Patronizing the people who enjoy Gamepass is one of the problems.
It's not only about people who have time or limited budgets: everyone has limited time and budget, it doesn't matter if yours is 100x mine.
The thing is that everybody needs to choose what to spend their time and money on. Gamepass allows you to remove one of those limiting factors, budget, and get access to games you wouldn't play otherwise.

Let's talk about personal experience: I'm mostly a single player and RPG gamer with the occasional FPS thrown in the mix. I enjoy playing sports and fighting games but it's been a long time since I've bought one of those because when I buy a game, I won't prioritize those. Now, looking at my XSX I'll usually play a match of FIFA, PES or Tekken when I have 10 minutes to spare. Without Gamepass I wouldn't be able to do that. In a way, it reminds me of the PSX, when everybody pirated games and you had access to more games than you were able to play, but now, I can do that legally.
This is a good example of the 'value' something like GamePass can give the gamer/consumer. It's absolutely a positive thing for gamers today. My only concern with it is over the long term. If it stayed being older games for example and grew that way I don't think that would be bad at all. But...if it expands to where you're getting some and then most games day one...that kind of thing. THEN I have some concerns about how the impact on the industry and in the end, the gamer, would pan out. I don't think it would be healthy for gamers or the industry if it went that way. As it is now, I think it's a great value for gamers. Kind of what Sony has done with that "PS Plus" collection, though that's on a smaller scale. That, for example, is letting me try and play Monster Hunter World, which I never bought and wasn't going to buy now. I may replay Days Gone as well since it's included.

So I totally get this and I think anyone looking objectively would say that GamePass is a cool thing for gamers. I think the hate it receives is driven mostly by people's fears that it will turn into a monster that negatively impacts the quality of games and the industry as a whole. We'll just have to see about that, but unless Microsoft starts REALLY expanding GamePass and its offerings...it will be a moot point. I don't think there's negative impact on gaming and the industry if you have a service like GamePass that is just giving you access to a lot of games that are "old." What I mean by "old" is like 6 months or a year or more after release. At that point, most who were going to buy the game new already have and so I don't think it will have that negative impact everyone is so worried about. ;)

That's crazy! I can't see Sony not building on the success of this masterpiece, especially that the Mongols had 3 invasion attempts to Tsushima.
3 invasion attempts. Three games. Bam.

I'm not sure I agree with that.

Most people saying positive things about gamepass highlight that a major benefit is to let them try games they weren't sure about buying, or weren't on their radar, and I think it is fair to say that is semantically no different to what we - as consumers - had for free when publisher's respected our buying prowess to grovel with full level demos, like Batman Arkham Ayslum - only now they've analysed all our data they've removed demos and still found a way to inspire gamers on mass to buy games (at discount) they'll never play, or pay for Gamepass.

We only have finite hours we can game, so in reality gamepass 'games' will mostly be getting sampled at the depth of demos, and then discard. Given the age of the games and their previous price on sale, the sub price would have allowed the subscriber to buy a physical copy of one game they played longer than a demo - every two months at least - and unlike gamepass, where access to the game ends when the content is removed, or the subscription lapses. That physical game can sit in the collection forever, or even be sold on to fund the next game - if you aren't someone that believes in devs getting paid bonuses.

Gamepass is the enemy of demos - which in a day of £70 games and cyber... - we desperately need to return IMHO, not doubling down on paying for a service that economically can't be about delivering good/fun gaming in the long run, as that is too high a risk business model. In much the same way the games offered with PS+ back on PS3 were far more generous than the typical giveaways on PS+ for Ps4. Gamepass will be a lesser proposition when it has far more subscribers.

I have a lot of interest in game demos - because it increases my gaming engagement that aids me buying and enjoying more games like it did in the PS3/360 gen - but I have no desire to ever have a sub to a service like gamepass - while gaming is still rapidly changing and in its infancy for there to still be hardware generations.

/sorry for the rant :)

PS5 already looks unbeatable

For a while I thought this console generation would be different. Sony seemed to be floundering a little, barely saying anything about the PS5 while Microsoft pushed forward the narrative of the Xbox Series X being the most powerful console, Game Pass grew and grew, and huge acquisitions were made. Yet, even after snapping up Skyrim and Fallout dev/publisher Bethesda, now it’s hard to see how PlayStation won’t continue to lead by quite a margin – at least in powerful console space.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is the first so-called “big” PS5 exclusive to arrive from Sony in 2021, set to launch in the first half of the year. Insomniac has already managed to dazzle on the PS5 with the cross-gen Spider-Man Miles Morales, but Rift Apart should let the studio showcase what is possible on PS5 when only targeting the next-gen system – although year-one games rarely get the absolute best out of a new console. Footage has looked superb and the Ratchet & Clank games are always great fun.
In the second half of 2021 Sony has a trio of absolute barnstormers set to release, with Gran Turismo 7, Horizon: Forbidden West, and God of War: Ragnarok. While Forbidden West is confirmed to be coming to PS4, too, and Sony hasn’t clarified the release platform situation with Ragnarok, there’s no denying that sequels to three of PlayStation’s biggest franchises all within a year of the PS5 launch is great going and sure to make fans extremely happy.

I think Sony should not put HFW with GOW Ragnarok in the same year, let HFW get the 2021 GOTY and GOW Ragnarok get the 2022 GOTY.

Sony needs to stop competing with itself like TLOU2 and Ghost of Tsushima for 2020 GOTY and never put HFW and GOW in the same year. It's humiliating to the rest of the incompetent studios.

Lords of the Fallen 2 Gets New Logo, Will Be CI Games’ Biggest Project

Lords of the Fallen 2 is our largest project in terms of the whole of CI Games. The previous game was a full-priced, full-featured release and we’re approaching the next one with an even larger scope. The sequel will move the franchise to dark fantasy and will offer a revised and challenging combat system.
Our strategy at CI Games changed significantly vs the one we had for years 2017- 2019. While Lords of the Fallen 2 is fully priced, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 will stay mid-price. We appreciate having the ability to work on a mixture of games via our 2 separate teams and our many external partners from all around the world.

I really enjoyed the first one. Have somewhat high hopes for the sequel.

GT7 confirmed delayed until 2026 😔

Ask me about my wife's perfect butthole
To be honest, I expected much more competition around December 2019.
It's worse for MS than I would have predicted for sure; but I just saw no chance of them really competing in the typical "generation win" measures.

Sony is pretty much where I expected; incredibly popular.. fantastic product.. decent launch, crazy lineup on the horizon. $400 DE was crazy unexpected though.. that was a nice fucking surprise (That saved me $100 lol)

So what's your prognosis for MS in the future? Will they drop out of the console space will MS go out of business? Sony buyout?

It's been confirmed officially by Sony UK and other branches that VRR and ALLM is coming to Sony X90H (XH9000/X900H), but for more details: (timestamped)

Seems like Sony USA support team did fucked it up.

So the x90h will use its own proprietary version of VRR (not freesync)? Sony better add official VRR to the PS5 for use on 3rd party TVs.

I’m not liking the delay as it is, MS had it day one working perfectly.

No, they already have a version that's working for PS5 but not released yet, and they're working on the HDMI forum official VRR.

Finally PS5 pre order started in India.

And it got sold out in seconds.

Something weird is going on PS4 took 1-2 weeks to sell out same quality.

Stuff selling out in India is unheard of as people tend to quibble around quite a lot, making sure everything is all right before pulling trigger.

VRR is mostly gimmick for consoles, you can live without it.

People make it sound like it is The most important feature ever.

Maybe stop gaming if super minor feature like this is too much to wait for some months?
