Opinions are opinions, but I have a hard time picturing how TLOU2 has swept the awards the way it has on the merits of the game content. It's probably going to go down as under appreciated in its time by the vocal internet users. Message boards will probably be more receptive to it in the future. I still think a lot of people had their minds made up from the leaks.

As far as expectations from mainstream media regarding their GOTY choice I can see why they'd choose a big budget AAA as GOTY as anything that resembles movies seem to be their objective standard to quality, but I'd expect more "gamer" focused outlets with their fingers on the pulse to go for a game like Hades.

It is what it is. Congratulations to Naughty Dog.

Kinda like how box office grossing combined with ticket price inflation messes with the "highest grossing movie ever", this list would be better served as a percentage. "[Game] won [X]% of GOTY awards that year" to provide clear context.

With that said... Uncharted 4 at 6? Might as well throw the list away.

Slow year that one...
Bayonetta 2 was out, it actually goes more to prove how meaningless these awards are.

Also, as many already pointed out, just summing the total count It's pretty stupid, cause competition year to year is vastly different and so is the number of total awards assigned.

In the end, the awards reflect public perception and you need to look no further than Titanfall 2, which released the same year, to realize how Publishers are way more responsible for the public perception of their games than any sort of media.

I dont really know, the website Gameawards.net is clearly different from gotypicks.blogspot.com. I mean Gameawards seem to collect a lot more awards than it. It seems the criteria is different for both of them on what counts. For years it was always gotyblogspot, why out of sudden gameawards is the one to go? is it because TLOU2 won more awards according to it? Also some of these GOTY awards are just mere articles written by one person, meh..i dont know if this qualify as same GOTY award like Gamespot or IGN where it is voted collectively by a the staff which is more than 10 people.

In short i think this whole game awards tracker is just inflated and inaccurate.
For example it says 2016 Uncharted 4 won, where if you count the prestigious awards and the important big outlet awards rather than simple articles made by one person then the clear winner will be Overwatch.

Yeah Naughty Dog is insane. No idea how they do it, but they definitely are the best studio out there and Playstation can be thankful to have them. Kind of the first thing you think about when you think about Playstation exclusives and one of the main reasons I buy a Playstation console.
Though I would still like it more if they were multiplat so more people could get to enjoy the masterpieces, but thankfully Naughty Dog has the most talented people in the industry so the games always run beautifully on the Playstation consoles.

And in a few years we will get to see what we can expect from them for the PS5! Super excited for it

Titanfall 2 was 2016, not 2014 like Dragon Age or Bayonetta 2. EA thought it was a good idea to release it one week after Battlefield AND one week before Call of Duty.

Result: total bomb. People luckily discovered it later though, through sales and word of mouth.

I'm still salty that witcher 3 is considered the best game of 2015 and not bloodborne
Doesn't this mean they're on a downward trajectory from the previous lou game?

I'm salty witcher 3 is considered game of the generation and not bloodborne
Well to your defense, if the Witcher 3 is winning that much and is considered game of the generation or game of the decade. Doesnt that help Bloodborne case that it came at the same year as it? i mean this can be used to excuse the game not winning GOTY and putting it ahead of games that won like God of War or Sekiro, right? I mean ofcourse you would rather it won it and got the top spot, but if you get the 2nd spot in your class along with the 1st being the first student in the whole college this should make you feel slightly better as you are 2nd to the won who won it all. Makes you look like the best 2nd? or the 2nd that could potentially be 1st in other classes? I mean what if Bloodborne lost 2016 to Uncharted or Overwatch? what if it came in 2018? it will never beat RDR2 or God of War in GOTYs! At least the game it lost to got ahead of them.
Something like that..LOL :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy:
