Resident Evil Village will be the first major game on the PS5, yet with a PS4 SKU, I don't think it's launch will surpass 50K
Best case scenario is the launch being flat compared to Resident Evil 7 but it's possible we see the franchise further decline and the launch being sub 200K across the two SKUs

sony gets crushed in japan, lol
Jimbo just caused a vicious cycle, lowered sale -> lowered fundings -> lowered attention -> sony = irrelevant in japan.

I still don't know who is buying the SWITCH and Animal Crossing, I still don't understand who doesn't already own the ever greens. It's insane. Who are these people. How many SWITCH consoles do they own?, our has has owned 3 in total.

Is the success of the SWITCH the genre of games, or the portability? transitioning to the mobile market.

This is insane.
Switch hasn't reached 3DS or DS levels yet so there's still room for growth. The main reasons for its success are:

1. Large number of very strong Nintendo franchises, both old and new
2. Flexibility to play games at home or on the go
3. Regular third party releases

The third step went better than I would have expected: I guess this is where the nVIDIA Terra helped. They have a lot less abstraction and thus higher performance ceiling than an Android device, some teams that found their niche becoming porting experts like Panic Button, and a GPU with good software tools available for it and a relatively modern feature set (GPU is not a monster but it is not an ancient design or it was when it was introduced).

I wonder if they can recapture the lighting with Switch 2 without having to commission a new or semi custom GPU design from nVIDIA (which would be costly... not seeing nVIDIA with another finished design that Nintendo can just take essentially unmodified) or switching GPU supplier. If nVIDIA had a Tegra successor or mobile friendly design it could be interesting as they could again trade resolution and other bits and pieces but give developers easy access to decently performing RT HW and similar feature set to what you can see in XSX or PS5 (at a much lower performance budget, not sure if Switch 2 will break the 4 TFLOPS barrier which would be amazing as that is what XSS manages so, maybe 2-3 TFLOPS?) to make ports easier.

I know it’s Minecraft, but you just know this rustles the jimmies of some of the people in this thread lol

there is no need to be upset GIF
Hopefully no one is upset by that. Minecraft is pretty popular in Japan so it's no surprise it's doing better than Call of Duty.

In Japan I don't think they have to worry too much. Most of Switch's and Switch 2's third party support will be built for the platform and then ported to PS4 / PS5 (if it's not exclusive).

Being able to receive downports from more powerful machines will be much more important to Nintendo's third party support in the West.

The comparison for Capcom at the end of the day will be very loop sided Monster Hunter Rise >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Resident Evil: Village
One is set to be one of the best selling games in the last decade while the other is going to get outsold by Sakuna & Olive Town. At the end of the day Capcom is a very pragmatic company and this year their support on the Switch is likely to net them huge explosive growth;
Monster Hunter Stories 2 a game that is also very likely to surpass 500K this year.

If the Resident Evil & Ace Attorney Switch game rumors/leaks are to be believed, I'm not far removed from thinking that the Switch game might be a return to form on their domestic market. A new Resident Evil Switch game definitely has the potential to sell over 500K in Japan and I definitely expect it to be confirmed in the next 9 months, overall the franchise has declined a lot in the last decade but I believe it can still be relevant in Japan on the Switch. Ace Attorney, is another franchise that could see growth on the Switch

Outside of these two franchises, Capcom also has Mega Man, Dragons Dogma, Devil May Cry & Street Fighter. After seeing Monster Hunter Rise pre-orders, I'm sure that Switch versions are green-lighted or in development unless Microsoft or Sony have secured exclusivity.

In 2021, it seems that Capcom won't have problems surpassing 5 million software sales, which would be their best results since 2013, when MH4 launched:
  1. [3DS] Monster Hunter 4 - 3.293.312
  2. [3DS] Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies - 353.211
  3. [PS3] Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen - 207.617
  4. [3DS] Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - 200.692
  5. [PS3] Resident Evil: Revelations - 188.851

Overall this would align them closer to Nintendo going forward especially if Rise ends up their best selling game overall.

Capcom support for Switch will be very strong in 2021 but I'm not sure about 2022 and beyond. I can't see the next Street Fighter or Dragon's Dogma being on Switch. Maybe that Power Stone reboot and the Mega Man games will be.

Good catch! Totally forgot about that one.

Capcom and Atlus are going in the right direction when it comes to Switch support, so far it looks like Bandai Namco is the only one going the wrong way.

PS5 restocks, january 24, for now

Yodobashi Hakata, Umeda, Kichijoji, Yokohama, Kawasaki
Insane it's like launch day line ups every time there's a restock. Hopefully they shipped more this week.
I think that basically from reading everyone in this thread wants Sony to completely fail in Japan so that Nintendo can have Japan all for itself.
Nah just the ninty fanboys who are still salty over the wii u and the fact Sony stole their bread. If PlayStation didn't exist Nintendo would be still making powerful home consoles like the n64 and gamecube.

They want ps5 to be like the wii u but it won't. In a few years it won't be discontinued and 7 years from now it will be healthy and still selling.

Capcom has adjusted their output for Switch really well with the upcoming games.

Bandai Namco and Square Enix, on the other hand, are going backward with their output after a good couple of years output on the system. Any logical minds would definitely increasing more quality content output when the market leader is at the peak of sales but instead they're doing the opposite after a new playstation hardware was released.

Capcom
Early years of Switch = Port of old games and nothing more than that.
Peak years of Switch = 3 monster hunter games(Rise, Rise G, and Stories 2), GnG remake, and RER3.

Capcom will be rewarded because they are making decision based on money 💰 instead of favoritism of certain platform.

Deja Vu!
I thought after a few images of PS5 restock a few days ago we could probably see a PS5 game on the chart but business as usual with Nintendo software domination and cod.

The quantities of ps5 restocks in yodobashi are low (same or worst for others retailers), between a few tens and a maximum of 400 units per store, that is not enough to really increase physical game sales and there is also the digital version ps5, need more ps5 restocks.

I have way more faith in Square than Banco. SE has BD2 coming next month plus TWEWY 2 in Summer. I'm expecting multiple DQ announcements this year alongside the anniversary and they should all be on Switch.

Not too surprised the PS5 is tanking in Japan.

The thing looks like it takes up a third of the Japanese Room. Even Microsoft made the XSS small in order to make it more appealing.

Nintendo certainly knew the Market well to sell such numbers.
Yep even MS made theirs appealing. That's why it's selling more then ps5! The ps5 is a beautiful beast and will do well in japan.

Azelover

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
You could spin this a thousand different ways, and Nintendo would still come out on top.

looks like it, they are trying to ruin the stock supply so they can scalp the fuck out of them in time for mohun. What a shame that i have already managed to snag a mario edition from the uk nintendo store to repolace my cracked old one so resellers on amazon can go suck it.
