I imagine it was since I can't find it. That was one of my favorite threads on Gaf, it gave me countless laughs at the absurdities of this world. Hopefully the Ree thread is not next on the chopping block.

but the comments are inline with what Sidney Powell and Lin Wood are commenting on parler. It may be fringe, in a sense, but in another it is in some sense 'mainstream'.
I too think what they're suggesting is unlikely, and questionable.

There’s no end to the loonies that can be highlighted and made fun of, but ultimately it’s a breeding ground for hate. We’re a gaming forum first and foremost, and I’m not interested in hosting that sort of content at this time.
As someone who participated often in that thread I respectfully disagree that it was a breeding ground for hate but do actually agree that it has no place on a gaming forum.
I think personally it gets to the stage where talking about that crazy cl**n w**ld stuff is actually more appealing than gaming side which is not good for the site I think.
I think your logic would also apply to the ResetEra thread in Communities section also. It's not really about gaming and is often just used to dunk on people who overshare their personal lives on Era. Again, I say this as someone who participates in that thread.
Would you consider ditching that thread also? I think it meets the same criteria as the other one except the crazy stuff is being sourced from a single competitior forum instead of from the world at large. It seems actually even more personal and could potentially be labelled bullying or harassment or hateful from that perspective.
Just a thought.

Given this site's history and that old posters keep returning from Era, people will continue to talk about the subject with or without a dedicated thread. So the alternative of having Era-related threads filling the off-topic forum on a weekly basis would not be very pleasing. I think that thread should stay, in some form or another.

I agree that it serves an ongoing purpose, but I’ve never been comfortable with the intense following of some of their users that tends to happen as a natural consequence of that thread’s existence.

Plenty of threads get pulled here for being low quality so it wouldn't see it as censorship.
When ReetardEra were doing their Cyberpunk bullshit or going after THQ or 3D Realms etc then, for me, that is gaming news. It's a gaming discussion that should be on gaming side. If people want to dunk on them for gaming related crap then that's all good. They seem to have the ear of many in the industry and that should be fair game.
If the cl**n w**ld thread is gone because of what it was then a thread where people dig in to randomers non-gaming comments and take the piss seems a bit worse.
Personally I'd be thinking the only reason the ResetEra specific thread would be allowed to remain is because of personal beef with that forum and those who are in charge there. So who really cares if the hate is directed at them, right?
No reason why the video game specific drama they cause can't get its own threads and people can dunk on morons who want to cancel Harry Potter games etc there.

This I agree with, even though I'm guilty of having done that at some point too.
Threads of that nature kind of become their own little echo chambers as users get too confortable at pointing fingers at others or continuously get fed with never-ending negativity. This escalates into more aggressive rhetoric over time, and I'm under the impression that posts there have become more aggressive generally than what they used to be like one or two years ago. Similar to what happens on Era itself, ironically.

Same could be said of the other thread though. It was a collection of mad, and actually published, articles and batshit crazy tweets. In many ways exposing the hypocrisy and double standards of our media and our culture. All kept in one place because 50 odd threads a week on woke nonsense is too much.

The difference is that Era discussion is far more relevant to Gaf than broader woke culture talk. First reason because Era is a gaming forum too. Much of what happens there is relevant to gaming discussion, as you've already recognized. But also because of both sites' past. The community has been split into two, but not truly consolidated into that site as it keeps bleeding members, many of them who generally end up getting back to Gaf.

Do you think NeoGAF is at risk of being "purged" as a result of all that has happened?
I saw a good few people saying that there was a direct link between Gamergate and the events in the USA this past week. One of the people pushing that idea has previously run for Congress and seems to be very heavily involved in political campaigning. I think its very likely that if they have the ear of big tech companies or are involved in any kind of Internet crackdown then surely the word "NeoGAF" would be on a few lists.
Is it possible they would push for the site to be shut down and could potentially be successful?

There has to be some potential that it affects us here.
Sure, maybe its nothing and easily dismissed but we've seen a number of attempts to link gaming communities to radicalization and now we are seeing what looks like the beginnings of an online purge.
Does it matter? Stuff goes down in Washington and there are "gamers are involved" articles up within a couple of days. That's not just a random coincidence.
Anyway you asked who is talking about it in 2021 and I've shown you 2 examples. There are a few more.
That's something that is being talked about and that was my only point. Plus asking if it could have an impact here.
