forgot to add monster hunter RISE
and dude MH has an awful framerate on ps4 pro , its like below 30 fps if i remember correctly
You mean World? Yeah that game run like shit on base ps4. Ps4 pro was better, although sometimes it was all over the place too.

Rise on switch is better. On handheld it's almost always 30fps. On docked it has a weird bug where it goes above 30fps and the stutters are more noticeable. Also the bug where ot stutters like crazy if you have a huge friendlist. Kinda wack that bug.

Most PC games default to 60, so you notice the change more when you switch to 30fps. But a 30fps game on PC will play the exact same as a 30fps on console.
Yeah sounds reasonable. Guess I just became used to it.

It's fine. Uncharted 4 for example is 30 fps and it looks and feels great. The motion blur does the job to make the image appear like if there were more frames data.
I sometimes prefer better graphics even if it costs 30fps.
In fact, when I had 240hz monitor and did some comparisons in doom 2016, 240hz/fps looked EXACTLY the same without motion blur as 60fps with motion blur. Ofcourse it felt better but it does not matter as much for every single game.
Motion blur just tries to fill in for the missing data since our eyes don't see 30fps. In fact probably more than 240hz too. But at 240hz, it felt there is not much information left inbetween the frames so motion blur did nothing

I can't even tell the difference most of the time, I mean I do but it doesn't really substracts from my experience. As long as the framerate is locked or stable I'm fine. Be it 30, 60 or 120.

Only notice performance issues on some very specific games so far like Control and days Gone on base launch PS4.

Name four.

Why do all these franchises keep using the word "Rise" all the time?

Okay I might be starting to see a pattern here.:goog_relieved:

We've had 24fps for film for all this time and the current tech for TVs makes low framerate content look like shit. Is that the fault of the media or the display device?
Low framerates have always looked like shit. And the comparison to film is retarded, in film it's bearable because film isn't interactive. 24FPS with decent motion blur can look...okay...as long as the refresh rate is a multiple of 24. As soon as you ask me to control basically anything on screen however that low framerate is laid bare. It's 2020 2021, 60FPS should be the bare minimum target.

I disagree that 30fps is a low framerate, below 30 is.

It kills my eyes and my brain seeing all these boring topics about "oh my god, 30 fps is bad, my life is ruined".

30 fps is PERFECTLY FINE when stable on consoles. Stop the drama. I don't give a shit about 60+ fps on consoles and I will choose forever better graphics vs 60 fps.

You want real "low" framerate ? Play the N64 and enjoy 10-15 fps.

Help yourself:
1) Get a PC for 720+ fps
2) Enjoy life

You're welcome.

Nah bro. 30fps are fine in some games, but come on, imagine playing DMC or DOOM Eternal at 30fps... That would really hurt the experience.

Have you ever played a game at 60 or 120 fps? It's noticeable, believe me.

I'm playing The Last of Us Part 2 these days and my eyes are killing me! I'm trying to avoid camera movements at all costs.

I think that games i played all those years which run at 30 fps and below caused my myopia(especially, playing TES:Oblivion with 15-20 fps for more than 100 hours :messenger_tears_of_joy:). You don't believe it? Here is a literature review about screen time(use of digital devices) and myopia relation: link to scielo.br. They reviewed 9 studies with more than 100.000 participants in total. In conclusion, they can't say it's related for sure but they suspect it may has some effect on it. Maybe someone will do a study about 30 fps vs 60 fps games and their effects on eye problems in future. I think 30 fps does more damage than screen time or resolution.

I think devs should leave this old crap behind. I can handle some low resolution textures here and there. But i can't take this 30 fps bs anymore! It's not healthy at all.

PS: Great game so far btw.
How do you do with 24 FPS movies? I fucking hate motion in movies. The Transformers movies big fight scenes feel like a game stuttering when I watch it. That said, 30 FPS is 25% faster and not too bad in some games. I haven't noticed any issues in the new Spiderman on PS5. I plan to play TLoU 2 next so I will see if that game is problematic.

Movies are shot with a steady camera. The motion is in front of the camera and when the camera moves it's slowly and steady - or else people will get sick of watching movies.

In games, you're the cameraman and if you play your games above standard sensitivity, to move faster - 30fps will make you sick.

