GTA V Enhanced for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S might use Rockstar’s updated Red Dead Redemption 2 RAGE engine.

As posted on the GTA Forums, Tez2 (who has been spot on when it comes to Rockstar-related info in the past), found new GTA V game data that was recently added. These new ‘structs’ seem to mention RDR2’s Rage engine instead of the game’s reworked 2014 engine. The refined 2018 version of the RAGE engine supports physically based rendering, pre-calculated global illumination, volumetric clouds, and fog values.

The insider does mention that this could solely suggest that only the UI will make use of the new engine, while the rest of the PS5/XSX version will run in the older engine.

Personally I wish they'd stop messing with GTA V and make GTA VI already.

The game makes so much cash.

I would guess they are upgrading it for GTA Online only for the next 10 years of its life.

When they bring GTA VI out i wonder how its going to interact with GTA Online if at all.

Wait they would remake the entire game in the 2018 engine? Wouldn’t this be really unnecessarily hard to do? I dunno I don’t know how this sort of stuff works.
I won't be quite so much as remaking it. I would guess it's more like taking everything made in a v1.1 engine, moving it to a v1.2 engine, and tweaking anything that needs it. It will still be a large amount of work to make sure it all works as it should, because things inevitably changed alongside the engine's additions, but it's an in-house engine so as long as not too many people who worked on both left then it shouldn't be too difficult.

It's likely more complicated than when Skyrim was upgraded to Special Edition, as that was largely a backbone/behind the scenes upgrade.

If they re-skinned stuff and then had it running with PBR and all that other jazz, it would probably look like a totally different game. The animations and general game system being identical would give it away but yeah could potentially be really good. Don't expect RDR2 level visuals though, that should go without saying unless they really do rework the entire game.

They're not gonna remake shit, just stop. The same company who couldn't even release a pro patch is gonna remake the game in an updated engine, all things which would take an easy 2 years - instead of working on GTA VI & others? Nah bruh.

Expect just the UI part to be true. They can still improve some things in the old version for consoles, I mean hell, they could just enable what's on PC. But I don't believe they'll put any work into it otherwise.

I don't believe for a second they are reworking on the graphic of GTA 5 how lazy they are. They released 2 games in 8 years. Two fucking games. I loved RDR2 but come on it's not a tiny company, it's the equivalent of Ubisoft, simply they won't risk anything and fuck off fans.

2 games in 8 years is on track for the size they are producing. It usually takes 3-5 years to design a game from the ground up.

This was the original trailer, can anyone see any hints of GI or PBR etc?

No but I'll tell you what I do see. Footage that was captured on the 360 for the 2011 reveal trailer of the original versions. No, seriously, that's how lazy and complacent Rockstar is now, trying to sell preorders for a current gen port of a game released 7 years ago with footage captured 9 whole years ago.

Anyone who thinks they're going to put anything more than the bare minimum effort into this port is a fool.

But will it look better than NVR or Realism?

I’d be ok with load times like this if it ran twice as fast compared to this sub-10 FPS video:

So remove content?
The problem isn't the amount of content. It's not even what it's stored on. It's that the game phones home to do...something...even if you're only loading into singleplayer. Internet disconnected? From titlecard to in-game in ~30 seconds off my dogshit slow 5400RPM HDD. Connected? Better go make a cup of tea because you're not even going to see Franklin's yee yee ass haircut, let alone load into online, for atleast 2-3 minutes.

Im still absolutely baffled they never release a pro patch for the ps4 pro.

Yep... That's exactly it... Or we can call it "port" since assets and game logic are already done anyway

If this was just going to be a bare minimum port wouldn't they have released it by now. The unspecified 2021 release date tends to suggest a more comprehensive upgrade.

Ask me about my wife's perfect butthole
Most pointless rumor ever. It would be assumed that.. when upgrading an older game.. you'd likely use the latest engine to do that.

wcftech sucks.

Speaking of which... Where is the next gen Skyrim for me to buy for the fourth time?
First there was Doom, champion and allfather to the pantheon of ports, and it made its name known to all
Then there was Resident Evil 4, and it earned its place among the port gods
After came Skyrim, and the gods accepted it into its ranks
Now comes GTA5, eager to rank among its forebears
