13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim received high ratings and numerous awards, as well as surpassed 300,000 total sales in the year since its release.

“In addition to Shin Megami Tensei V and Project Re Fantasy (title tentative), which are in active development, in 2021 we’re also planning a ‘Persona 25th Anniversary’ commemoration project. Please look forward to it!”

Well deserved. Such a great game with good art style and story. I played in on the PS5 and it ran great on it.

Its honestly on my list of top 3 games ive played last year.

That's fantastic news. 13 Sentinels was the true winner of the best narrative or storytelling of 2020 (though only because I didn't finish Cold Steel 4). Hopefully more games like it keep getting made so we keep getting good alternatives to the pozzed shit that keeps coming out from the west.

Really cool game. I'm a fan of Vanillaware. I hope that whatever they do next is just as good as 13 Sentinels. Even my least liked game of theirs, Dragon's Crown was really good.

13 Sentinels is well deserved, I'm well known to be huge Nier Automata fanboy but this game managed take over as my personal GOTG.

Sales numbers aren't good considering they took 6 years to release this (not to mention this was all the company was doing at the time) and Dragon's Crown sold this much in Japan in the first month of release. I had hoped more people bought this game to fund Vanillaware even though I skipped it. Sad!

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Made me interested in returning to VNs after my days with games like Phoenix Wright and Hotel Dusk on the DS. time flies man

Will try to get it. It seems complicated to grab a physical copy but I'll try.

edit: I agree that could have done better. Being such a niche game, putting out a demo would have been a great move imo.

Past Vanilla games were niche as well, I'm still thinking it was the Vita betrayal (DC also sold well there) and the almost non-existent gameplay that killed potential buyers.

The gameplay is actually really engaging if you give it chance. I’m currently replaying in intense difficulty and it’s really fun.
Would you recommend it for a first playthrough? I like my games to feel challenging, but fair.

Betrayal? Are games still being released on the Vita? And well, I don't know about the gameplay, but it's true that with past Vanilla games you could look at a short video and know what the game had to offer. Imo this isn't the case with this one.

I would say go with intense from get go, it’s fun but is not crazy challenging like Maddening difficulty in Fire Emblem.

The game does a good job teaching you how the combat works in Prologue.

How many hours of gameplay am I going to get from this game in one playthrough? I thought this was like 99% VN.

Atlus released P5 on the Ps3 years after it was discontinued. The thing is Vanillaware games sold decently on the system and it would have helped seeing how little it has sold on the Ps4.

Yeah that would for sure have helped, DC sold like 300k in the first week iirc.

Btw...

Persona 2 remake? A dude can dream.
Although tbh I'll be happy with a definitive version of 3.

Mine was around 40 hours. The game is divided 3 sections.

Once you done the prologue, you choose which section you want to play.

I don't know... I like vanillaware stuff but vn... unless I see phoenix pointing at things and objecting I ain't buying.

I hope they get their next game funded. This felt like a passion project for them.

40 hours worth of gameplay in a full playthrough? As in you fighting things? Or that was how long it took you to finish the game?

That’s how long took me finish entire game.
Yeah I wanted to know how much gameplay (hours) this game had. Or at least how many battles I'll fight. From what I gathered the game was mostly a VN with a battle here and there.

This is not like Sakura Wars when you do battles at end of each chapter. You can choose to do more battles or do more of the story but you eventually need finish both battles and story section.

I wonder what their sales expectations were? Seems low but it is a niche genre mashup and it's a new IP.

They'd get a +1 from me if it was on PC and many others. I spend most of my gaming time just reading VNs.