I agree op. However tlou2 is a bad example. It runs preclude smooth at 30fps surprisingly. Try god of war now that is disgusting at 30fps

Let the silver lining of this generations cross-gen pitfall be the erosion of 30fps games. Let even the casual gamer embrace and accept the rightful place of 60 frames per second.
But stable 30fps is fine. Same persons on here that were barking this shit are nowhere to be found now when they experienced the 60fps with the new consoles. Just shows you how people like to talk out of their arse and not out of an experience. This discussion will always be a waste of time especially with the kind that I mentioned.

Anyone who disagrees doesn't PC game or have a next gen system. I hope Elden Ring is 60 on XSX or I will have to get a new PC sooner than later.

Have you not seen my post history? It’s pretty much my second favorite game this generation. But let’s be honest, not everyone’s going to be making 100 million dollar movie games with that level of polish every day. Ghost of Tsushima nearly felt like Eurojank at times and it feels Interpolated at 60 on PS5. To act like every developer is going to suddenly put naughty dog levels of attention to animation detail is pipe dream unless machine learning REALLY blows up to generate movements in real time and most likely that won’t be till next generation.

Its the sound of 1000s of frothing at the mouth Sony fans furiously typing up dissertations on why 30fps is perfect for games and super extra cinematic.

Ghost of Tsushima, Days Gone, Spider-Man, Demons Souls, God of War etc all have 60 FPS modes so I don't know what narrative you're trying to push? As if games from MS, Nintendo and 3rd parties are all 60 fps?

Anyway, I'm playing Demons Souls mostly at 60 fps but when I switch to 30 fps my eyes adjust quickly and I stop noticing it after a minute or two.

There is some kind of "weight" to your movement that I don't mind at all. Maybe that's what they mean by "cinematic".

Uhm, no... Wait what? - Why would I do that?

Don't know what debate you're having.. But it's clearly not with me.

I remember setting my dreamcast to pal60, and even the jump from 50 to 60 was so much better.
Very noticeable! Arh, the Dreamcast - the last true arcade console. I have a 1998 first edition Japan produced Dreamcast - so I know exactly what you mean.

As John Linneman said: "This generation feels like the Dreamcast and PS2 era"

I hope he's right.

I bought a 164 hz monitor a month or two before TLOU2 came out and played everything at insanely high framerates. I was worried that TLOU2 would be impossible to adjust but i thought they did a great job making it responsive and not feel like a slideshow.

More recently, i went from Demon Souls at 60 fps to the 30 fps version of Miles and had a really rough time initially. But after 10 minutes i forgot it ever bothered me.

I tried 30fps mode in MM a couple of times but it is just absolute trash compared to 60fps RT mode. Keep in mind too that MM is 1440p (but can drop to 1080p dynamically) in 60fps RT mode. It looked great on my monitor.

Oh yes buddy, I play on consoles and PC, I clearly see the difference but it just don't bother me at all, 30 fps is enough for me (I don't play competitive FPS) as long it's well implemented and not stuttering.
A lot of games are running at 60 fps on my PC but going back to 30 fps on consoles where I play the most do nothing to my eyes.
Never tried 120 fps yet, I don't have the hardware.

What I find disturbing is that 37fps/74hz isn´t standard yet in the console world, cheapo lcd monitors have been 75hz capable for decades so it´s not something that would add to TV price tags, the difference in smoothness is gigantic.

If 30fps could cause myopia, then i'm afraid watching movies at 24fps, your whole life, did most of the damage.

30fps is just an unfortunate reality for some games and some developers on consoles. Thankfully, more and more, 60fps is becoming the norm.

I tend to notice frame rate fluctuations much more than the average person, and It’s something that kills the immersion. Somehow, I find that framerate spikes are much more jarring at 60fps than at 30fps. The higher the framerate is, the more my mind/eyes expects total fluidity.

So, I rather prefer a totally locked 30fps game that one at 60fps that is spiking constantly.

Invest in a new TV, Samsung has gaming motion plus which activates motion interpolation into 30 fps content smoothing it out without a massive input lag hit. I play all 30fps games with this on and you'd be surprised how effective it is at removing that 30fps jarring feeling

Rumor is LGs 2021 TV's that have the upgraded chip will have their own version of it. Hopefully Sony jumps on this since they usually have the least artifacts.

Yeah, most people prefer 60fps over 39fps, but:

“it’s really hurting my eyes and I’m concerned about the long term effects on my health”

Oh fuck off dude, what a load of shite!
