This game forced my to buy a Switch so I'd not have to but up with this AAA, release it now and finish it later mentality and I couldn't be happier. I'm enjoying finished, unbroken games like Astral chain, Octopath traveler and BOTW, either on carts with no extra downloads or extremely small download files and with very little BS. Yeah, the switch is under powered and Nintendo are fuckheads but at least they still hold that quality seal to some degree, even if not as well as prior to the internet age.

A game so hyped and so fucked that it literally drove me out of the Playstation ecosystem, at least for the time being. Sony should not distance themselves from these absolute incompetent and conniving idiots but make a deal and send a team like X-dev and an army of QA testers with a bundle of money to help them bring finish this game for their own sake, it's on them just as much as CDPR for letting this through. It's really tarnished my trust in them like nothing else after 24 years of being a core playstation owner with other consoles and PC being second.

You can do and see every single ending just by saving before the specified mission because you can even complete the romance quest before that and still see the missing ending hence why nothing you did in 80 hours of dialogues and content and gameplay and main story has an impact. Not what I'd call "choices matter". yes technically your choice removed one ending from the list that was given to you at the end. Wow so fucking awesome! jfc

Do you mean before the last mission? It would depend on what you did prior and how you did it. How different is it from saving when you hit the New Vegas strip?

Completely fucking serious, I don't even know what a copypasta is to be rightly honest.

Well, I was thinking about getting a Switch since it released to be fair but was put off by a list of factors and the pressure had being building with the AAA bullshit for a while before Cyberpunk but I've no apatite to turn on my PRO and only use my OG for netflix now. It was either stop gaming all together until they get their shit together cause Xbox/PC are in the same boat or buy a Switch and man, I'm glad I bought the Switch. It's a breath of fresh air to play finished, unaltered games again even when they are third party AAA games like Astral Chain but most importantly I don't feel like a sucker because the mega publishers bought hype, praise or built a really good social media image around a lack luster title but Cyberpunk was something different. They knowingly stole our money for an unfinished title or at least half broken if this is the finished product and Sony and MS let them away with it.

Fuck the lot of them cause this is just everything over the last five years amplified while Fallout 76 and Anthem were bricking consoles and Sony were egging on tiny developers into obvious traps because they caught hype and leaving them out to dry when the product doesn't meet the marketing, like they did with Hello Games and No Mans Sky. Not to mention the file sizes getting bloated as fuck while downloads stay at a slog, day one patches as a feature, paying full price for games that are designed as free to play micro transaction filled, timer mobile games or whatever the fuck you want to label them as well as this multiple editions of the same game bollachs and the constant patching with the only choice being to pause the patch or turn of the network even for single player games released years ago which makes no fucking sense.

Sony lost quality control some time ago now, MS never really had it at least since I've been playing their games since the 360 era and PC is the machine that you play games on secondly as it always was that just ends up being a headache and a pain in the wallet eventually. Nintendo, yeah, they're stuck in the past while trying to evolve the wrong areas and the store is a bigger mess than steam almost which kind of hurts my point about quality control but where it counts, they have kept a level of quality and have avoided basic lines that shouldn't be crossed to retain their reputation in the long run.

Cyberpunk is to AAA gaming and Sony/MS as Covid was to society. It shed light and focus on all the shitty things we've been ignoring and it did it with a bang.

Around level 27 now with 50 street cred, and got all legendary cyberware. I don't think legendaries start dropping from access points before level 30, so crafted them as I had loads of components. Walking to a cyberpsycho and killing it instantly is so unreal lol. Groups of enemies now die so fast as the hacks start spreading. It's so much fun to watch!

Legendary Ping is the mvp!

P.S: Still in Act 2. The main quest with Voodoo Boys was amazing!

Try playing Deadly Premonition 2, a third party Switch exclusive, then come back here with your impressions. Or Ark. Or Ghostrunner. Or anything running on Unity engine.

They run just as bad as Cyberpunk does on a PS4, if not worse.

So blame Nintendo, then proceed to play games only on your cellphone.

There are a lot of shit being release for the Switch in poor condition, and improved latter with patches. Just as much as its released for Xbox/PS4. Maybe more.

