I ordered a 256gb model yesterday. It got delivered today (thanks Amazon Australia)! Also got the PC usb attachment (now need to upgrade my pc)!
Seriously, this thing is amazing! How does it do what it does better than psvr? Without a camera? The controllers are phenomenal! I purchased The Room game and a Boxing game. After 3 rounds of fighting I was sweating bullets!
Anyway, this piece of tech is amazing! I’m now excited to upgrade my pc to play half life, google earth and plenty of other awesome pcvr games.

Got lucky this morning with Amazon having the 64gb version up for delivery the 2nd week of January so I jumped on it. Still need to find a Elite w/Battery strap. They are not even on the Oculus site for some reason. But at least I secured a headset. Was going to go with the 256gb, but those seem harder to find...but these native games are not that big, so the 64gb should be fine.

I have a dozen and a half games and demos just fine on my 64GB and still some 10GB free. Easy to just delete one or other after awhile and free space and you can always download them back at later time.

before going for Elite, try the standard strap first - when you find the right fit for you, it's quite comfortable, specially after you discover you can turn the side straps up a bit to go above your ears...

I still don’t have the Quest 2, but Oculus is in a league of it’s own when it comes to room scale VR and movement detection without the use of external sensors. Quest 2 is a taste of the future of VR, no doubt.

Some of the older shorter titles can also be amazing if you play them in the right frame of mind. They are by no means perfect, but they have their moments of genius.

Especially the older puzzle genre tried creating innovative moments/experiences when there was no real hand book available at the time.

I got lucky...about an hour after I placed my Amazon order, Best Buy had some with in-store pick up a week earlier...plus the BB Extended Warranty is really good. So I went with BB and canceled my Amazon order. I had a Quest 1 and I still have the Vive Elite Strap, just need to find a place that has the connectors to use on the Quest 2. Might just do that instead of getting the Elite Strap w/Battery.

For those that are now using the 90hz with the Quest 2 how has the battery life changed from using it when it was at 75hz?

still around 2 hours for me, I guess. But it depends on games, most are not 90Hz.

I'm not really counting, getting in and out of Quest games is as easy as wearing the headset and taking it off and so my sessions are shorter than 1 hour and so I just recharge it until next session...

About two hours. I bought an additional battery pack so I can play for hours. You can get a cheap one for like 40 bucks and just keep it in your pocket while gaming.

facebook groups are going crazy with videos of kids getting Oculus Quest 2

are videos of hysterical kids opening a PS5 or switch a reality still?

I seriously think Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft will see their audiences slowly get stale as kids get used to other games and names mostly unknown to flatgaming...

The Quest 2 is surprisingly good as a PC VR headset. Especially for $299.

It completely destroys my original Rift/touch/3 sensor setup I paid like a grand for.

Still mainly a Beat Saber and rhythm game player though.

My Quest is now a Hyper Dash machine. I cannot stop playing. The Water level reminds me of Facing Worlds from Unreal Tournament.

Much different aesthetics but has the dual towers with shit getting heated in the middle.

There are no good pictures of the Hyper Dash level so I’ll snap one later and post it.
Nice. I will have to check that out for sure. I have spent so much time on the Facing Worlds map on the dreamcast and xbox version of UT.

It’s free to play on SideQuest. Videos don’t do the game justice. It’s one of those that needs to be played to understand. The developers took the movement limitations of VR and turned them into a strategic gameplay loop to out play your opponents. It is incredibly well developed and grinding through the map while raining rockets on your enemies is something that can only be done in VR.

Quest 2 is the best price over performance headset you can get

The entry price is amazing, and has boosted a lot of vr game communities

Contractors is a blast now it has a decent community and games like population one are fantastic

Quest 2 really has changed the vr community, sure some of those are squeakers, but it dont matter

Also the other thing I love about the vr community, is most of the lobbies, people are generally really friendly

I see no movement limitations in Quake in VR or any game that dare more than annoying teleport.
I guess limitations is the wrong word, and I would say they use the current vr movement options for very unique gameplay. You can run around and sprint like normal but the dash and grinding give it an ease of access to many new players that can’t handle true locomotion.

They also developed a gameplay loop around the dash were you can use it more as strategic means to charge your shots instead of spamming the trigger. Currently this seems to be the meta. It reminds me of bunny hopping around your opponents in the old days. Also, hearing your opponents curse as you gib them ala warZone is an extra bonus.

If you like old skool feeling shooter but in VR, check out grapple tournament, there's even a demo

Wireless VR in this fidelity feels like a next generation leap. PS5 and Seriex X are just the same old pretty graphics and faster loading. I hope the Quest 2 takes off because it really is an incredible device for $300.

Is it really that good? I've come into some redundancy money, and if Quest 2 really is as good as some are saying here, I might have to take the plunge.

You can use your pc to boost gfx and do it wireless over your Internet, or use the link cable

I have a rift s and considering upgrading to quest 2, just for the 90hz and higher screen resolution, I just don't wanna use oculus store, well with link cable and wireless link to pc, thats no longer an issue

Thats the quest 2 biggest flaw, if you're not using the link functionality, you're locked to the oculus store, because fuck FB and their prices of games

I believe sideloading still works tho, can a quest 2 user confirm this?

