around 10 hours into the game during a really tense, horrific scene there's a really loud Cluckin' Bell advert on a nearby radio.