I think the game has a bit of a split personality in its design philosphy that mashed against the narrative.

CDPR wanted to create a tight cinematic narrative, but also wanted to give the player lots of freedom and make the avatar a blank slate. Thats why its all first person and they gave you a generic name like V. But that clashed with the narrative that they wanted to tell. So in the end we got this quasi freedom of 3 choices (nomad/Street Kid/Corpo) but all of it had to fit into the story being told.
It's actually exactly the opposite. RPGs in general have common issues in it's narrative because they're trying to make protagonist motivations work for wide range of characters in the same narrative ( and usually only "good guy" makes sense anyway).
( Take New Vegas for instance: why on earth would anyone even want to work for Legion? )
So you get a "blank slate" that can say two completely different things ( like Bloodlines, Tremere or Toreador) for the same purpose ( of bypassing specific dialogue persuasion check), and the npc will use the same generic response ( "Yes, you've persuaded me") for both.
It makes for really poor and disjointed dialogue flow, as player can instantly jump in between different personalities and npcs do not even respond to this.
Cyberpunk does this better than any rpg with it's lifepath dialogue, as they are used in specific circumstances where they make sense and every time they're used it involves some back'n'forth between V-npc, that makes it seamlessly fit into dialogue.
V was never intended to be a "blank slate" ( it would absolutely make no sense for this kind of personal main story). And lifepaths as something that will completely change who your character is. It's your background that's used to show you have better understanding of how specific part of this society works. And you can use this to your advantage in certain situations ( corpo understands finances, regulations, business hierarchy, their methods, etc).
They absolutely did a phenomenal job of implementing it: My corpo V never feels like he is switching personality at whim.
And I love how it makes dialogue and interaction feels more natural than robotic/utilitarian in other rpgs. When Judy starts humming a song at one point in her quest, streetkid V can just comment on it: "Hey, I know that song". It fleshes out both protagonist and npcs, without feeling obstructive on their interaction.
Your argument makes no sense because your background does not in any way affect the direction of the plot. As for "V", they simply used it as convenient name for both female/male/etc, and it makes a dialogue more personal/natural, than everyone saying "Hey, You".

Can't tell, since I never finished New Vegas. Had too many bugs and was crashing way too often on my old machine, so I gave up on it.
Im defintely a weirdo when it comes to all this.....and have had an extended new years increase in beer the last few days celebrating .....but in this mildly inebriated state my opinon seems to matter when normally I dont think it does, especially considering I have not completed the game ...not even close at 135 hours LOL.

I did finish New Vegas, begrudginly (not all the side crap like helping the farmer figure out his cattle problem) but once I found out where all the good loot was for energy weapons, including DLC, I wasnt inspired to go back and do any more paths than the single one I chose. As a souls enthusiast (and not much else normaly unfortunately), Bethesda gives me a little bit of what I crave in open world sandbox goodness that I cant get from souls; but even new vegas couldnt make me care enough about the characters to try another play through. I disliked the Legion from the start (come on I realize lots found ways to rationalize the crucifying and torture these fucks did but come on) and although the enclave was tempting because they were tech geeks....they were too rigid and cultish...the NCR in all their filth were the least of all evils. The obvious and only real option was to be my own boss (while trying to be as nice as posssile to everyone for as long as possible to get more content) and its hard for me to believe most people didnt try to do the same, as all the idiots around me were idiots...except that geek that likes energy weapons who I was spoiled to have to look up in order to get the only ending that was serviceable given I was energy weapons and NCR (begrudgingly.) Count me in the camp that did not want CDPR to make this into a NEW vegas factions BS spinoff and am thankful they did not. Been there done that and it was boring as they simply tried to denigrate all the factions and have no clear winner; which made me hate all of them. Vegas gave me all these choices but painted me into a corner. I got the only ending I figured I could stand and didnt finsih all the side quests (although I did most).

We'll see if Johnny and V can get me interested in the various endings ...my guess is that they will, as in this game the varous characters are competing to see how much they are awesome despite their flaws. Yes I realize Johnny is a terrorist, but since I havent finished yet my goal is to salvage his soul. Maybe that wont happen.