I would say it is that good. I tried PSVR a couple years ago and I enjoyed it, but the wires and blurriness made it not worth keeping. I also have an Oculus Go which has always impressed me with its ease of use and not being tethered as a requirement. Going from those to the Quest 2 has been an exponential leap. The added degrees of freedom and quality of tracking are amazing for $299. I don't even have a pc that can run games to the headset, so I am almost entirely Quest 2 native software (and SideQuest) and it really is astounding. I'm blown away every time I put the headset on. This all in the midst of Cyberpunk being released and I could not care less. My only gripe is the black levels are not great. Can't wait to see what the Quest 2 and beyond end up doing for vr and I'm glad to see it's a big hit.

Do it if you can find one. The value you get for the price is unreal and VR is really coming into its own.

I will have to check it out after I get bored with Hyper Dash. I didn't think VR multiplayer was for me after playing Pavlov, and Population One. I think I prefer Arena style multiplayer in VR over realistic ones. Being able to drop 50 kills in a game a while hording power weapons is just what I need.

That's why they say you have to be eleven to play vr. It's not a joke. But I guess some people don't care about the well being of their children much.
I have a Go and the Quest 2. I let my 6 year old play on the Go and he does well with it. He plays the Star Wars droid game, the snowball game, and Coaster Combat quite a bit. I think the Go lacking the additional degrees of movement make that a way better choice for him. My 13 year old daughter plays Beat Saber and was really moved by The Key on the Quest 2. I don't think my son could handle that shit without hurting himself or others within seconds of trying either.

"He does well with it" but how did you find that out without risking it?

Seems a bit risky and inappropriate to be honest.

I like population one, but games are far to quick

My go to MP FPS is now contractors, gunplay feels great, movement is decent since u have jump and a slide mechanic.

I'm not an arena style gamer, never have been, they look fun tho

You seen solaris off world combat? Seems like a good middle ground

Population One is fantastic game but I just hate BRs. There hasn't been one that has held my attention more than a few games. I still played it a lot during the Alpha and gave the Devs feedback but couldn't get myself to buy it. It seems to be doing well population wise which is fantastic to hear. Game deserves it.

I almost bought Solaris when it came out but there were a few reviews that turned me off. Some limitations that I believe have been fixed. Honestly though I think Hyper Dash has set the VR arena bar to beat. Game is over 100k downloads and sits at 4.9/5 . When it comes out officially I will buy it in a heartbeat. Its free so give it a shot if you want.

I might check out Contractors eventually. This one seems to be getting a lot of great word of mouth so it has definitely increased its presence on my radar.

Plus it has mod support now, like pavlov, just had a ww2 weapon update and coop added, I believe vehicles are also coming

Seems a bit risky and inappropriate to be honest.
I sit next to and monitor him each time he uses the Go (I cast it to my phone as well).
Low risk and I can understand it could be considered inappropriate if there was no supervision. That's not the case.

It does get a bit dicey if he is smoking cigarettes while using the unit, but I only allow two or three cigs per session.
I mean, he's only six, so I'm gonna keep to half a pack until he's older like his sister. :messenger_winking:

ok got one today, damn this thing is next level compared to psvr, i'm gonna probably gift me a couple of games this evening, it is amazing (actually got it for a small side project i'm planning to do), anyway it is wonderful!

If people worry about long term effects for the eyes, just consider how many hours some spend staring at their phones. Yes both are technically a screen near to your face but in VR you're always changing your eye focus depending on the distance of the objects instead of keeping it fixed at the phone screen for hours and straining those eye muscles. (Though the same could be said about reading books, etc.)

That being said, take a 15 minute break every hour of any of these activities just to be on the safe side.

Welcome. Whats this side project? If it is game development related you need to get involved with Side Quest.

actually not, at least not this one. I'm working on some concept videos and demos for my hometown (Courmayeur in Italy), it's sport and tourism related, but i must say this little gadget has reignited in me the will to make a game, it's been a while since i moved out of programming jobs (best decision in my life actually :messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_winking_tongue: :messenger_winking: ) but it intrigues me... really nice piece of hardware

Check out the App Within. There are some great short videos that are along those lines. Their is a great one about fireworks in Singapore I believe. I also recommend the short documentary Zero Days which can be found in the app. A great baseline for you to get some ideas from.

Well PSVR is running off the PS4 which is using almost 10 year old tech.... Quest 2 is running off the Snapdragon XR2 which is the latest and greatest SoC for VR.

not so fast

Quest 2 is better than psvr thanks to state-of-the-art wireless tracking, higher resolution display and better controls. But although its chip is far better than the one in Q1, it's still no match to even PS4 slim (but not by much)

phone chips are really outdated 10 yo desktop chips, miniaturized and simplified enough for mobile

XR2 has almost as much power as an xbox one. Which means if it were to run Skyrim in VR, it'd look blurrier than on PS4 slim, unless they further simplified textures and geometry for higher resolution and framerate...

it's a marvel to see games like In Death, Apex Construct or TWD Saints and Sinners on Quest 2, but they're still graphically a bit more simple. And 7 yo PS4 is being phased out for PS5 and it'll take phone chips a good 5 years before they even begin to try to match that...

Question on SideQuest I keep forgetting to ask. If I download, for example Hyper Dash, do I have to re-download each time there is an update? Or does it update over wifi on the Quest once sideloaded?

I just ordered one at Best Buy, as all stores by me are offering in-store pickup for Jan 7th. My birthday was on the 18th and there was a little box to check to get 10 percent off as a birthday offer. Sweet deal at 300, even better at 270.