I do admit I will hate the time it takes to keeep skipping dialogue I have already seen if I do anohter playthrough. Thats why the majority of my participation migth end up being my first and best character. Wish that I could switch the difficulty up a bit now that Im gettin gud.

The fact that this game has a real actor I like doesnt hurt . In my limited experience this is the first time any game I have played had good acting; whomever played Geralt was servicebale and was obviously better than the shmuck they got to do that netflix series, and yes it would suck if Keanu sucked in his role, but my opinion so far is that he does not....he is a veteran who has learned from mistakes of the past and it shows in this game. I think it was cool he wore a wired up suit and the character animations were modelled after the way he moves in real life; has that been done before in games much?

I was an early CDPR fan, sort of, while waiting for Dark souls 2. I think I even bought a proper rig when my laptop didnt run Witcher 2 properly and justified it as DS1 would look better and Ds2 (but only on Ps3 at first) was just coming out when that occurred.. I tried witcher 1 right after but since the controls were even worse than TW2, especially on KB+M I didnt play TW1 longer than 4-5 hours. TW 3 still sits in my backlog after starting the prologue and nothing else. I will play TW3 more someday...I just couldnt get by the controls amd slow pace for what was supposed to be an ACTION RPG at the start and then various souls games and DLC interrupted my playthrough and I didnt have enough room on my C drive once DS3 and Sekiro came out LOL.

My 2 cents which I m sure no one cares about after all that LOL, is that although I liked vegas, Oblivion, and fallout 3 (didnt finish morrowind nor Skyrim for different reasons) Cyberpunk is a much better experience than New vegas and trumps all other NON and even some ACTION RPGs....hands down....because it balances the best of action and character building at the same time. I suspect this will be whyI wont like the TW3 as much...not even close. TOo many secret loot stashes Im getting rewarded by in this game, with great action and stealth.... where in Vegas I got next to nothing except that OP energy weapon near the chopper crash site and a couple others in the DLC...sniping sucked in new vegas. CP isnt perfect and I havent even finished yet but I can already tell the skill tree sucks and Im not going to end up liking that I am only going to be able to test out some of my best shit until its already over for the most part.

We'll see, I am really getting into the V character I chose and all the relationships she's made...even doing a male character to get with panam wont likely be as memorable as this first playthrough, as none will ever be...the virgin run is always the best. An obligatory 2nd playthrough is definitely happening when the PS5 gets an update..but might be anticlimactic. If I get a new PC .....again might double dip....but again depends on if this V gets to go the full 300 hours of exploration, or whether I start doing other characters....Ive never done too much new character stuff, even in SOuls.



its nice that female gets other variates of jacket and pants from men, at least jackets , maybe its then random as well and playing from new you would get again new clothes , but those looks cool

Finally getting back to the main story and doing the Voodoo Boys questline that takes you to Pacifica. Man, fuck these Voodoo Boys. Seem like real pieces of shit all around. Going to kill them all if I get the chance.
Ironically it is a very difficult yet rewarding one to try to stealth. One of the best. I couldnt quite do it as Iwas there at like level 20, but it was fun trying up until a miniboss. "C'mon out, you're not in trouble!??"

But, this is what broke you? Not Sony's years of anti-consumer practices, not that you can't even refund a digital purchase from Sony, not having to pay to play online, not their awful download network, not raising prices for PS5 games during a global pandemic, not extremely subpar product quality for expensive controllers and headsets? This goes for MS and Nintendo as well, not for using slave labor to build their consoles? I guess...

How about a recent Nintendo published title using top tier Nintendo IP? Hyrule Warriors is a technical disaster. It almost never hits 30 fps, LOD pop-in is absurd, the environments are hideous, resolution is low, and two-player split screen basically stays in the 10s (often low 10s anytime there is heavy action on screen). I still have fun playing it with my son, but lets not act like Nintendo games are always technically polished. Hell, even Breath of the Wild has some pretty gnarly framerate dips.

People claim the life paths aren't explored enough but you can role play your life path the whole way...

Corpo sides with Hanako for climax, Nomad with Panam and Street Kid with Johnny Silverhand.

Game must have some serious memory management issues, being probably the main cause of crashes

Was playing for some hours, performance tanked for a while, and then crashed.
When I started the game again, loaded recent save file, performance at that same place was much better than before the crash

Yes, you can roleplay as Corpo for 1 hour of the game. 30 minute prologue and 30 minute ending mission. The rest of the game you are a Streetkid.
Yeah, thats why I chose Streetkid for my first run

It was obviously set up to be the canon choice by trailers and story in general

After a battle go around looking for enemies still breathing then do a simple double jump and land on them. It'll kill them and sometimes pop off an head or a limb. It's somehow so much worse than just shooting them in the head.

Again, man, you're not posting in the spirit of the thread, you're being a douche and not clearly explaining what it is you expected of the game. In the story mode and big side missions dialogue is the MEAT of the game so complaining that a life path just gives you dialogue is kinda weird. Here, I'll throw a hypothetical at you, but I can tell you aren't interesting in engaging honestly... let's say if you picked Corpo for a play throught that
you were locked out of Panam's stuff because she'd refuse to work with you or she would work with you but would refuse to help you for the finale, would it be a better game because now you need to replay as Nomad to see it? Does keeping stuff from you improve a game for you?

are you sure about that? as i said disco elysium is a critically acclaimed rpg with no combat especially praised for its great writing and how different you can choose to be and the game is basically all different dialogue choices that don't change the outcome. just the way you deliver lines and the way people respond to you but the same things happen regardless.

Sounds about right. The amount of meaningful change in any game with choices is usually pretty limited. Alpha Protocol was great for choices but you went through all the same levels every time regardless. New Vegas is also great for choices but when it comes to the main story there's so many ways to do it, every faction will make you see the Boomers, Brotherhood, etc. with a few divergences like Caesar won't have you go to the Khans but instead the White Glove Society, for instance. As mini self contained stories the way New Vegas is is probably the pinnacle for choice but if you're talking the overall story it has two climaxes, one against NCR and one against the Legion.
 
Again, man, you're not posting in the spirit of the thread, you're being a douche and not clearly explaining what it is you expected of the game.

What's the spirit of this thread? Praising everything about the game and being allowed to criticize it? You can love a game and still point out flaws, right?

you were locked out of Panam's stuff because she'd refuse to work with you or she would work with you but would refuse to help you for the finale, would it be a better game because now you need to replay as Nomad to see it? Does keeping stuff from you improve a game for you?

100%, yes. There should also be exclusive content for Corpo lifepath. For example, Corpo V is familiar with Konpeki Plaza. This knowledge should alter The Heist mission in a bigger way, maybe even allowing Jackie to survive and remain for the rest of the game. Jackie's role wouldn't have to be major but he could still be there to make the player feel like a "shit, my Corpo experience saved my friend". The way the game is setup right now makes the Corpo lifepath completely useless. But I'm happy to see at least one person here likes it.

I can think of many things that I would have loved if it was implemented in the game. But considering the game's scope, I'm fine with how it is. Like, eventualy they had to ship it. And its not like its lacking content, far from it.

Giving unique dialogue options for each life path during the whole campaign, including sidequests and gigs, must have been a huuuge undertaking already.

I´m far from a completionist and I really enjoyed that game. But content-wise it feels a little bit lackluster. I´m on my first playthrough and I´m at 72 hours. There is nothing left to do for me. I finished all missions, saw 3 endings (sure I could go for the other endings), finished all gigs, and only left a couple of NCPD missions. 72 hours is good. Don´t get me wrong and all the things you mentioned are correct. But I can´t help but feel a little bit underwhelmed by the scope of the whole game.

I was sure this is going to be a game where you could easily pour in 120 hours without seeing everything it has to offer. Just like the Whitcher 3 did.... I really hope the big patches will bring more content and life to the game. Because I want to keep playing.

i think it's fair to criticize the amount of player agency the game has. you play the witcher 2 and act 2 is completely different depending on what you choose. or the way you get your ending on tw3 is not as transparent as cp. i was one of the people that liked both of those things too. but also many people hated those things.

this is not only a problem of scope time and resources. this is also a design decision. the game is big and most people won't replay it (hell most people didn't even finish tw3 that's why they made it smaller) so they made it so you can play most of the content in one playthough. this is not a new trend. every telltale game, games that were basically known for choices. "the choose your own adventure games!" were lineal as hell too.

that's why people need to understand that different dialogue choices are also part of the role playing experience even if those doesn't change the outcome of everything you do (disco elysium as i said). they work if you immerse yourself in the world and go with the flow. if you are looking at them like a spreadsheet everytime you make a choice thinking "it doesn't matter it won't change anything" you are not going to have a good time in any rpg. and even though cp may have less player agency that previous cdpr games it does have more player agency that a lot of other games. it could have more though but that doesn't mean the game is uncharted.

i think i'm finally gonna go back to the main story. i'm still at "Playing for time" with the guy waiting for me at the diner. been just running about doing side stuff. could keep doing that. i just went back cause all the stuff in my journal are high level for me so don't feel ready to do them yet.

I've no idea how that's possible. 161 hours in/hard difficulty: done all side gigs&quests, still left in Act 2( Takamura last mission), also left with Judy's&Riven's last mission ( did almost none NCPD tasks).
Witcher, with both expansions, in comparison took me about ( on hardest difficulty with Enhanced Edition overhaul/mod) roughly about 200 hours.

I went with Corpo for my second run. I felt like Corpo maybe twice outside of the prologue. It's a common complain about the game.

And how would that save Jackie's life when he died from a bullet wound?
I absolutely get in every appropriate situation a sense that the player can respond and use it sometimes use this to his advantage. I persuaded that guy from the Clouds to reveal info on Evelyn by tricking him she's still a valuable Arasaka asset. Or managed to fool an office clerk into checking some files while I slipped past security. Also recognized straight away that Militech chip was bugged. And there are plenty of examples like this.
You become an urban merc/edgerunner: that is who you are in this setting. Similar to how if you pick a paladin or a necromancer in fantasy games, you are still "only" an adventurer.
 
When I pick up a new gun I can't seem to equip it or cycle through guns I already have. Anyone else getting this?

Edit: Seems like I have to equip rather than pick up, or it disappears

I Have no idea how you are doing this. Do you just run around and look at stuff for hours without doing any missions? I play on normal difficulty. Can´t be such a difference in hours just based on difficulty or could it?

Well, I was thinking about getting a Switch since it released to be fair but was put off by a list of factors and the pressure had being building with the AAA bullshit for a while before Cyberpunk but I've no apatite to turn on my PRO and only use my OG for netflix now. It was either stop gaming all together until they get their shit together cause Xbox/PC are in the same boat or buy a Switch and man, I'm glad I bought the Switch. It's a breath of fresh air to play finished, unaltered games again even when they are third party AAA games like Astral Chain but most importantly I don't feel like a sucker because the mega publishers bought hype, praise or built a really good social media image around a lack luster title but Cyberpunk was something different. They knowingly stole our money for an unfinished title or at least half broken if this is the finished product and Sony and MS let them away with it.

Fuck the lot of them cause this is just everything over the last five years amplified while Fallout 76 and Anthem were bricking consoles and Sony were egging on tiny developers into obvious traps because they caught hype and leaving them out to dry when the product doesn't meet the marketing, like they did with Hello Games and No Mans Sky. Not to mention the file sizes getting bloated as fuck while downloads stay at a slog, day one patches as a feature, paying full price for games that are designed as free to play micro transaction filled, timer mobile games or whatever the fuck you want to label them as well as this multiple editions of the same game bollachs and the constant patching with the only choice being to pause the patch or turn of the network even for single player games released years ago which makes no fucking sense.

Sony lost quality control some time ago now, MS never really had it at least since I've been playing their games since the 360 era and PC is the machine that you play games on secondly as it always was that just ends up being a headache and a pain in the wallet eventually. Nintendo, yeah, they're stuck in the past while trying to evolve the wrong areas and the store is a bigger mess than steam almost which kind of hurts my point about quality control but where it counts, they have kept a level of quality and have avoided basic lines that shouldn't be crossed to retain their reputation in the long run.

Cyberpunk is to AAA gaming and Sony/MS as Covid was to society. It shed light and focus on all the shitty things we've been ignoring and it did it with a bang.
